Opening/closing/directing air vents
Some of the passenger compartment air ventscan be open/closed/directed individually.
Direct the dashboard and door pillar outer airvents toward the side windows to defrost.
Direct the vents into the passenger compartmentto help maintain a comfortable temperature inwarm weather.

Using the glove compartment as a
cooler
The glove compartment can be used to cooldrinks or food and the cooling feature functionswhen the climate system is active (i.e., when theignition is in mode II or when the engine is run-ning).

Tunnel console

Steel cargo grid*
Your vehicle can be equipped with a steel gridthat helps prevent objects in the cargo area frommoving forward into the passenger compart-ment.
The steel grid is made up of the grid itself andtwo separate mounting brackets.
Each of the brackets has a screw cover and thereare two plastic sleeves for the grid.
WARNING
•No one should ever be allowed to remainin the cargo compartment when the vehi-cle is moving.
•The steel grid may only be used in therear position described in this article. Theceiling attachment points above the frontseats are not intended to anchor thesteel grid.
•The third row of seats (7-seat models*only): these seats must be folded downwhen the steel grid is mounted in thevehicle.
•After being mounted, be sure that thesteel grid is securely anchored in place.
Mounting
1. Fold down the rear seats (second row ofseats in 7-seat models) and lift in the steelgrid through one of the rear doors or the tail-gate. The curved (convex) side of the gridshould face toward the cargo compartmentand the hooks on each side of the gridshould face upward. The mounting bracketsand plastic sleeves are not needed in thisstep.
2. Press one of the grid's hooks into the largerpart of the opening in the ceiling attachmentpoint (1) as shown in the illustration.
3.Grasp the grid near the hook and move ittoward the smaller opening (2).
> This secures the hook in the attachmentpoint.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the hook on theopposite side of the grid.
5. Attach the mounting bracket's hook throughthe cargo anchoring eyelet near the floor ofthe cargo compartment and insert the threa-ded section of the bracket through the grid'slower attachment hole (1).
6.Slide the plastic sleeve onto the threadedsection of the of the mounting bracket withthe sleeve's flange turned upward and pressit down through the hole. Screw the screwcover into place until its underside is approx.0.2 in. (5 mm) from the grid (2).
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the opposite side.
8. Center the grid and tighten both mountingbrackets alternately until the grid is heldsecurely in place.
Removing
Perform the steps above in reverse order.
The hooks can be removed before the plasticsleeves are removed from the holes in the grid.

Changing the remote key's battery
The remote key can be opened if the batteryneeds to be replaced.
The battery should be replaced if:
•The information symbol illuminates andUnavailable Charge level too low isshown in the display
and/or
•if the locks do not react after severalattempts to unlock or lock the vehicle
Replacing the battery
Hold the remote key with the front side(with the Volvo symbol) toward you and movethe button on lower edge of the key near thekey ring to the right. Slide the front coverslightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can beremoved from the key.
Move the button to the side and sliderear cover slightly upward.

Use e.g., a screwdriver to turn the batterycover counterclockwise so that the markersalign toward OPEN.
Remove the cover carefully by pressinge.g., a finger nail into the indentation.
Pry the cover up.
The battery's positive (+) side is up. Pryout the battery as shown in the illustration.
CAUTION
When handling batteries, avoid touching theircontact surfaces as this could result in poorbattery function in the remote key.
Insert a new battery1 with the positive (+)side up. Put the battery cover back in placeby:
Placing the battery's edge downward inthe holder. Slide the battery forward so that itis held in place by the two plastic catches.
Pressing the battery downward so that itis also held in place by the two uppercatches under the upper black holder.
and turn until the marker points to CLOSE.

Detachable key blade
Your vehicle's remote key contains a detachablekey blade that can be used to unlock the driver'sdoor, etc.
A Volvo retailer can provide you with the keyblade's unique code.
Using the detachable key blade
The remote key's detachable key blade can beused to:
•Unlock the driver's door if the central lockingsystem cannot be activated using the remotekey
•Lock all doors
•Activate/deactivate the mechanical childsafety locks in the rear doors
The Key Tag4 does not have a detachable keyblade.
Detaching the key blade
Hold the remote key with the front side(with the Volvo symbol) toward you and movethe button on lower edge of the key near thekey ring to the right. Slide the front coverslightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can beremoved from the key.
Remove the key blade.
After use, press the key blade back intoits position in the key, put the cover back onthe key and slide it into position.
>A click indicates that the cover is correctlyin place.
