Hill descent control
The hill descent control system assists the driver
when driving down hills .
Hill descent control activates when the transm is
s ion is in the "D" or "S" pos ition and you press the
brake pedal. The transmission automat ically se
lects a gear that is suitable for the hill. Hill de
sce nt cont rol tr ies to maintain the speed ach
i eved at the t ime of braking, w it hi n phys ical and
tec hnical lim itations . If may still be necessary to
adjust the speed wit h the brake peda l.
Hill descent cont rol sw itches off once the h ill lev
els out or you press the accelerator pedal.

Shifting manually (tiptronic mode)
The tiptronic mode allows the driver to shift the
gears manually .

You can shift into tiptronic mode while stationary
and while driv ing.
• To shift into tiptronic mode, push the selector
lever from the "D/S" position to the right . As
soon as the transmission switches over, the "M"
transm iss ion sett ing will appear i n the instru
ment cluster d isplay.
• To sh ift up a gear, tap the se lector lever for

• To engage the lowest gear, hold the 0 shift

• If you do not press a shift button within a short
time while in the "D/S" position, the transmis

lector lever to the right out of the "D/S" posi
tion .
• When you want to shift out of tiptronic mode ,
press and hold the
0 shift padd le for a longer
period of time or move the selector lever back
and release it.
T he transmission automatically shifts up or down
before cr itica l engine speed is reached .
T he transmission on ly allows manua l shifting
when the eng ine speed is w ith in the perm itted
range.
(D Tips
- If you shift to the next lowest gear, the
transmission will only shif t if the engine will
not be over-revved.
- With kick-down, the transmission shifts to a
lower gear, depending on vehicle speed and
eng ine speed .
- tiptronic does not work if the transmission
is runn ing in emergency mode .
Kick-down
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration .
When you press the accelerator pedal down be
yond the resista nce point, the automatic trans
mission downsh ifts into a lower gear and the en
gine ut il iz es its full power, depending on vehicle
speed and eng ine RPM.
It sh ifts up into the next
highe r gear once the maximum specified eng ine
RPM is reached .
A WARNING ~
Please note that the whee ls cou ld spin on
slick or slippery roads when kick-down is ac
tive.

matic transmission respond more quickly or in a
more balanced manner to accelerator pedal

You can change the driving mode when the vehi
cle is stationary or whi le driving. If traffic per
mits, after changing modes, briefly take your
foot off the accelerator pedal so that the recent ly

Offroad * or Lift/ Offroad* -activates offroad
functions to support driving on rough terrain .
The engine, transmission and steering adjust and
the Start/Stop system* switches off. Applies to
air suspension*: the vehicle also lifts for passing
over obstacles to maintain maximum ground
clearance.

Emergency call

An emergency call is a combination of data trans
mission and a phone call. The data transmission
from your vehicle forwards important informa tion, such as the vehicle and position data, to the
emergency call center .

The emergency call can be made two different
ways.

Manual emergency call
Requirement: the ignition must be switched on.
.,. Tap the cover(!) to open it.
.,. Press and hold the emergency call button until
the LED @blinks green. The emergency call is
made.
.,. If the emergency call button is pressed by mis
take, then press it again immediately until the
LED stays green. The emergency call is can
celed .
Automatic emergency call
The vehicle electrical system initiates an auto
matic emergency call under certain circumstan
ces, for example if an airbag deploys. The LED in
the emergency call button @blinks green . The
emergency call is made . This cannot be canceled.
Note the following LED conditions :
-Green -the emergency call function is availa
ble.
- Red -there is an e rror in the emergency call
function. Contact an authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility. No emergency
call can be made.
- Off-the emergency call function is not availa-
ble, perhaps because no network is available. .,..

Checking and Filling
If the indicator light does not turn off, drive im
mediately to an authorized Audi dea ler or author
ized Audi Service Fac ility to have the malfunction
corrected.
A WARNING
The temperature of the exhaust system is
high, both whe n driving and after stopping
the engine .
- Never touch the exhaust ta il pipes once they
have become hot. This could result in burns .
- Do not park you r vehicle over flammable
materials such as g rass or leaves because
the h igh temperat ure of the emiss ions con
t rol sys tem cou ld start a f ire.
- Do not apply underbody p rotectant in the
exha ust system a rea, because this increases
the risk of fire.
- Applies to: vehicles wi th diesel particulate
filte r: always adjus t your speed to the
weathe r, road, te rra in and traffic con ditio ns
dur ing diesel partic ulate fi lter regene ration.
Yo u should never disobey tra ffic laws in or
der to fo llow dr iv ing recommendations.

Applies to: ve hicles with diesel particulate filter
- Due to the high temperatures that occur
d uring diesel pa rticu late filter regenerat ion,
the radiator fan may continue runn ing after
the engine stops, even if the engine did not reach its operat ing temperatu re.
- Noises, odors and increased speeds may oc
cur d uring the regeneration.
- Always use the co rrect engine oil and fuel to
ens ure that the serv ice life of the d iesel par
ticulate filter is not reduced.

Accessory weight
means the combined weight (in
excess of those standard items
which may be replaced) of auto matic transmission, power steer
ing, power brakes, power win
dows, power seats, radio, and
heater, to the extent that these
items a re available as factory- in
stalled equipment (whether i n
stalled or not) .
Aspect ratio
means the ratio of the height to
the width of the tire in percent .
Numbers of 55 or lower indicate a
low s idewall for improved steer
ing response and better overall
handling on dry pavement.
Bead
means the part of the tire that is
made of steel wires, wrapped or
reinforced by ply cords and that is
shaped to fit the rim .
Bead separation
means a breakdown of the bond
between components in the bead .

Cold tire inflation pressure
means the tire pressure recom
mended by the vehicle manufac
turer for a tire of a designated
