GWARNING

The automatic headlampf eature is only an aid.
The driver is responsible for th evehicle's light-
ing at all times.

Only for Canada:
The daytime runnin glamps improve th evisibility
of your vehicle durin gthe day. The daytime run-
nin glamps function is required by law in Can-
ada. It canno tthe refore be deactivate d.
When t

h ee ngine is runnin gand th evehicle is
stationary: if you mov ethe selecto rleve rfro ma
driv eposition to P,thedaytime runnin glamps/
low-beam headlamps go out after three
minutes.
When th eengine is running, th evehicle is sta-
tionar yand in bright ambient light:ify ou turnthe
light switch to T,thedaytime runnin glamps
and parking lamps switch on.
If th eengine is runnin gand you tur nthe light
switch to L,themanual settings tak eprec-
edence ove rthe daytime runnin glamps.

The daytime runninglamps improve the visibility
of your vehicle during the day. To do this, the
daytime runnin glamps function must be
switched on using the on-board computer
(
Ypage 172).
If the engine is runnin gand you turn the light
switch to TorL,t he manual settings
take precedenceo ver the daytime running
lamps.
Low-beam headlamps
GWARNING
When the light switch is set to Ã,the low-
beam headlamps may not be switched on
automatically if there is fog, snow or other
causes of poor visibility due to the weather
conditions such as spray. There is arisk of an
accident.
In such situations, turn the light switch to
L.
Even if the light sensor does not detect that it is
dark, the parking lamps and low-beam head-
lamps switch on when the ignition is switched on and the light switch is set to the Lposition.
This is aparticularly useful function in the event
of rain and fog.
XTo switch on the low-beam headlamps:
turn the SmartKey in the ignition lock to posi- tion 2or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch to L.
The green Lindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
Rear fog lamp
The rear fog lamp improves visibility of your
vehicle for the traffic behind in the event of thick
fog. Please take noteoft he country-specific
regulations for the use of rear fog lamps.
XTo switch on the rear fog lamps: turn the
SmartKey to position 2in the ignition lock or
start the engine.
XTurn the light switch to LorÃ.
XPress the Rbutton.
The yellow Rindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
XTo switch off the rear fog lamp: press the
R button.
The yellow Rindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster goes out.
Parking lamps
!If the battery charge is very low, the parking
lamps or standin glamps are automatically
switched off to enable the next engine start.
Always park your vehicle safely and suffi-
ciently lit according to legal standards. Avoid
using the parking lamps Toveraperiod of
several hours. If possible, switch on the right-
hand X or left-hand Wstandin glamp.
XTo switch on: turn the light switch to T.
The green Tindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
Standing lamps
Switching on the standin glamps ensures the
corresponding side of the vehicle is illuminated.
XTo switch on the standing lamps: the
SmartKey is not in t
he ignition lock or it is in
position 0.
XTurn the light switch to W(left-han dside of
the vehicle) or X(right-hand side of the
vehicle).
Combination switch

XTo indicate briefly: press the combination
switch briefly to the pressure point in the
direction of arrow ;or?.
The corresponding turn signal flashes three
times.
XTo indicate: press the combination switch
beyond the pressure point in the direction of

In the Ãposition, the high-bea mhead-
lamps are onlys witched on when it is dark and
the engine is running.
The blue Kindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up when the high-beam
headlamps are switched on.
XTo switc hoff the high-beam headlamps:
move the combinatio nswitch back to its nor-
malp osition.
The blue Kindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster goe sout.
Hazard warning lamps
XTo switc honthe hazard warning lamps:

All turn signals flash. If yo unow switch on a
turn signalu sing the combinatio nswitch ,only
the turn signall ampont he corresponding

press button :.
The hazard warning lamps automaticall yswitch
on if:
Ran ai rbag is deployed or
Rthe vehicl edecelerates rapidly from aspeed
of above 45 mph (70 km/h )and come stoa
standstill
The hazard warning lamps switch off automati-
cally if the vehicl ereachesas peed of above
6m ph (10 km/h )again afteraf ullb rake appli-
cation.
iThe hazard warning lamps stil lope rate if the
ignition is switched off.
Cornerin glight function
The cornering light functio nimprove sthe illu-
minatio nofthe roa doveraw idea ngle in the
direction yo uare turning, enabling better visi-
bility in tight bends, for example. The cornering
light functio ncan onlybea ctivatedwhent he
low-bea mheadlamps are switched on.

Active light function
The active light functio nisas ystem thatm oves
the headlamps according to the steering move-
ments of the front wheels .Inthisw ay,relevant
areas remai nillum inated whil edriving .This
allows yo utoidentify pedestrians ,cyclists and
animals.
Active: when the lights are switched on.
Vehicles with Lane Keeping Assist: the active
light functio nevaluate sthe course of the lane in
which yo uare driving and pre-emptively con-
trol sthe active light function.
