Auto Stop & Go (AS&G)system* E00201501057This paragraph summarizes the major itemsof the Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) system
such as the characteristics, operating proce- dures, etc. For details, refer to “Auto Stop &
Go (AS&G) system” on page 6-19.
The AS&G system reduces the emission of
exhaust gases and increases fuel efficiency. The AS&G system automatically stops and restarts the engine without the use of the igni-tion switch or the engine switch when the ve-
hicle is stopped, such as at traffic lights or in
a traffic jam.
Activation
E00201601061
The AS&G system is automatically activated when the ignition switch is turned to the
“ON” position or the operation mode is put in
ON.

Type 2Type 1System characteristics
E00202301065
The principle of the AS&G system is that it
adapts to the vehicle’s needs (i.e. energy sup- ply). This means that in certain circumstancesthe engine will not stop and in other circum-
stances the engine will restart by itself.
Circumstances when the engine
will restart by itself
E00202400027
l The interior temperature rises and the air
conditioning starts operating in order to lower the temperature.
l Electric power consumption is high.
l The brake pedal is depressed repeatedly.
l Vehicle speed is 3 km/h (2 mph)
or
higher when coasting on a slope.
l Mode selection dial is set to the demister
position.
l When the air conditioning is operated by
pressing the air conditioning switch.
l When the preset temperature of the air
conditioning is changed significantly.
l When the air conditioning is operated in
AUTO mode where the temperature con-trol dial is set to the max. hot or the max.
cool position (for vehicles with automat- ic air conditioning).
Other than the conditions mentioned above, the engine may restart automatically. For de-
tails, refer to “Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) sys- tem” on page 6-19.
Circumstances when the engine
will not stop
E00202501054
l Ambient temperature is low.
lAfter the engine restarts automatically
and the vehicle stops again within 10
seconds.
l After the engine restarts automatically
and the vehicle remains stationary.
l Mode selection dial is set to the demister
position (see illustration below).
l When the air conditioning is operated in
AUTO mode where the temperature con-
trol dial is set to the max. hot or the max.
cool position (for vehicles with automat- ic air conditioning).
Other than the conditions mentioned above, the engine may not stop automatically. For details, refer to “Auto Stop & Go (AS&G)
system” on page 6-19.

Changing the operation mode
E00312200133
If you press the engine switch without de-
pressing the brake pedal ( A/T or CVT ) or the
clutch pedal ( M/T), you can change the oper-
ation mode in the order of OFF, ACC, ON, OFF.CAUTIONl When the engine is not running, put the op-
eration mode in OFF. Leaving the operation mode in ON or ACC for a long time when
the engine is not running may cause the bat- tery to be discharged, making it impossible
to start the engine, lock and unlock the steer- ing wheel.CAUTIONl When the battery is disconnected, the cur-
rent operation mode is memorized. After re-
connecting the battery, the memorized mode is selected automatically. Before disconnect-ing the battery for repair or replacement,
make sure to put the operation mode in OFF.
Be careful if you are not sure which opera-
tion mode the vehicle is in when the battery
is run down.
l The operation mode cannot be changed from
OFF to ACC or ON if the keyless operation
key is not detected to be in the vehicle. Refer
to “Keyless operation system: Operating range for starting the engine and changing
the operation mode” on page 3-10.ACC power auto-cutout func-
tion
E00312300088
After approximately 30 minutes has elapsed
with the operation mode in ACC, the func- tion automatically cuts out the power for the
audio system and other electric devices that
can be operated with that mode.
When the engine switch is pressed while the operation mode is in ACC, the power is sup-
plied again to those devices.
NOTEl It is possible to modify functions as follows:NOTE•
The time until the power cuts out can be
changed to approximately 60 minutes.
• The ACC power auto-cutout function can
be deactivated.

Tips for starting
l The operation mode can be in any mode
to start the engine.
l The starter motor will be turning for up
to approximately 15 seconds if the en-
gine switch is released at once. Pressing the engine switch again while the starter
motor is still turning will stop the starter motor. The starter motor will be turningfor up to approximately 30 seconds while the engine switch is pressed.
If the engine does not start, wait for a
while and then attempt to start the en- gine again. Trying repeatedly with the
starter motor still running will damage the starter mechanism.WARNINGl Never run the engine in a closed or poorly
ventilated area any longer than is needed
to move your vehicle in or out of the area. Carbon monoxide gases are odourless and can be fatal.CAUTIONl Never attempt to start the engine by pushing
or pulling the vehicle.
l Do not run the engine at high rpm or drive
the vehicle at high speed until the engine has had a chance to warm up.Starting the engine (petrol-pow-
ered vehicles)

that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such
as lamps, air conditioning blower and
rear window demister, are turned off.
2. While depressing the brake pedal ( CVT)
or the clutch pedal ( M/T), press the ac-
celerator pedal halfway and hold it there, then crank the engine. Release the accel-erator pedal, immediately after the en-
gine starts.
3. If the engine still will not start, the en-
gine could be flooded with too much
petrol. While depressing the brake pedal (CVT ) or the clutch pedal ( M/T), push
the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, then press the engine
switch to crank the engine. If the engine does not start after 5 to 6 seconds, push
the engine switch to stop cranking the
engine, and release the accelerator pedal. Put the operation mode in OFF. Wait a
few seconds, and then press the engine
switch to crank the engine again while
