EXTERIOR REAR

FLEXIBLE SEATING
WARNING
.Never allow anyone to ride in the
cargo area or on the rear seats
when they are in the fold-down
position. In a collision, people riding
in these areas without proper re-
straints are more likely to be ser-
iously injured or killed.
. Do not allow people to ride in any
area of your vehicle that is not
equipped with seats and seat belts.
Be sure everyone in your vehicle is
in a seat and using a seat belt
properly.
. Do not fold down the rear seats
when occupants are in the rear seat
area or any cargo is on the rear
seats.
. Head restraints should be adjusted
properly as they may provide sig-
nificant protection against injury in
an accident. Always replace and
adjust them properly if they have
been removed for any reason. .
If the head restraints are removed
for any reason, they should be
securely stored to prevent them
from causing injury to passengers
or damage to the vehicle in case of
sudden braking or an accident.
. When returning the seatbacks to the
upright position, be certain they are
completely secured in the latched
position. If they are not completely
secured, passengers may be injured
in an accident or sudden stop.
. Properly secure all cargo to help
prevent it from sliding or shifting.
Do not place cargo higher than the
seatbacks. In a sudden stop or
collision, unsecured cargo could
cause personal injury.
. When folding the bench seat seat-
back down for maximum storage,
make sure the seat base is in the
latched position by rocking the seat
base. If the seat base is not properly
secured, cargo stored on top of a
folded seatback may become a
projectile causing personal injury
or vehicle damage.
CAUTION
.When folding the 2nd row seat for
maximum cargo hauling, be sure
that cargo does not contact the
center console of the captain’s seat
(if so equipped) to avoid possible
damage to the console.
. When folding or returning the seat
(s) to the upright position, to avoid
injury to yourself and others:
— Make sure that the seat path is
clear before moving the seat.
— Be careful not to allow hands or feet to get caught or pinched in
the seat.
Stowing 2nd and 3rd row seats
To stow 2nd and 3rd row seats for maximum
cargo capacity:

Stowing 3rd row center seat belt:
When folding down the 3rd row seat, the 3rd
center seat belt can be retracted into a stowed
position.
1. Hold the connector tongue
*1so that the
seat belt does not retract suddenly when the
tongue is released from the connector
buckle. Release the connector tongue by
inserting a suitable tool such as key
*Ainto
the connector buckle.
2. Store the seat belt tongue into the tongue holder
*Bfirst*2.
3. Store the connector tongue into the retrac- tor base
*3.
WARNING
Do not unfasten the 3rd center seat belt
connector except when folding down
the 3rd seat.

2. Select the “Display” key.
3. Select an item you wish to adjust.
4. Adjust the level of the setting item using themulti-function controller.
NOTE:
Do not adjust any of the display settings of
the Around View
ŠMonitor while the vehi-
cle is moving. Make sure the parking brake
is firmly applied.

To set up the Around ViewŠMonitor to your
preferred settings, push the SETTING button
with the Around View
ŠMonitor turned on and
then select the “Settings” key.

with Around View
ŠMonitor)” (P.4-42) .

When this item is turned to ON, the predictive
course line is displayed in the front and the
rearview and bird’s-eye view.
Camera View Priority:
The view shown on the screen at the beginning
of Around View
ŠMonitor operation can be
selected in order of priority.
Non-viewable Area Reminder:
With this item turned to ON, the non-viewable
area is highlighted in yellow for several seconds
after the bird’s-eye view is displayed. It will be
shown only the first time after the ignition switch
is placed in the ON position.

See “Moving Object Detection (MOD)” (P.4-
46) .

operate the vehicle in accordance with
these system limitations could result in

the ignition switch is placed in the ON position,
“Sonar is OFF” is displayed briefly.
Towing Mode:
When this item is turned ON, only the rear sonar
is OFF. The amber markers are displayed at the
rear corners of the vehicle icon.
Show Camera when Sonar Activate:
When this item is turned ON, the camera view is
automatically shown on the display in the case
that the distance to the objects measured by the
sonar is becoming short.
Sonar Sensitivity:
Adjust the sensitivity level of the sensor higher
(right) or lower (left) .
SONAR SYSTEM LIMITATIONS
WARNING
Listed below are the system limitations
for the sonar function. Failure to oper-
ate the vehicle in accordance with these
system limitations could result in ser-
ious injury or death.
.Inclement weather or ultrasonic
sources such as an automatic car
wash, a truck’ s compressed-air
brakes or a pneumatic drill may affect the function of the system,
including reduced performance or a
false activation.
. This function is designed as an aid
to the driver in detecting large
stationary objects to help avoid
damaging the vehicle.
. The system is not designed to pre-
vent contact with small or moving
objects.
. The system will not detect small
objects below the bumper, and may
not detect objects close to the
bumper or on the ground.
. The system may not detect the
following objects:
— Fluffy objects such as snow,
cloth, cotton, grass or wool.
— Thin objects such as rope, wire or chain.
— Wedge-shaped objects.
. If your vehicle sustains damage to
the bumper fascia, leaving it mis-
aligned or bent, the sensing zone
may be altered causing inaccurate
measurement of objects or false
alarms.
CAUTION
Excessive noise (such as audio system
volume or an open vehicle window) will
interfere with the tone and it may not be
heard.
SYSTEM TEMPORARILY UNAVAIL-
ABLE
When the amber markers are displayed at the
corners of the vehicle icon and the function
cannot be activated from the Camera setting
menu (the setting items are grayed out) , the
sonar system may be malfunctioning.
SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
CAUTION
Keep the surface of the sonar sensors
(located on the front and rear bumper
fascia) free from accumulations of
snow, ice and dirt. Do not scratch the
surface of the sonar sensors when
cleaning. If the sensors are covered,
the accuracy of the sonar function will
be diminished.

MOD function setting
To activate or deactivate the MOD function,
push the SETTING button, select “Others” key,
select the “Camera” key on the center display,
and then select the “Moving Object Detection
(MOD)” key.

When this item is turned on, the MOD is
activated. When this item is turned off (indicator
turns off) , the MOD system is deactivated.
When the MOD system is deactivated, “MOD”
*2will disappear on the*3and the MOD
icon
*1will disappear as well. When the sonar
is turned off on the setting menu as well, the
*3will disappear.
MOD SYSTEM LIMITATIONS
WARNING
Listed below are the system limitations
for MOD. Failure to operate the vehicle
in accordance with these system limita-
tions could result in serious injury or
death.
. Do not use the MOD system when
towing a trailer. The system may not
function properly.
. Excessive noise (for example, audio
system volume or open vehicle
window) will interfere with the
chime sound, and it may not be
heard.
. The MOD system performance will
be limited according to environmen-
tal conditions and surrounding ob-
jects such as:
— When there is low contrast be-
tween background and the mov-
ing objects.
— When there is blinking source of light.

ment even if the other two wheels
are raised off the ground. Make sure
you inform test facility personnel
that your vehicle is equipped with
4WD before it is placed on a dy-
namometer. Using the wrong test
equipment may result in drivetrain
damage or unexpected vehicle
movement which could result in
serious vehicle damage or personal
injury (4WD models) .
. When a wheel is off the ground due
to an unlevel surface, do not spin
the wheel excessively.
. Accelerating quickly, sharp steering
maneuvers or sudden braking may
cause loss of control.
. If at all possible, avoid sharp turning
maneuvers, particularly at high
speeds. Your vehicle has a higher
center of gravity than a conventional
passenger car. The vehicle is not
designed for cornering at the same
speeds as conventional passenger
cars. Failure to operate this vehicle
correctly could result in loss of
control and/or a rollover accident.
. Always use tires of the same type,
size, brand, construction (bias, bias- belted or radial) , and tread pattern
on all four wheels. Install tire chains
on the rear wheels when driving on
slippery roads and drive carefully.
. Be sure to check the brakes imme-
diately after driving in mud or water.
See “Brake system” (P.5-136) for wet
brakes.
. Avoid parking your vehicle on steep
hills. If you get out of the vehicle
and it rolls forward, backward or
sideways, you could be injured.
. Whenever you drive off-road
through sand, mud or water as deep
as the wheel hub, more frequent
maintenance may be required. See
the maintenance schedule shown in
the "9. Maintenance and schedules"
section.
. Spinning the rear wheels on slip-
pery surfaces may cause the 4WD
warning light to flash. The 4WD
system may also automatically
switch from the 4WD mode to the
2WD mode. This could reduce trac-
tion. Be especially careful when
towing a trailer (4WD models) .WARNING
Do not operate the push-button ignition
switch while driving the vehicle except
in an emergency. (The engine will stop
when the ignition switch is pushed 3
consecutive times or the ignition switch
is pushed and held for more than 2
seconds.) If the engine stops while the
vehicle is being driven, this could lead
to a crash and serious injury.
Before operating the push-button ignition
switch, be sure to move the shift lever to the P
(Park) position.
