parking aids will help you when parking and ma­
neuvering.

-Always look for traff ic and check the area
around your vehicle by looking at it direct ly
as well. The parking system cannot replace
the driver's attention . The driver is always
responsib le when entering or leaving a park­
ing space and during similar maneuvers.
- Please note that some surfaces, such as
clothing, are not detected by the system.
-
- Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
which people and objects cannot be detect­
ed . Be especially cautious of small children
and animals.
- The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the radiator gr ille, bumper,
wheel housing and the underbody . The park ­
i ng system may be impa ired as a result .
Have an authorized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Serv ice Facility check their func ­
t ion.
- Make su re the senso rs a re not obst ructed by
st ickers, depos its or othe r ma ter ia ls.
If they
are, the senso r funct io n could be impai red .

-Some objects are not detected or disp layed
by t he system under certain c ircumstances:
- objects such as barrier cha ins, tra iler draw
bars, vertical po les or fences
- objects above the sensors such as wall ex ­
tensions
- objects with certain surfaces or structures
such as cha in link fences or powder snow
- If you continue driving closer to a low ob­
ject, it may disappear from the sensor range . Note that you will no longer be
wa rned about th is obstacle.
- Keep enough distance from the curb to re­
duce the risk of damage to the rims .

-The system may provide a warning even
though there are no obstacles in the cover­
age area in some situations, such as :
- certain road surfaces or when there is tall grass
- externa l ultrasonic sources such as from
cleaning vehicles
- in heavy rain, snow, or th ick vehicle ex­
h a u st
- We recommend that you practice par king in
a traffic -free location or parking lot to be ­
come familiar with the system . When doing
this, there shou ld be good light and weath ­
er conditions.
- You can change the vo lume of the signa ls.
- What appea rs in the disp lay is slight ly de -
layed.
- Th e sensors m ust be kept clean and free of
snow and ice for the parking aid to operate .

Wheels and T ires
General information
~check your tires regularly for
damage (punctures, cuts, cracks
and bulges). Remove foreign ob ­
jects from the tire tread.
~ If driving over curbs or similar
obstacles, drive slowly and ap­ proach the curb at an angle.
~Have faulty tires or rims re­
placed immediately.
~ Protect your tires from oil,
grease and fuel.
~ Mark tires before removing
them so that the same running
direction can be maintained if
they are reinstalled.
~Lay tires flat when storing and
store them in a cool, dry location
with as little exposure to light as
possible.
_&. WARNING -
-Never drive faster than the maximum permitted speed
for your tires. This could cause
the tires to heat up too much.
This increases the risk of an
accident because it can cause
the tire to burst .
-Always adapt your driving to the road and traffic condi-

tions . Drive carefully and re­
duce your speed on icy or slip­
pery roads . Even winter tires
can lose traction on black ice.
(@ Note
-Please note that summer and
winter tires are designed for
the conditions that are typical
i n those seasons . Aud i recom­
mends using winter tires dur­
ing the winter months . Low
temperatures significantly de­
crease the elasticity of summ­
er tires, which affects traction
and braking ability. If summer
tires are used in very cold
temperatures, cracks can form
on the tread bars, resulting in
permanent tire damage that
can cause loud driving noise
and unbalanced tires.
-Burnished, polished or chromed rims must not be used in winter driving condi­
t ions. The surface of the r ims
does not have sufficient corro­
sion protection for this and
could be permanently dam ­
aged by road salt or similar
substances.

sure the tires are installed a ccord­
ing to the running direction indi­
cated on the tire sidewall

Hidden damage
Damage to tires and rims can of ­
ten occur in locations that are
hidden. Unusual vibrations in the
vehicle or pulling to one side may indicate that there is tire damage.
Reduce your speed immediately.
Check the tires for damage. If no
damage is visible from the out­
side, drive slowly and carefully to
the nearest authorized Audi deal­
er or authorized Audi Service Fa­
cility to have the vehicle inspect­
ed.

Tread that has worn too low or different tread depths on the
tires can reduce dr iving safety.
This can increase the risk of an
accident because it has a nega­
t ive effect on handling, driving
through curves, and braking,
and because it increases the
risk of hydroplaning when driv­
ing through deep puddles.

Steps for Determining Correct Load Limit
1. Locate the statement "THE
COMBINED WEIGHT OF OCCU­PANTS AND CARGO SHOULD
NEVER EXCEED XXX KG OR XXX
LBS" on your vehicle's placard
(tire inflation pressure label)

2. Determine the combined
weight of the driver and pas­
sengers that will be riding in
your vehicle.
3 . Subtract the combined weight
of the driver and passengers
from
"XXX " kilograms or "XXX"
pounds shown on the sticker

4. The resulting figure equals the
available amount of cargo and
luggage load capacity. For ex­
ample, if the
" XXX" amount
equals 1400 lbs and there will be five 150 lbs passengers in
your vehicle, the amount of available cargo and luggage load capacity is 650 lbs
(1400-750 (5
X 150) = 650 lbs)
5 . Determine the combined
weight of luggage and cargo
being loaded on the vehicle.

Winter tires
Winter tires significantly improve the vehicle 's
handling when driving in winter conditions. Be­
cause of their construction (width, compound,
tread pattern), summer tires provide less trac­
tion on ice and snow.
.. Use winter tires on all four wheels.
.. Only use winter tires that are approved for your
vehicle .

The effectiveness of winter tires is reduced great­
ly when the tread is worn down to a depth of
0 .1S7 in (4 mm) . The chara cteristics of winter
tires also decrease greatly as the tire ages, re­
gardless of the remaining tread .
@.l For the sake of the environment
Reinstall summer tires at the appropriate
time, because they provide better handling
when roads are free of snow and ice. Summer
tires cause less road noise, tire wear and fuel
consumption.

You can also use all season tires instead of
w inter tires . Please note that in some coun­
tries where w inter tire s are required, only
w int er tires with
the£ symbol may be per­
mitted.
Snow chains
Snow chains not only improve the driving in win­
ter road conditions, but also the braking.
Wheels
.. Only install snow chains on the front wheels.
This applies a lso to vehicles with all wheel
drive* .
.. Check and correct the seating of the snow
chains after driving a few feet, if necessary. Fol­
low the instructions from the manufacturer .
.. Note the maximum speed of 30 mph (SO km/
h) . Note the local regulations .
Use of snow chains is only permitted with certa in
rim/tire comb inat ions due to technical reasons .
Check with an author ized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Service Facility to see if you may use
snow chains .
You must remove the snow chains on roads with­
out snow . Otherwise, you could impair driving
ability and damage the tires .
.8, WARNING
Using incorrect snow chains or install ing snow
chains inc orrectly can resu lt in loss of veh icle
control, which increases the risk of an acci­
dent.
(W) Note
- Snow chains can damage the rims/wheel
covers* if the chains come into direct con­
tact with them. Remove the wheel covers*
first. Use coated snow chains.
- Using snow chains that add more than O.S3
in (13,S mm) of height can severe ly damage
the whee l housings and other vehicle com ­
ponents .

Low-profile tires
App lies to: vehicles wi th low- pro fil e tir es
Compared to other tire/rim combinations, low­
profile tires offer a wider tread surface and a
larger rim diameter with shorter tire sidewalls .
This results in an ag ile driving style . However, it
may reduce the level of comfort and increase
r oad noise when driving on roads in poor condi-
tion.

Wheels
Low -profile tires can become damaged more
quickly than standard tires when driving over large bumps, potholes, manhole covers, and
curbs. Therefore, it is particularly important to
maintain the correct tire pressure

To reduce the risk of damage to the tires and
rims, drive very carefully on poor roads.
Check your wheels regularly every 2,000 mi (3,000 km) for damage. For example, check for
bu lges/cracks on the tires or deformations/
cracks on the rims.
Afte r a heavy impact or damage, have the tires
and rims inspected or replaced immediate ly by
an authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility.
L ow -profile tires can wear o ut faster than stand­
ard tires.

Safety Requirements in addition to these grades.
Tread wear
The tread wear grade is a comparative rating
based on the wear rate of the tire when tested
under contro lled conditions on a specified gov ­
ernment test course.
F or examp le, a tire graded
150 would wear one
and one half
(1 1/2) times as well on the govern­
ment course as a tire graded
100.
The relative performance of tires depends upon
the actual conditions of their use, however, and may depart significant ly from the norm due to
variations in driving habits, service practices and differences in road characteristics and climate.

Traction
The traction grades , from highest to lowest , are
AA,
A, Band C. Those grades represent the tire's
ability to stop on wet pavement as measured un ­
der controlled conditions on specified govern­
ment test surfaces of asphalt and concrete. A tire
marked C may have poor traction performance

Temperature
The temperature grades are A (the highest), B,
and C, representing the tire's resistance to the
generat ion of heat and its ability to dissipate
heat when tested under controlled conditions on
a specified indoor laboratory test wheel.
Sustained high temperature can cause the mate­ rial of the tire to degenerate and reduce tire life,
and excessive temperature can lead to sudden
tire failure

The grade C corresponds to a level of perform­
ance which all passenger car tires must meet un­
der the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard

109 . Grades Band A represent higher levels
of performance on the laboratory test wheel than
the m inimum required by law.

The traction grad e assigned to this tire is
based on straight-ahead braking traction
tests, and does not include acceleration, cor­
nering, hydroplaning or peak traction charac­
teristics.

The temperature grade for this tire is estab ­
lished for a tire that is properly inflated and
not overloaded. Excessive speed, underinfla­
tion, or excessive loading, either separately or
in comb inat ion, can cause heat bu ildup and

The windsh ield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions such as wetness, dark­

When removing or installing the wheel, the
rim could hit the brake rotor and damage the
rotor. Work carefully and have a second per­
son help you.
(D Tips
- When mounting tires with unidirectional
tread design
make sure the tread pattern is
pointed the right way
¢ page 278.
-The wheel bolts should be clean and easy to
turn. Check for dirt and corrosion on the mating surfaces of both the wheel and the
hub. Remove all dirt from these surfaces be­
fore remounting the wheel.
Unidirectional tires
A unidirectional tire profile is identified by arrows
that point in the running direction on the tire
sidewall. You must always adhere to the speci­
fied running direction. This is necessary ensure
the tire 's optimum performance in regard to ad­
hesion, running noise, friction and hydroplaning .
To benefit fully from the advantages of the uni­
directional tire design, you should replace faulty
tires as soon as possible and restore the correct
running direction on all of the tires.
Finishing
.,. Reinstall the caps on the wheel bolts if neces­
sary .
.,. Store the vehicle tool kit in its designated
place .
.,. If the removed wheel does not fit in the spare
wheel well, store it securely in the luggage
compartment

- If you notice that the wheel bolts are cor­
roded and difficult to turn while changing a
tire, they should be replaced before you check the tightening torque.
- Drive at reduced speed until you have the
tightening torques checked.
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the information ¢ page 251 if you
are going to use a spare tire which is different
from the tires on your vehicle .
After you change a tire:
- Check the tire pressure on the spare immedi­
ately after installation.
- Have the wheel bolt tightening torque
checked with a torque wrench as soon as pos­
sible by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified service station.
- With steel and alloy wheel rims, the wheel
bolts are correctly tightened at a torque of
90
ft lbs (120 Nm).
- If you notice that the wheel bolts are corroded
and difficult to turn while changing a tire,
they should be replaced before you check the
tightening torque.
- Replace the flat tire with a new one and have
it installed on your vehicle as soon as possi­
ble. Remount the wheel cover .
Until then, drive with extra care and at reduced
speeds.
A WARNING
- If you are going to equip your vehicle with
tires or rims which differ from those which
were factory installed, then be sure to read
the information
¢page 251.
-Always make sure the damaged wheel or
even a flat tire and the jack and tool kit are
properly secured in the luggage compart­
ment and are not loose in the passenger
compartment.
- In an accident or sudden maneuver they
could fly forward, injuring anyone in the ve­
hicle.
