For Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC to assist you
when driving, the radar sensor system must be
operational.
Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC operates in the range
betwee n0mph (0 km/h) and 120 mph
(200 km/h).
Do not use Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC on roads
with steep gradients.
As Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC transmits radar
waves, it can resemble the radar detectors of
the responsible authorities .You can refertot he
relevant chapter in the Operator's Manual if
questions are asked about this.

GWARNING
Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC brakes your vehicle
with up to 50% of the maximum possible
deceleration. If this deceleratio nisnot suffi-
cient, Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC alertsy ou
with avisual and acoustic warning. There is a
risk of an accident.

Settingaspecified minimum distance
You can set the specified minimum distance for
Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC by varying the time
span between one and two seconds. With this
function, you can set the minimum distance that
Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC maintains to the vehi-
cle in front,d ependent on the vehicle speed. You
can see this distance in the multifunction dis-

The specified minimum distance can be
changed while Distanc ePilot DISTRONIC is
switched on or off.

!When parking, pay particular attention to
objects above or below the sensors, such as
flower pots or trailer drawbars. PARKTRONIC
does not detect such objects when they are in
the immediate vicinity of the vehicle. You
could damage the vehicle or the objects.
The sensors may not detect snow and other
objects that absorb ultrasonic waves.
Ultrasonic sources such as an automatic car
wash, the compressed-air brakes on atruck
or ap neumatic drill could cause PARKTRONIC
to malfunction.
PARKTRONIC may not function correctly on
uneven terrain.
PARKTRONIC is activated automaticallyw hen
you:
Rswitch on the ignition
Rshift the transmission to position D,Ror N
Rrelease the electric parking brake
PARKTRONIC is deactivated at speeds above
11 mph (18 km/h). It is reactivated at lower
speeds.
Range of the sensors
General notes
PARKTRONIC does not take objects into con-
sideration that are:
Rbelow the detection range, e.g. people, ani-
mals or objects.
Rabove the detection range, e.g. overhanging
loads, truck overhangs or loading ramps.
:Sensors in the front bumper, left-hand side

The sensors must be free from dirt, ice or slush.
They can otherwise not function correctly. Clean
the sensors regularly, taking care not to scratch
or damage them (

Parking Guidance
Important safety notes
Parking Guidance is an electronic parking aid
with ultrasound. Ultrasound is used to measure
the road on both sides of the vehicle. Asuitable
parking space is indicated by the parking sym-
bol. You receive steering instructions when
parking. You may also use PARKTRONIC
(
Ypage 149).
Parking Guidance is only an aid. It is not a
replacement for your attention to your immedi-
ate surroundings. You are always responsible
for safe maneuvering, parking and exiting a
parking space. When maneuvering, parking or
pulling out of aparking space, make sure that
there are no persons, animals or object sinthe
area in which you are maneuvering.
GWARNING
If object sare located above the detection
range, Parking Guidance may provide steering
instructions too soon. You may cause acolli-
sion as aresult. There is arisk of an accident.
If object sare located above the detection
range, stop and switch off Parking Assist.
!If unavoidable, you should drive over obsta-
cles such as curbs slowly and not at asharp
angle. Otherwise, you may damage the
wheels or tires.
When PARKTRONIC is deactivated, Parking
Guidance is also unavailable.
Parking Guidance may also display spaces not
suitable for parking, e.g.:
Rwhere parking or stopping is prohibited
Rin front of driveways or entrances and exits
Ron unsuitable surfaces
Use Parking Guidance for parking spaces:
Rthat are paralleltot he direction of travel
Rthat are on straight roads, not bends
Rthat are on the same level as the road, i.e. not
on the pavement, for example. Parking Guid-
ance may not detect flat curbs
Parking tips:
ROn narrow roads, drive as close to the parking
space as possible.
RParking spaces that are littered or overgrown
might be identified or measured incorrectly.
RParking spaces that are partially occupied by
trailer drawbars might not be identified as
such or be measured incorrectly.

Rif the rear of your vehicle is damaged. In this
event, have the camera position and setting
checked at aqualified specialist workshop
The field of vision and other functions of the rear
view camera may be restricted due to additional
accessories on the rear of the vehicle (e.g.
license plate holder, bicycle rack).
For technical reasons, leaving the standard
height can result in inaccuracies in the guide
lines on vehicles with aheight-adjustable chas-

drops and dust by means of aflap. When the
rear view camera is activated, this flap opens.
