■There is a malfunction in the system
*1: The system judges a person of adult size as an adult. When a smalleradult sits in the front passenger seat, the system may not recognize him/
her as an adult depending on his/her physique and posture.
*2: In the event the front passenger is wearing a seat belt.
*3: In the event the front passenger does not wear a seat belt
*4: For some children, child in seat, child in booster seat or child in convertibleseat, the system may not recognize him/her as a child. Factors which may
affect this can be the physique or posture.
*5: Never install a rear-facing child restraint system on the front passengerseat. A forward-facing child restraint system should only be installed on the
front passenger seat when it is unavoidable. ( →P. 53)

The units used on the speedometer and some indicators may differ
depending on where the vehicle is sold.
Warning lights and indicators
The warning lights and indicators on the instrument cluster and
center panel inform the driver of the status of the vehicle’s vari-
ous systems.
For the purpose of explanation, the following illustration dis-
plays all warning lights a nd indicators illuminated.

*1: These lights turn on when the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ONmode to indicate that a system check is being performed. They will turn off
after the engine is started, or after a few seconds. There may be a mal-
function in a system if a light does not come on, or turn off. Have the vehi-
cle inspected by your Toyota dealer.

■ If a safety system warning light does not come on
Should a safety system light such as the ABS and SRS warning light not
come on when you start the engine, this could mean that these systems are
not available to help protect you in an accident, which could result in death
or serious injury. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immedi-
ately if this occurs.

Operation of each component
Auto anti-glare inside rear view mirror
Responding to the level of brightne ss of the headlights of vehicles
behind, the reflected light is automatically reduced.
Changing automatic anti-glare
function mode
ON/OFF
When the automatic anti-glare
function is in ON mode, the indica-
tor illuminates.
The function will set to ON mode
each time the engine switch is
turned to IGNITION ON mode.
Pressing the button turns the func-
tion to OFF mode. (The indicator
also turns off.)
■ To prevent sensor error (vehicles with an auto anti-glare inside rear view
mirror)

To ensure that the sensors operate prop-
erly, do not touch or cover them.
WARNING
Do not adjust the position of the mirror while driving.
Doing so may lead to mishandling of the vehicle and cause an accident,
resulting in death or serious injury.
