chi ld faces the back of the vehicle. These infant
seats support the baby's back, neck and head in a
crash

The airbag on the passenger side makes the front
seat a potentially dangerous p lace for a child to
ride . The front seat is not the safest place for a
child in a forward -facing child seat. It is a very
dangerous place for an infant or a larger child in
a rearward -facing seat .
A WARNING
Not using a ch ild safety seat, using the wrong
child safety seat o r improperly install ing a
child restra int increases the r is k of se rious
personal inju ry and death in a crash.
- Never install rear-facing chi ld safety seats
o r infant carr iers on the front passenger
seat -even with an Advanced A irb ag Sys­
tem . A child w ill be seriously injured and can
be ki lled when the inflating airbag hits the
child safety seat or infant carrier with great
force and smashes the child safety seat and
child against the backrest, center armrest,
door or roof c::> page 2 70, Child restraints on
the front seat -some important things to
know .
- Always install rear-facing child safety seats
or infant carr iers on the rear seat.
- Never install a rear-facing child restra int in
the forward-facing direct ion . Such restraints
are designed for the spec ial needs of infants
and very sma ll children and cannot protect
them properly if the seat is forward-fa cing.
- If you must install a rearward fac ing ch ild
sa fety seat on the front passenger seat be­
ca use of exception al circumst ances and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF,;; light does not
come on and stay on, immediate ly install
the rear-facing chi ld safety seat in a rear
seat ing pos ition and have the airbag system
inspected by your Audi dealer.
- Never place or use any electrical device
(such as a laptop, CD player, elect ronic
games dev ice, powe r inverter or seat heater
for child seats) on the front passenger seat

if the device is connected to the 12-volt
socket or the ciga rette lighte r socket.
- If a seat heater has been ret rofitted or oth­
erwise added to the front passenger seat, never install any child restra int system on
this seat.
- Make sure that there are no wet objects (such as a wet towel) and no water or other
liquids on the front passenger seat cush ion .
- Never p lace objects on the seat (such as a
laptop, CD p layer, electron ic games device,
power inverte r or seat heater for ch ild
seats). These may influence the elect rical
capacitance measu red by the capacitive pas­
senger detect ion system and can also fly

sonal injury .

head restraint again immediately once the
child seat is removed. Driving without head
restra ints or w ith head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk of
serious or fatal neck injury dramatically .

A WARNING
If exceptional circumstances require the use
o f a forward- facing child restra int on the
front passenger's seat, the child's safety and
well-being require that the following special
precaut ions be taken:
- Make s ure the forward-facing seat has been
designed and cert ified by its manufact urer
for use on a front seat with a passenger
front and side airbag.
- Always follow the manufacturer's instruc­ tions prov ided with the ch ild safety seat or
infant carrier.
- Always move the front passenger seat to the h ighest position in the up and down ad­
justment range and move it back to the
rearmost position in the seat's fore and aft
adjustment range, as fa r away from the air­
bag as possib le, before insta lling the for­
ward-facing child res tra int.
- Always make sure that the safety belt upper
anchorage is beh ind the child restrain t and
not next to or in front o f the child restrain t
so that the safety belt will be properly pos i­
tioned.
- Always make sure that nothing prevents the
front passenger's seat from being moved to
the rearmost position in its fore and aft ad­
justment range.
- Always make sure the backrest is in an up­
right position .
- Never place or use any electrical device (such as a laptop, CO player, elect ronic
games dev ice, power inverte r or seat heater
for child seats) on the front passenger seat

ge r seat and install it prope rly at one of the
rear seat positions if the

the ignition is switched on.

Bulbs
Replacing light bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your authorized Audi dealer replace any bulbs for
you.
I t is becoming increasing ly more and more diffi ­
cult to replace vehicle light bulbs since in many
cases, other parts of the car must first be re­ moved before you are able to get to the bulb.
This applies espec ially to the light bulbs in the
front of your car wh ich you can only reach
through the eng ine compartment.
Sheet metal and bulb ho lders can have sharp
edges that can cause ser ious cuts, parts must be
correctly taken apart and then properly put back
together to help prevent breakage of parts and long term damage from water that can enter
housings that have not been proper ly resea led.
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your author ized Audi dealer replace any bulbs for
you, s ince your dealer has the proper tools, the
correct bulbs and the expert ise.

Due to the high e lectrica l voltage, have the bulbs
rep laced by a qualified technician. Headlights
with Xenon light are identif ied by the high volt ­
age sticker.
LED h eadlights*
LE D headlights requ ire no maintenance. Please
contact your author ized Audi dealer if a bulb
needs to be rep laced.
& WARNING
Changing Xenon lamps without the necessary
equipment can cause serious personal injury.
- Bulbs are pressurized and can exp lode when
being changed. Potential risk of injury!
- On veh icles equipped with gas discharge
bulbs (Xenon light) life -threatening injuries
can result from improper handling of the high-vo ltage portions of such lamps!
- On ly your authorized A udi dealer or quali­
fied workshop shou ld change the bulbs in
gas discharge lamps. There are parts with
sharp edges on the openings and on the bulb holders that can cause serious cuts . If
you are uncerta in about what to do, have
the work performed by an authorized Audi
dea le r o r qualified workshop. Ser ious per­
sonal injury may result from improperly per­
formed work.

- If you still prefer to replace the light bulbs
yourself, be awa re that the engine compa rt­
ment is a hazardous area to work in ~ .&.
