Your veh icle is equipped with an automatic head­
light range control system that red uces g lare fo r
oncom ing traffic if the veh icle load c hanges . The

Lights and V ision
Audi adaptive light
Appl ies to: vehicles with adaptive light
Adaptive ligh t provides better visibili ty whe n it i s
dark by adapting the lights to the road conditions
based on speed , such as on e xpressways, rura l
roads, at intersections, and in c urves. The adap­
t ive light only functions when the light sw itch is
i n the AUTO position .
A WARNING
--Automatic headlights* are on ly intended to
assist the driver. They do not relieve the
driver of responsibil ity to check the head­
lights and to t urn t hem on manua lly based
on t he curren t ligh t and v is ibility condition s.
For examp le, fog canno t be detec ted by the
light sensors. So always switch on the low
beams under these weather co nditions and
when driv ing in the da rk
io .
- To prevent glare for traffic behind yo ur vehi ­
cle, the rear fog lights should only be turned
on in accordance with traff ic regulat ions.
- Always observe legal regulations when us­
ing the lighting systems desc ribed .
(D Tips
- The lig ht sensor for the automat ic he ad ­
lights * is in the rearview mir ror mount. Do
not p lace any st ickers in this area on the
windshield.
- A warning tone will sound if you open the door when the exte rior lights a re switched
on .
- Only t he front headlights turn on when t he
daytime running lights are switched on *. In
vehicles in certain markets, the tail lights
w ill also turn on .
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
head lights, turn signa ls and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature diffe rence
between the inside and outside . They will
clear shortly afte r swi tching them on . This
does not aff ect the service life of the light­
mg.

Starting to drive
Various conven ience and safety functions may be
ava ilable when t he vehicle begins dr iv ing, de­
pending on vehicle eq uipment.
Starting on hills with the parking brake set
Requirement: the doors must be closed and the
driver's safety belt must be fastened .
~ To start driving comfortably when on a hill, set
the parking brake and begin dr iving as usual.
The braking force of the parking brake does not
release automatically u ntil the wheels build up
enough dr iv ing fo rce .
St arting on hills with hill hold a ssist
Hill hold ass ist makes it eas ier to start on hills.
Requirement: the driver's door must be closed
and the engine must be r unning .
~ To activate hill hold assist, press a nd hold the
brake peda l for seve ral seconds. The ve hicle
must be in an up hill direction of travel.
Afte r releasing the bra ke pedal, the bra king pow­

Driving
A WARNING

-If you do not beg in driving immed iate ly or
the engine stalls afte r releasing the brake

ward. Press the brake pedal or set the park­
i n g br ake immedia tely.
- The intelligent technology of h ill hold assist
can not ove rcome the limitat io ns imposed by
n atural physical laws. The increased comfort
offe red by hill ho ld assist should not cause
you to ta ke safety risks .
- Hi ll hold ass ist canno t hold the vehi cle in
p lace on all hills (for examp le, if the ground
is s lippery or icy).
- T o re duce the r is k of an accident, alw ays
make su re the ve hicle is situated safe ly
while stationary .
Offroad driving
General information
The electronic stab il izat io n control (ESC) func­
tions were enhanced for driving offroad . Offroad
mode can be activated when driv ing in situa tions
whe re s lippage o r a d iffe ren tial lock f unct ion is
ne cessary
r:=>page 143. The hill desce nt assist is
also availab le, w hic h automatically brakes the ve ­
hicle and maintains a constant speed as a res ult
r:=> page 144. In addition, your A udi provides con­
t inuous all wheel dr ive.
However, yo ur Audi is not a purely offroad vehi ­
cle . Yo ur vehicle was not designed to drive under
extreme operating conditions s uch as driv ing in
an expedit ion style.
Onl y drive in terrain that is su itable fo r the vehi­
cle and you r dri ving ability. Never take any un­
ne cessa ry risks!
Befor e driving offroad
-Check the engine o il leve l, the tire p ressure, the
coo lant level and t he fluid leve l in t he washer
fluid reservoir .
- Sto re pieces of luggage and other objects in the
luggage compartment and secure them from
sliding out of place. .,.

start driving, set the parking brake when stop ­
ping on steep hills¢

and your vehicle will begin to move when the
doors are closed, the driver's safety belt is fas ­
tened, and you accelerate as usual.

ate ly, even if the parking brake is set .

Hill descent control
The hill descent control system assists the driver
when driving down hills .
Hill descent control activates when the transm is­
s ion is in the "D" or "S" pos ition and you press the
brake pedal. The transmission automat ically se ­
lects a gear that is suitable for the hill. Hill de­
sce nt cont rol tr ies to maintain the speed ach­
i eved at the t ime of braking, w it hi n phys ical and
tec hnical lim itations . If may still be necessary to
adjust the speed wit h the brake peda l.
Hill descent cont rol sw itches off once the h ill lev­
els out or you press the accelerator pedal.
When operating the cru ise control system*

page 95 , hill descent control is also activated
whe n the speed is set.

Hill desce nt co ntro l cannot ove rcome physical
lim itat ions, so it may not be ab le to m ainta in
a constant speed under all conditions. A lways

Trail er to wing
If you have to drive th rough diffic ult road condi­
tions, you can raise the vehicle again after hitch ­
ing the trai ler or after adjust ing the tongue
weight .

-Changes in temperature or load can affect
the he ight of the vehicle.
- Set the a ir suspension to the standard vehi­
cle heig ht, otherwise the applicab le tongue
weig ht no longer applies to your vehicle .

trailer is loaded.
- We recommend also having the vehicle in­ spected between the inspection intervals if
you are towing a trai ler frequently.
- Avo id driving wit h a trailer du ring the vehi­

Driving with a trailer
Driving with a trailer requires extra caution.
Speed
Adhere to the legal speed l imi ts. Follow t he lega l
regulations specif ic to the country.
As the speed inc reases, the d riving stability of
the t railer dec reases . The refore you sho uld not
exceed t he max imum legal speed limit when
there are unfavorable road, weather and/or wind
conditions. This especially applies when driving
downhill.
You must a lways reduce yo ur speed as soon as
you not ice even the s lightest swinging motion of
the trailer . Never try to "straighten out" the trail ­
er by accelerating.
The weig ht dis trib ution is very poo r if t he ve hicle
is empty and the trailer is loaded. However if you
must drive under these circumstances, t hen drive
especia lly slowly.

sion when opening the door . Within the limits of
the system, the system monitors the areas be­

The exit warning system is subject to limita­
tions and cannot warn you before every im­
pending coll is ion:
- If the veh icle is too wide for the parking
space and covered by the neighboring
veh icles.
- Approaching objects or peop le such as cy­
clists or skateboarders may not be detected
under certain circumstances.
- The system does not react to stat ionary ob­
jects.
- The view of the radar sensors may be im­
paired by leaves, snow, heavy spray or dirt .

cure a ny cargo that you are transpo rting to
reduce the r is k of damage or inju ry.
- Automatic braking cannot be triggered

Night vision assist
Description
Applies to: vehicles with night vision assist
The night vision assist can detect, highlight and,
if necessary, warn about pedestrians and large
wild animals.
N ight vision assist he lps yo u when it is dark by
u sing an infra red camera to mon itor the area in
front of your ve hicle, w ith in the limits of the sys­
tem . It ca n disp lay objects up to a distance of ap­
prox ima tely 1 000 feet (300 m). The thermal im ­
age de te cte d by t he came ra is show n in t he in ­
str ument cluster disp lay . Wa rm areas appear
li ghter and co ld areas a ppear da rker.
