it approaches a stationary vehicle.

and it approaches a vehicle that is clearly trav ­
eling more slowly or a veh icle in your direction

When this warning occurs, it may only be possi ­
b le to avoid a collision by swerving or braking

If there is an impending collision with vehicles,
there will a lso be an
acute warning in the form of
sharp braking. If you do not react to the acute
warn ing, pre sense front can brake with increas ­
ing force within the limits of the system . T his re­
duces the vehicle speed in the event of a coll i­
sion .
Autom atic deceleration
Depending on the speed, pre sense front can de­
cel erate automatica lly
shortly before a collision:
-if there are stationary vehicles when you are
traveling at speeds up to approx imately 28
mph (45 km/h)
-if there are veh icles dr iv ing or stopped ahead
whe n you are traveling at speeds up to approxi­
mately 155 mph (250 km/h)
Autom atic bra king force inc rea se
If pre sense front determines that you are not
braking strongly enough when a co llision is imm i­
nent, it can inc rease the braking force, depending
on the situation and speed:
-if there are stationary vehicles when you are
traveling at speeds up to approx imately 50
mph (85 km/h)
-if the re are ve hicles driving or stopped ahead
when you are traveling at speeds up to approxi­
mately 155 mph (250 km/h)

Pre sense front cannot ove rcome the laws of
physics . It i s a system des igned to assist and

Assistance systems
Appl ies to: vehicles w ith Audi side assist
If you activate a turn signal when active lane as­
sist is ready and it classifies a lane change as crit­
ical because of vehicles traveling alongside you or
approaching you, there will be noticeable correc ­
tive steering shortly before you leave the lane.
This will attempt to keep your vehicle in the lane .
Applies to: veh icles without Audi s ide ass ist
The system will not warn you before crossing a
lane marker line if you have activated the turn
signal. In this case, it assumes that you are
changing lanes intentionally.
A WARNING
-The system warns the driver that the vehicle
is leaving the lane using corrective steering.
The driver is always responsible for keeping
the vehicle within the lane.
- The system can help you keep the vehicle in
the lane, but it does not drive by itself. Al­
ways keep your hands on the steering
wheel.
- Corrective steering may not occur in certain
situations, such as during heavy braking.
- There may be cases where the camera does not recognize all lane marker lines . Correc­
tive steering can only take place on the side of the vehicle where lane marker lines are
detected.
- Other road structures or objects could possi­
bly be identified unintentionally as lane
marker lines. As a result, corrective steering
may be unexpected or may not occur.
- The camera view can be restricted, for ex­
ample by vehicles driving ahead or by rain,
snow, heavy spray light shining into the
camera or by dirt on the window. This can
result in active lane assist not detecting the
lane marker lines or detecting them incor­
rectly.
- Under certain conditions such as ruts in the
road, an inclined roadway or crosswinds, the
corrective steering alone may not be enough
to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane.
- For safety reasons, active lane assist must
not be used when there are poor road and/
or weather conditions such as slippery

roads, fog, gravel, heavy rain, snow and the
potential for hydroplaning . Using active lane
assist under these conditions may increase
the risk of a crash .

-If the lanes are narrow or i f you are driving on
the edge of your lane. If this is the case, the
system may have detected a vehicle in another
lane that is
not adjacent to your current lane.
- If you are driving t hrough a curve. Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane over
from the adjacent lane .
- If side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or displaced guard rails).
- In poor weather conditions . The side assist
functions are limited.

- In some situat ions, the system may not
func tion or its f un ct io n may be lim ited. Fo r

- If vehicles are approach ing or being le ft
beh ind very quickly. The display may not
tur n on in t ime.
- In poor weather conditions s uch as heavy
rain, snow or heavy mist.
- On very wide lanes, in tight curves, or i f
there is a rise in the road su rface. Vehicles
in the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they are outs ide of the sensor
range.

adjustment will set the display to the minim um

no change when adjusting the br ightness, or the
change may only be noticeab le once the sur­
r ound ings change .
Adjust the br ightness to a leve l whe re the display
i n the information stage will not disrupt your
v iew ahead. If you change the br ightness, the dis­
play in the exterior mirror w ill br iefly show the
brightness leve l in the i nfo rmation stage . The
br ightness of the warn ing stage is linked to the
br ightness in the infor mation stage an d is adjus t-
ed a long w ith the info rm ation st age .

Activating rear cros s-traffic assist
The rear cross- traffic assist is ac tivated a utomat i­
cally if you t urn on the pa rking aid

shift into reverse gear.
The rea r cross- traffic assist can warn t he drive r of
a potential collis ion with approaching cross-traf­
f ic when driving in reverse at speeds up to ap­
proximately 7 mph ( 12 km/h). Within its limits,
the system monitors the areas behind and next
to the veh icle using the radar sensors when leav­
ing a parking space

verse.

alerts if your vehicle is pulled too far into
the parking space so that it is hidden by ad­
jacent vehicles.

about every type of approaching objects,
such as cyclists. Always monitor the t raff ic
as we ll as the vehicle's sur roundi ngs wit h di-
re ct eye contact .

Engine and automatic transmission
D epending on the mode, the eng ine and auto ­
mat ic transmission * respond more quickly or in a
more balanced manner to accelerator pedal
movements . In the sporty dynamic mode, the
transmission shifts at higher speed ranges.
Suspen sion control (Audi magnetic ride) *
The s uspension contro l uses sensors to reco rd in­
formation regarding steering movements, brak ­
ing and acce leration operations by the driver, as
well as information abo ut th e road s urface, driv ­
ing speed, and load. With Audi dr ive select you
can adjust the suspens ion control to sporty (dy­
namic), comfortable (comfort) or balanced (au­
to) .
Steering
T he steering adapts in terms of steering assis ­
tance. There are different modes
¢ page 142 .
Indirect steering that moves easily as in comfort
mode is especia lly su ited to long drives on a high ­
way . The dynam ic mode p rovides sporty, d irect
steer ing .
For vehicles w ith progressive steering* the steer­
in g performance is more ag ile .
Audi adapt ive light *
The i llumination on curves in adaptive light is
adapted to the se lected mode.
Audi adaptive cruise control*
The behav ior when a cce le ra ting can be adjus ted
from com fortab le to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode . Adaptive cr uise control a lso
r e sponds to the driving behavior of the ve hicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner.

- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the auto and
dynam ic modes.
A ss istance systems
- The "S " sele ctor leve r position au tomatically
engages if the dynamic mode is selected.

General information

Depending on your vehicle's equipment, various
parking aids will help you when parking and ma­
neuvering.
The
parking system plus assists you when park­
in g by aud ibly and visua lly indicating objects de­
tected
in front of and behind the veh icle
¢ page 143.
The rearview camera shows the area beh ind the
veh icle in the Infotainment system d isplay. The
l ines in the rearview camera image help you to
park or
maneuver ¢ page 145.
& WARNING
-Always look for traffic and check the area
around your vehicle by looking at it directly
as well. The parking system cannot replace
the driver's attent ion. The driver is always
responsible when enter ing or leaving a park­
ing space and during similar maneuvers.
-Please note that some surfaces, such as
clothing, are not detected by the system.
-Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
which people and objects cannot be detect­
ed . Be especially cautious of small children
and animals.
- Always pay attention to the area around the
vehicle -using the rearview mirror, too .
-The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the radiator gr ille, bumper,
wheel housing and the underbody . The park ­
ing system may be impa ired as a result.
Have an authorized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Serv ice Facility check their func­
tion.

-Some objects are not detected or displayed by the system under certain circumstances:
-objects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, vert ical poles or fences
-objects above the sensors such as wall ex ­
tensions
Parking aid
-objects with certain s urfaces or structures
such as chain link fences or powder snow
-If you continue driving closer to a low ob­
ject, it may disappear from the sensor
range . Note that you will no longer be
warned about th is obstacle.
-Keep enough distance from the curb to re­
duce the risk of damage to th e rims.
(I} Tips
-The system may provide a warning even
though there are no obstacles in the cover­
age area in some situations, such as:
-certa in road surfaces or when there is tall
grass
- external ultrasonic sources such as from clean ing vehicles
-in heavy rain, snow, or thick vehicle ex­
haust
-We recommend that you practice parking in
a traff ic -free location or parking lot to be ­
come fam iliar with the system . When doing
this , there shou ld be good light and weath­
er conditions .

Intelligent Technology Electronic Stabilization
Control (ESC)
Description
Elect ronic stabili zation control ( ESC) supports
driver safety. It red uces the risk of slipping and
improves dr iving stabi lity. ESC detects crit ica l sit­
uations such as the vehicle overstee ring and un­
dersteeri ng or the w heels are sp inning. The vehi­
cle is stabilized by app lying the brakes or reduc ­
i n g e ngine torque . When the ESC engages, the
G1 indicato r light bli nks in t he instr ument clus­
t er.
The fo llow ing systems are in tegrated in the ESC:
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
ABS p reve nts the whee ls from lock ing whe n brak ­
ing. The vehicle can st ill be steered even d uring
hard brak ing. Apply steady press ure to the bra ke
pedal. Do not pump the pedal. A puls ing in t he
b rake pedal indicates that the system is act ing to
s tabili ze the vehicle .
Brake assist system
The brake assist system can decrease brak ing dis­
tance . It inc reases brak ing power when the d river
presses the brake pedal q uick ly in eme rgency sit­
uations . You must press and hold t he b rake pedal
until the dangerous si tuatio n is ove r. In veh icles
w ith adapt ive c ruise con trol*, the bra ke assist
sys te m is more sensitive if t he di stan ce detec ted
t o the veh icle dr iv ing ahead is too small.
Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)
ASR reduces eng ine power when the drive wheels
beg in s pinning a nd adapts the force to the road
conditions . T his makes it easie r to sta rt, acceler­
a te and dr ive u p hill s.
Electronic differential lock (EDL)
The EDL applies the brakes to a whee l t h at starts
sp inning and transfe rs t he d rive power to t he
other d riving wheel or wh eels ( if the veh icle is
eq uipped w ith all whee l dr ive*) . T his func tion is
no t a vailable at hig her s pee ds .

In extreme cases, ED L automat ica lly swi tches off
to keep the b rake o n the bra ked whee l from over ­
h eating. The ve hicle is still wo rking co rrect ly. ED L
will switc h on again automatically when condi­
tions have returned to normal.
Power steering
The ESC can also support veh icle sta bility
th ro ugh stee ring .
Selective wheel torque control
Selective w heel to rque cont rol is used when driv­
in g on curves. The fron t whee l on the in side of
t h e curve or both whee ls on t he i nsid e of the
cu rve are braked se lective ly as needed. This al ­
l ows mo re precise driving in cu rves .
Automatic post-collision braking system
The "automat ic pos t-coll is io n braking syste m"
c a n help t o reduce t he risk of sliding and of addi ­
tion al collisions a fter an acc iden t. If the a irbag
contro l modu le detects a collision above a certa in
vehicle speed, the ve hicle is braked by the ESC.
The
ve hicle does not br ak e automatically if;
- t he dr ive r presses the acce lerato r pedal, or
- the ESC, the b ra ke system or the ve hicle elect ri-
cal sys tem are not func tioning .
A WARNING
-The ES C and i ts in tegra ted systems can not
over co m e the li mits im posed by n atural
p hy sical laws. T h is is es peci ally i mpo rtan t
