A WARNING
If the glass on an automatic dimming mirror
breaks, electrolyte can leak out. This liquid
can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory sys ­
tem . If there is contact with the flu id, flush
immediately with plenty of wate r. Consult a
physician if necessary.
- Repeated or long-term exposure to electro­
lyte fluid can lead to irritation of the air­
ways, especially in people with asthma or
other respiratory conditions. Take deep
breaths immediate ly after leaving the veh i­
cle or, if this is not possible, open all of the
doors and windows as wide as possible.
- If electrolyte fluid enters the eyes, flush
them thoroughly with a large amount of
clean water for at least 15 minutes and then
seek medical attention.
- If electrolyte f luid comes into contact with
the skin, flush the affected area with clean
water for at least 15 minutes and then clean
with soap and water and seek med ical at­
tent ion . Clean affected cloth ing and shoes
thoroughly before wear ing again .
- If the fluid was swallowed and the person is
conscious, fl ush the mouth with water for at
least 15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting
unless this is recommended by medical pro­
fessionals. Seek medical attention immedi­
ately .

If the glass on an automatic dimming mirror
breaks, e lectrolyte can leak out . This liquid
damages plastic surfaces and paint. Clean
this liquid as quickly as possible, for example
with a wet sponge.
Lights and Vision

-If the light reaching the rearview mirror is
obstructed, the automatic dimming mirror
will not function correctly,
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not dim
when the interior lighting is turned on or
the reverse gear is se lected.

If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the roof,
you must observe the following:
-Only a specia lly designed roof ra ck may be used
o n your veh icle. These roof racks are the basis
for a complete roof rack system. Additional at ­
tachments/carrier systems are necessary to
transport luggage and sports equipment. We
recommend roof racks and attachments from
the Audi Genu ine Accessor ies program.
-When installing the roof rack, make sure that it
is mounted only at the designated points on
the roof
i:> fig. 64 .
-Note the perm itted axle load, permitted total
weight, and permitted roof load of your vehicle
<=> page 246. The roof load is the tota l of the
weight of t he roof rack, the attachments and
the cargo you are carrying. However, you must
also note the permitted load of the carrier sys­
tem being used .

I SYNC I Synchronization
When synchronization is switched on, the set­
tings for the dr ive r's side are appl ied to the front
p a ssenger's s ide (except for se at heating/ventila­
tion*) . The settings in t he rear are a lso synchron ­
ized. Synchronization switches off when the set ­
tings are adj usted individually for the front pas ­
senger 's side or for the rear.
You can sync hronize the settings in a row by
p ressing and holding a contro l. For example, to
app ly the settings for the front passenger 's side
to the driver's side, press and ho ld the contro l on
the front passenger's side. The same applies to
the rear .
Residual heat *
With the ignition turned off, yo u can activate the
residual heat function by pressing the

used to heat the vehicle interior. The residual
heat function switches off automatically after
about 30 m inutes .
Air vents
You can open or close the center and rear vents in
the cockpit and the vents in the rear center con ­
sole and door p illars using the r idged thumb­
wheels . The levers adjust the direct ion of the a ir­
flow from the vents .

Basic settings
The climate control system basic settings are ac­
cessed in the Infotainment system.

Rear seat settings *
When this function is se lected, all settings for
the rear can be adjusted through the climate con­
trol system in the cockp it . T he climate control
system settings cannot be ad justed in the rear
seat at the same time. This f unct io n sw itches off
after a ce rtain per iod of t ime o r whe n one of t he
con tro ls in t he coc kp it is pressed.
Automatic recirculation*
The sensitivity level of t he automatic recircula­
tion mode can be set at various levels from
Off to
Sen sitive . Recircul at io n mode is cont ro lled auto­
matically. If the w indows fog up, p ress t he
l F RON T! button.
Footwell temperature*
You can adjust the footwell temperature so that
i t is cooler or wa rme r.

Driving
When not being used, a roof rack should be re­moved to decrease the wind resistance of the ve­
hicle. You will save approximately 12% of your
fuel when at speeds from 62- 7 5 mph
(100-120 km/h) .
Save energy
The engine drives the generator, which generates
electricity ; the fuel consumption also increases
with the demand for electricity. Therefore, switch electrical equipment off when you no longer
need it. Examples of equipment that uses a lot of
energy are air blowers at a high setting, the rear
window defogger and seat heating* .
@ Note
Do not leave engine idling unattended after
starting. If warning lights should come on to
ind icate improper operation, they would go
unheeded. Extended idling also produces
heat, which could result in overheating or
other damage to the vehicle or other proper-
ty.
@ Note
- Have your vehicle maintained properly and
in accordance with the service recommenda­
tions in your Warranty
& Maintenance book­
let. Lack of proper maintenance as well as
improper use of the vehicle will impair the
function of the emission control system and
could lead to damage.
- Do not alter or remove any component of
the Emission Control System unless ap­ proved by the manufacturer .
- Do not alter or remove any device , such as
heat shields, switches, ignition wires,
valves, which are designed to protect your
vehicle's Emission Control System and other important vehicle components .
@ Tips
The consumption estimates as published by
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) and Transport Canada may not corre­
spond to your actual consumption on the
road, which will vary depending upon vehicle

Steering
Manual steering wheel position adjustment
Applies to: vehicles with manual steering wheel adjustment
The steering wheel posi tion is adjustable up and
down and forward and back .

Improper use of steering wheel adjustment

-Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is a minimum of 10 in (25 cm)
between your chest and the steering wheel
~page 126, fig. 138. If you cannot main­
tain this minimum distance, the airbag sys­
tem cannot protect you properly .
- If physical limitations prevent you from sit­
ting 10 in (25 cm) or more from the steer­
ing wheel, check with your authorized Audi
dealer to see if adaptive equipment is avail-
able.

Trail er to wing

them so you have a sufficient visibility behind
you .
Exterior lighting
Follow the lega l regulat ions regard ing the light ­
ing eq uipment on your trailer . Conta ct an author ­
ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facili­
ty for more information.
Before start ing to drive, check a ll l ight ing equip­
men t on the hitc hed trailer.
The headlig ht range contro l adjusts automatical­
ly to the light range of the headl ights.
Safe ty chain s
Make su re the safety chains are correctly applied
when pulling a trailer . The chains should hang
enough so t hat the trailer can dr ive around
curves. However, they must not touch the
g round .
Air su spension
Applies to: vehicles with air suspension
The air suspension must be at the standard vehi­
cle height before you set the tongue weight on
the trailer a nd h itch the trailer ¢@ ,
¢page 106,
Raising/lowering the vehicle .
For ve hicles w ith a factory-installed tra iler hitch,
the air suspension trailer mode will automat ically
sw itch on if you connect the trailer cable to the
socket.
F or ve hicles w ith a retro fitted trailer hitch, you
must switch on the air suspension trailer mode
manually . Select in the Infota inment system:

Switch it off again after tow ing a tra ile r.
You can also switch off tra iler mode ma nually

ing the t rai ler or after adjust ing the tongue
weight .

Driving with a trailer
Driving with a trailer requires extra caution.
Sp eed
Adhere to t he lega l speed lim its . Fo llow the legal
regu lat ions
sp ecific to the country.
As the speed increases, the dr iv ing stab il ity of
t h e tra ile r decreases. Therefore you should not
exceed the max imum lega l speed lim it w hen
t h ere are unfavorab le road, weather and/or wind
conditions. This especia lly applies when driving
downh ill.
Yo u m ust always red uce your speed as soon as
you notice even the slightest swinging motion o f
the trai ler . Never try to "straight en out" the trai l­
er by acce lerating.
The we ight d istr ibution is very poor if the vehicle
is empty and the trai ler is loaded. However if you
must drive under these circumstances, then drive
especially slowly .
Brakes
B rake in a time ly manner. Downs hift befo re dr iv ­
i ng down hill so that the engine can assist with
braking ¢&. .
When using a trailer w it h over run bra kes, fi rst
bra ke gently t hen q uick ly. This red uces the r isk of
j erking while braking if the trailer wheels lock up .

If
you s low ly pass a vehi cle that s ide assist has
de tected (the difference in speed between t he
vehicle and you r vehicle is less than 9 mph ( 15
km/h)), the display in the exterior mi rror turns
on as soon as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
T he display w ill not turn on if you quickly pass a
vehicle th at s ide ass ist has de te cted (the differ­
ence in speed is greater than 9 mph (15 km/ h)) .
Functional limitations
The radar sensors are des igned to detect the left
and right adjacent lanes when the road lanes are
t h e norma l width. In some si tua tions, the display
in the exterior m irror may turn on even though
there is no veh icle located in the area that is criti­
ca l for a lane change. For example:
- I f the lanes are na rrow or if you a re dr iving on
the edge o f you r lane . If t his is the case, the
system may have detected a vehicle i n another
lane that is
not adjacent to your current lane.
- If you are driving through a curve . Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane over
from the ad jacent lane .
- If side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or disp laced guard rai ls).
- In poor weather conditions. The side assist
functions are limited .

responds to the driving behavior of the ve hicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner.

The engine sound adapts to the cur rent mode

height of the vehicle (ground clearance) can
change once it is pa rked due to tempe rature

-When transport ing the veh icle on a car car­
r ier, tra in, sh ip or by other means, only t ie
the veh icle dow n at the runni ng surface of
t h e tires, wh ich is the outer circ umference .
Secur ing the ve hicle at t he a xle co mpo­
nen ts, suspe nsio n str uts or tow ing eyes is
not permi tted be cause the p ress ure in the
air sus pension str uts can change during
transport. The vehicle may not be secured
sufficiently if this happens .
Adjusting the Individual mode

-In some models, the maximum ve hicle
speed can only be reached in t he auto and
dynamic modes.
-T he S selector lever position automatica lly
engages if the dynamic mode is selected.
- Applies to: vehicles with dynamic steering:

Selecting the driving mode

You can change the driv ing mode when the veh i­
cle is stationary or while driving . If traff ic per­
mits , afte r changing modes, briefly take your

Comfort -provides a comfort-or iented vehicle
setup a nd is s uited fo r long d rives o n highways .
Auto -provides an ove rall comfortab le yet dy­
nam ic dr iving feel and is suited for everyday use .
Dynamic -gives the driver a sporty driving fee l
and is suited to a sporty driving style .
