››› in Safety instructions on page 92 Securing child seats with “ISOFIX” and Top Tether*
Child seats can be secured quickly, easily
and s
af
ely
on the rear outer seats with the
“ISOFIX” and Top Tether* system.
Two “ISOFIX” retaining rings are fitted on
each rear seat. In some vehicles, the rings are secured to the seat frame and, in others,
they are sec
ured to the rear floor. The “ISO-
FIX” rings are located between the rear seat
backrest and the seat cushioning. The Top
Tether* rings are located at the rear of the backrests of the rear seats (behind the seat
back
rest or in the boot).
To understand the compatibility of the "ISO-
FIX" systems in the vehicle, consult the table
below. » 27

● Remove the protective caps of the “ISOFIX”
rings
by placing a finger in the hole and pull-
ing up ››› Fig. 32.
● Press the child seat onto the “ISOFIX” re-
taining rin

tr
ap for securing the seat to the vehi-
cle anchor point, located at the back of the
rear seat backrest and provide greater re-
straint.
The objective of this strap is to reduce for-
ward movements of the child seat in a crash,
to reduce the risk of injuries to the head from
hitting the inside of the vehicle.
Using the Top Tether in rear-facing mounted
seats
Currently, there are very few rear-facing child
safety seats that have Top Tether. Please
carefully read and follow the seat manufac-
turer instructions to learn the proper way to
install the Top Tether strap. Securing the Top Tether* to the an-

The safety
equipment mentioned above

the event of an accident. However, these
safety systems can only be effective if you
and your passengers are sitting in a correct

in the ev
ent of an accident, we recom- mend the following adjustments for the driv-
er:
– Adjust the steering wheel so that there is a
dist
ance of at least 25 cm between the
steering wheel and the centre of your chest
››› Fig. 84.
– Move the driver's seat forwards or back-
ward
s so that you are able to press the ac-
celerator, brake and clutch pedals to the
floor with your knees still slightly angled
››› .
– Ensure that you can reach the highest point
of the s

eering wheel.
– Adjust the head restraint so that its upper
edge is
at the same level as the top of your
head, or as close as possible to the same
level as the top of your head ››› Fig. 85.
– Move the seat backrest to an upright posi-
tion so that
your back rests completely
against it.
– Fasten your seat belt securely ›››
page 80.
– Keep both feet in the footwell so that you
have the
vehicle under control at all times.

Safety
●
Never ho l
d children or babies on your lap,
this can result in potentially fatal injuries to
the child!
● Never allow a child to be transported in a
vehicl
e without being properly secured, or to
stand up or kneel on a seat while travelling.
In an accident, the child could be flung
through the vehicle, causing possibly fatal in-
juries to themselves and to the other vehicle
occupants.
● If children assume an improper sitting posi-
tion when the vehic
le is moving, they expose
themselves to greater risk of injury in the
event of a sudden braking manoeuvre or in an
accident. This is particularly important if the
child is travelling on the front passenger seat
and the airbag system is triggered in an acci-
dent; as this could cause serious injury or
even death.
● A suitable child seat can protect your child!
● Never leave a child alone in the child seat
or inside the
vehicle because depending on
the season, very high temperatures may be
reached inside a parked vehicle, which could
be fatal.
● Children who are less than 1.5 metres tall
must
not wear a normal seat belt without a
child seat, as this could cause injuries to the
abdominal and neck areas during a sudden
braking manoeuvre or in an accident.
● Do not allow the seat belt to become twis-
ted and the seat
belt should be properly in
place ››› page 80.
● Only one child may occupy a child seat
›››
page 92, Child seats. ●
When a chi l
d seat is mounted in the rear
seats, the door child-proof lock should be ac-
tivated ››› page 133. Child seats

When travelling, children must be secured in
the v ehic
le with a restraint system suitable
for age, weight and size.
● Read and always observe information and
warning
s concerning the use of child seats
››› page 91. WARNING
The retaining rings are designed only for use
with “ISOFIX” and T op
Tether* system child
seats.
● Never secure other child seats that do not
have the “ISOFIX” or T
op Tether* system, or
retaining belts or objects to the fastening
rings - this can result in potentially fatal inju-
ries to the child.
● Ensure that the child seat is secured cor-
rectly u
sing the “ISOFIX” and Top Tether* se-
curing rings. WARNING
An undue installation of the safety seat will
incr e
ase the risk of injury in the event of a
crash.
● Never tie the retainer strap to a hook in the
luggag
e compartment.
● Never secure or tie luggage or other items
to the low
er anchorages (ISOFIX) or the upper
ones (Top Tether). Categorisation of child seats into

Child seats are subject to the regulation ECE-
R 44. ECE-R stands for: Economic Commis-
sion for Europe Regulation.
The child seats are grouped into 5 catego-
ries:

months)
Group 0+: Up to 13 kg (up to around 18
months)
Group 1: from 9 to 18 kg (up to approx. 4
