@ Note
-The high-voltage system can be damaged if
the vehicle underbody comes into contact
with the ground . Immediately drive your ve

have it inspected.
- The electric drive motor can become very
hot during operation . Do not stop the vehi

Special considerations for the high-voltage
battery
Applies to: vehicles with plug-in hybrid drive
Please first read and note the introductory infor
mation and heed the warnings
¢page 92.
All batteries age with use and over time. There
are things you should know about the care of the
high voltage battery that will help it keep giving
you good service and reliability over time. Please
read and keep the following information in mind
while you enjoy the performance and economy of
your vehicle.
- Be sure to charge the high voltage battery be
fore leaving the vehicle parked and unused for a longer period of time. Ideally the high-voltage
battery should have a charge level between
40 % and 60 % when parked for a long t ime .
- If the battery charge level is below 3 %, never
park the vehicle for more than 21 days without
charging the high-voltage battery. Should you
have to park the vehicle for a long time, make
sure that the charge level is sufficient to help
prevent the battery from aging prematurely.
- Frequent and consecutive charging of the high
voltage battery when the charge level is above
e-tron
98 % can also decrease the capacity of the
high-voltage battery. Make sure the charge lev
el is be low 98 % when you start the charging
process.
- Should the vehicle be parked for longer than
2 days at temperatures below -13 °F ( -25 °C),
the high-voltage battery could free ze and not
be able to provide energy to the electric motor.
The battery will start working again, once it
warms up . The battery can be warmed up when
the outside temperature rises or when the vehi
cle is garaged appropriately. The battery will al
so warm up when being used (sw itching on the
air conditioner, the heater or by driving the ve
hicle) . Should you have to park your vehicle at
very low temperatures for longer than 1 day,
make sure that the high-voltage battery does
not freeze by parking the vehicle in a garage
that is heated or protected from the outside
temperature.
- The high-voltage battery can be damaged and
the capacity can be decreased when the vehicle
is parked for longer than 24 hours when the
ambient temperature is higher than 118 °F
(48 °C). Always make sure that the h igh-volt
age battery is not exposed to temperatures
above 118 °F (48 °C) for a long time.
- Never park the veh icle in areas that are lik ely to
be flooded, such as beaches or river banks, and
never drive the vehicle in WA TER, on flooded
roads or through water that is higher than the
bottom of the vehicle body. The high-voltage
battery, along with other vehicle components,
can be damaged severely if the high-voltage battery is exposed to open water especially for
a longer time. However, you can drive through
water on roads under certain conditions
~ page 72.
Failure to heed any of these requirements can
age the battery prematurely and lead to a perma
nent decrease of the high-vo ltage battery's ca
pacity.
(D Tips
Always make sure that the high-voltage bat
tery is not exposed to extremely low and high
temperatures as well as to water espec ially
for a longer time. Failure to protect and care

(D If the engine oil leve l is just before the
mark ing
(D , then engine oil must be added .
See¢@.
@ Do not add engine oil.
(D Note
- T he engine o il level must not be below the
ma rking
(D , because this increases the risk
of engine damage.
- After add ing engine oil, the oil leve l must
not be above the marking @, because this
increases the risk of catalytic converter and/
or engine damage . Do not start the engine .
Contact an authorized Audi dealer or au
thorized Audi Service Facility to have excess eng ine oil extracted if necessary .
(D Tips
- The engine oil consumption may be up to
0.5 quart/600 miles (0.5 liter/1,000 km),
depending on driving style and operating
conditions. Consumpt io n may be h igher
dur ing the fi rst 3,000 mi les (5,000 km) . Be
c ause of this , the eng ine o il level must be
che cked regularly.
It is best to check each
t ime you refuel your vehicle and before long
drives .
- In order to prov ide effective l ubrication and
cooling of interna l engine components, a ll
internal combustion engines consume a cer
tain amount of oil. O il consumption varies
from engine to engine and may change sig nificantly over the life of the engine. Typi
cally, eng ines with a specif ied break-in peri
od consume more oil during the break-in pe
riod than they consume after o il consump
t ion has stabilized .
- Under normal condit ions, the rate of oil
cons umption depends on t he quality and
viscosity of the oil, the RPM (revo lutions per
mi nute) at which the engine is ope rated, the
ambien t temperature and road conditions .
Further factors are the amount of oi l dilu
tion from water condensation or fuel resi due and the oxidation level of the oil. As any
eng ine is subject to wear as m ileage builds
Ii>-
u. 00 .-< N l' N .-< 0 N > 00
up, the oil consumption may increase over
time unti l replacement of worn components
may become necessary .
- With a ll these variab les coming into p lay,
no standard rate of oil consumption can be
estab lished or specified. There is no alterna
tive to checking the o il level regu larly and
frequently.
- If you have the impression your engine con
sumes excessive amounts of oil, we recom mend that you consult an authorized Aud i
dealer to have the cause of your concern properly d iagnosed . Keep in mind that the
accu rate measurement of oil consumption
r equ ires gre at ca re and may take some
time. An a uthorized Audi dea ler has instruc
tions about how to measure oil consump
tion acc urately.

Check ing and F illing
Changing the engine oil
We recommend that have your oil changed by an
authorized Audi dealer or a qualified service sta tion.
Before you check anyth ing in the eng ine compart

a lw ays re ad and h eed all WARNING S c> .&
in Working in the engine compartment on
page 318.
The engine oil must be changed accord ing to the
intervals specif ied in your Warranty
& Mainte
nance booklet. This is very impo rtant because the
lubricat ing p ropert ies of o il d iminish gradually
du ring normal vehicle use.
Under some c ircumstances the eng ine o il should
be changed more frequently . Change oil more of
ten if you d rive most ly short distances, ope rate
the vehicle in dusty areas or under predominant ly

change the oil more often than recommended.
Because of the prob lem of p roper d isposa l, along

your oil changed by an authorized
Audi dealer or
a qualified service station .
If you choo se to change your oil your self , please
note the fo llowing important information:
A WARNING
T o red uce the risk of personal injury if you
must c hange the engine oil in your veh icle
yourself:
- Wear eye protection .
-To reduce the risk of bu rns from ho t engine
oi l, let the engine cool down to the touch .
-
-When removing the o il drain pl ug with you r
fingers, stay as far away as possible . A lways
keep your forearm paralle l to the ground to
help prevent hot oi l from running down your
arm.
324
- Drain the oil into a container designed for
this purpose, one large enough to hold at
least the tota l amount of oil in your engine.
- Engine oil is poisonous. Keep it well out of
the reach of children.
- Continuous contact with used engine oi l is
harmf ul to your skin. Always protect your
skin by washing oil off thoroughly with soap
and water .
@ Note
Never mix oil additives with your engine oil.
These additives can damage your engine and
adverse ly affect your Audi Limited New Vehi

{® For the sake of the environment
- Before chang ing your oi l, first make sure
you know where you can properly dispose of
the used oil.
- Always dispose of used eng ine o il properly.
Do not dump it on garden so il, wooded
areas, into open streams or down sewage
