Indicator symbols in the instrumentpanel
The indicator symbols alert the driver when cer-tain functions are activated, that a system isactively working or that a fault may have occur-red in a system or function.
SymbolExplanation
Information, see the text mes-sage in the instrument panel
The information symbol illuminatesin combination with a text mes-sage if one of the vehicle's sys-tems requires the driver's atten-tion. The information symbol canalso illuminate in combination withother symbols.

ABS brake system
This symbol indicates a possiblefault in the ABS braking function.The vehicle's normal brakes willstill function but without ABSbrake modulation.

Parking brake/Auto-brake
This function keeps the vehicle ata standstill after it has stopped.The symbol is on when the func-tion is activated and the brakes orparking brake are being used.
Tire pressure system
The symbol illuminates to indicatelow tire pressure or a fault in thetire pressure system.
Malfunction indicator light(check engine light)
This symbol will illuminate if thereis a fault in the emissions controlsystem. If this happens, pleasehave your vehicle checked by atrained and qualified Volvo servicetechnician as soon as possible.

Left/right turn signals
Both turn signal indicators willflash when the hazard warningflashers are being used.
Forward lights
Active Bending Lights (ABL)
This symbol will illuminate if thereis a fault in the ABL system or ifany other fault is detected in theheadlight system.
Automatic/active high beamson
The symbol will be blue when theautomatic high beams are on.
Automatic/active high beamsoffThe symbol will be white whenthe automatic high beams are off.
High beam indicator
The symbol will illuminate whenthe high beams are on or whenhigh beam flash is being used.
SymbolExplanation
Automatic/active high beamson
The symbol will be blue when theautomatic high beams are on. Theparking lights will also be on.
Automatic/active high beamsoff
The symbol will be white when theautomatic high beams are off. Theparking lights will be on.
High beams on
The high beams and parking lightswill be on.
Not in use
Rear fog lights
The symbol illuminates when therear fog lights are on.
Rain sensor
The symbol illuminates when therain sensor is on.

PreconditioningC
The symbol illuminates when theengine/cabin heater/air condition-ing are preconditioning the vehi-cle.
Stability system
This symbol flashes when the sta-bility system is actively working tostabilize the vehicle. If the symbolglows steadily, there is a fault inthe system.
Stability system, sport mode
This symbol illuminates whenSport mode is activated. Sportmode offers more active drivingcharacteristics by monitoringmovement of the acceleratorpedal, steering wheel and corner-ing by allowing more lateral move-ment of the rear wheels beforethe stability system is activated.

Power utilized by the driver
The indicator shows the amount of power utilized(requested) by the driver through pressure on theaccelerator pedal. The higher the reading on thescale, the greater the amount of power utilized inthe current gear. The mark between the "light-ning" and "drop" symbols is the point at whichthe electric motor switches off and the gasolineengine starts.
Examples
The vehicle has started but is stationary and nopower is being utilized.
The electric motor alone cannot provide thepower requested and the gasoline engine willstart.
The vehicle is generating current to recharge thebattery, e.g., during moderate braking or duringengine braking on a downslope.
The "Hold" and "Charge" functions
The "Hold" or "Charge" function is activated,
which is shown by the symbol near the bat-tery indicator. See also the article "Maintaining/increasing hybrid battery charge while driving" foradditional information.

Warning symbols in the instrumentpanel
The warning symbols alert the driver that animportant function is activated or that a seriousfault has occurred.
SymbolMeaning
Warning
The red warning symbol alerts thedriver that an important function isactivated or that a serious faulthas occurred that may affect thevehicle's drivability. The warningsymbol can also illuminate in com-bination with other symbols.
Seat belt reminder
This symbol will flash for approxi-mately 6 seconds if the driver orfront seat passenger has not fas-tened his or her seat belt or if any-one in the rear seat has unbuck-led a seat belt.

Airbags
If this light remains on after thevehicle has been started or comeson while the vehicle is beingdriven, a fault has been detectedin one of the vehicle's safety sys-tems. See the message in theinstrument panel. Have the sys-tem(s) inspected by a trained andqualified Volvo service technicianas soon as possible.

The lighting ring on the left-side steering wheellever can be used to activate the vehicle's exte-rior lighting.

Active High Beams On/Off
AThe parking lights will be on in this position, even if the ignitionis switched off. NOTE

Illumination of the display and instrument lightswill vary, depending on ignition mode.
The display lighting is automatically subdued indarkness and the sensitivity is set with the thumbwheel.

Parking lights
Turn the parking lights on by turning the lightingring on the left-side steering wheel lever.
Lighting ring in the parking light position
Turn the lighting ring to the position (thelicense plate lighting comes on at the sametime).
Canadian models: If the ignition is in position IIor the engine is running, the daytime runninglights will illuminate instead of the front parkinglights.
With the lighting ring in this position, the parkinglights will remain on even when the ignition isswitched off.
In dark conditions, the rear parking lights alsoilluminate when the tailgate is opened to alertanyone traveling behind your vehicle. This hap-
pens regardless of the position that the lightingring is in or which mode the ignition is in.

Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
The car monitors ambient lighting conditions.
With the ring on the left-side steering wheel
lever in the position and the ignition inmode II (or the engine running), the lights toggleautomatically between DRL and low beam head-lights.
Ring in the AUTO position.
NOTE
Volvo recommends the use of Daytime Run-ning Lights in the United States. The use ofthese lights is mandatory in Canada.
With the lighting ring in the 0 position:
•In the US: DRL will be off
•In Canada: DRL will be on

With the lighting ring in the 8 positionand the ignition in mode II or if the engine isrunning:
•In the US: DRL will be off
•In Canada: DRL will be on
With the lighting ring in the position:
•DRL will be on (the low beam headlights willautomatically switch on in dark conditions)
US models only: DRL can be deactivated in thecenter display's Settings view.
With selected, a tunnel detection functionactivates the low beams when the vehicle entersa tunnel.
With the lighting ring in the position:
•DRL will be off and the low beam headlightswill be on
Low beam headlights
The low beam headlights can be activated inseveral ways.
Lighting ring
In dark conditions, the low beams will be acti-vated automatically when the engine is started orthe ignition is in mode II and the lighting ring is
turned to the position.
With the lighting ring in the position, thelow beams will also be activated if:
•the front fog lights are activated
•the rear fog lights are activated
•both the front and rear fog lights are acti-vated
If the lighting ring is turned to , the lowbeams will be activated automatically when the
engine is started or the ignition is in mode II,regardless of the ambient lighting conditions.
