■Adding engine oil
If the oil level is below or near
the low level mark, add engine
oil of the same type as that
already in the engine.
Make sure to check the oil type and prepare the items needed
before adding oil.
Remove the oil filler cap by turning it counterclockwise.
Add engine oil slowly, checking the dipstick.
Install the oil filler cap by turning it clockwise.

WARNING
■Used engine oil
● Used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may
cause skin disorders such as inflammation and skin cancer, so care
should be taken to avoid prolonged and repeated contact. To remove used
engine oil from your skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
● Dispose of used oil and filters only in a safe and acceptable manner. Do
not dispose of used oil and filters in household trash, in sewers or onto the
ground.
Call any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer, service station or auto parts store for information con-
cerning recycling or disposal.
● Do not leave used engine oil within the reach of children.
NOTICE
■To prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on a regular basis.
■ When replacing the engine oil
● Be careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components.
● Avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged.
● Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the vehicle.
● Be sure the engine oil filler cap is properly tightened.

■Coolant selection
Only use “Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” or a similar high quality ethylene
glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non- nitrite, and non-borate coolant with
long-life hybrid organic acid technology.
“Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” is a mixture of 50% coolant and 50% deion-
ized water. (Minimum temperature: -35 C [-31F])
For more details about engine coolant, contact any authorized Toyota retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■ If the coolant level drops within a short time of replenishing
Visually check the radiator, hoses, engine coolant reservoir caps, drain cock
and water pump.
If you cannot find a leak, have any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reliable repairer, test the cap and check for leaks in the
cooling system.
WARNING
■ When the engine is hot
Do not remove the engine coolant reservoir cap.
The cooling system may be under pressure and may spray hot coolant if the
cap is removed, causing serious injuries, such as burns.
NOTICE
■ When adding coolant
Coolant is neither plain water nor straight antifreeze. The correct mixture of
water and antifreeze must be used to provide proper lubrication, corrosion
protection and cooling. Be sure to read the antifreeze or coolant label.
■ If you spill coolant
Be sure to wash it off with water to prevent it from damaging parts or paint.

Check the radiator, condenser and clear away any foreign objects.
If any of the above parts are extremely dirty or you are not sure of
their condition, have your vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

WARNING
■ When the engine is hot
Do not touch the radiator, condenser or intercooler as they may be hot and
cause serious injuries, such as burns.

Checking and replacing fuses
Turn the engine switch off.
Open the fuse box cover.
Engine compartment Type A fuse box (if equipped)
While pushing the 2 claws, lift up
the cover.
When closing the cover, make sure
to attach the 2 claws.
Engine compartment Type B fuse box
While pushing the 3 claws, lift up
the cover.
When closing the cover, make sure
to attach the 3 claws.
If any of the electrical components do not operate, a fuse may
have blown. If this happens, check and replace the fuses as nec-
essary.

Tire pressure warning light
When the light comes on:
Low tire inflation pressure such as
• Natural causes ( P. 701)
• Flat tire ( P. 710, 730)
 Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified
level.
The light will turn off after a few minutes. In case the
light does not turn off even if the tire inflation pres-
sure is adjusted, have the system checked by any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
When the light comes on after blinking for 1 minute:
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system ( P. 701)
 Have the system checked by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
*1High engine coolant temperature warning light (warning
buzzer)
Indicates that the engine coolant temperature is too high

Master warning light
A buzzer sounds and the warning light comes on and
flashes to indicate that the master warning system has
detected a malfunction.

Indicates that the LDA (Lane Departure Alert with steering
control) system has determined that the driver does not
have their hands on the steering wheel while the steering
control function is on

■ The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes such as
natural air leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature.
In this case, adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warning light
(after a few minutes).
■ When a tire is replaced with a spare tire (vehicles with spare tire)
Vehicles with full-size spare tire: T he spare tire is also equipped with a tire
pressure warning valve and transmitter. The tire pressure warning light will
turn on if the tire inflation pressure of the spare tire is low. If a tire goes flat,
the tire pressure warning light will not turn off even though the flat tire has
been replaced with the spare tire. Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire
and adjust the tire inflation pressure. The tire pressure warning light will go off
after a few minutes.
Vehicles with compact spare tire: The compact spare tire is not equipped with
a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. If a tire goes flat, the tire pres-
sure warning light will not turn off even though the flat tire has been replaced
with the spare tire. Replace the spare ti re with the repaired tire and adjust the
tire inflation pressure. The tire pressure warning light will go off after a few
minutes.
■ Conditions that the tire pressure warning system may not function prop-
erly

■ If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for
1minute
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for
1 minute when the engine switch is turned to the “ON” position (vehicles with-
out smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart
entry & start system), have it checked by any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for
1 minute when you change between registered wheel sets, confirm the cor-
rect wheel set has been selected.
■ Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard because of noisy place or an
audio sound.

■ If the following messages are shown (AWD models only)
The system may be an overheated. Reduce the vehicle speed or stop the
vehicle in a safe place.
• “AWD System Overheated 2WD Mode Engaged”
• “AWD System Overheated Switching to 2WD Mode”
■ If “Oil Maintenance Required Soon” is shown
Indicates that the engine oil is scheduled to be changed. (The indicator will
not work properly unless the message has been reset.)
Check the engine oil, and change if necessary. After changing the engine oil,
the message should be reset. ( P. 621)
■ If “Oil Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer.” is shown
Indicates that the engine oil should be changed. (After the engine oil is
changed and the message has been reset.)
Check and change the engine oil, and oil filter by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer. After changing
the engine oil, the message should be reset. ( P. 621)
■ If “A New Key has been Registered Contact Your Dealer for Details” is
shown (vehicles with a smart entry & start system)
This message will be displayed each time the driver's door is opened when
the doors are unlocked from the outside for approximately one week after a
new electronic key has been registered.
If this message is displayed but you have not had a new electronic key regis-
tered, ask any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer to check if an unknown electronic key (other than those in
your possession) has been registered.
