Maintenance and care

Turn the engine switch off.
Open the glove box. Slide off the
damper.
Push in the glove box on the vehicle’s
outer side to disconnect the claws.
Then pull out the glove box and dis-
connect the lower claws.
Remove the cover.
Air conditioning filter
The air conditioning filter must be changed regularly to maintain air condi-
tioning efficiency.

Remove the filter cover.
Unlock the filter cover.
Move the filter cover in the direc-
tion of the arrow, and then pull it
out of the claws.
Remove the filter case.
There may be foreign objects on top of the air conditioning filter.
Remove the air conditioning filter
from the filter case and replace it
with a new one.
The “ UP” marks shown on the filter and the filter case should be pointing up.
■Checking interval
Inspect and replace the air conditioning filt er according to the maintenance schedule. In dusty areas or areas with heavy traffic fl ow, early replacement may be required. (For
scheduled maintenance information, please refer to the “Lexus Service Booklet” or “Lexus Warranty Booklet”.)
■If air flow from the vents decreases dramatically
The filter may be clogged. Check the filter and replace if necessary.
■Air conditioning filter with deodorizing function
When fragrances are placed in your vehicle, the deodorizing effect may become signifi-
cantly weakened in a short period.
When an air conditioning odor comes out cont inuously, replace the air conditioning filter.

NOTICE
■When using the air conditioning system
Make sure that a filter is always installed. Using the air conditioning system without a filter may cause damage to the system.
■To prevent damage to the filter cover
When moving the filter cover in the direction of
arrow to release the fitting, pay attention not to apply excessive force to the claws. Otherwise,the claws may be damaged.

●Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air conditioning after use is normal.)
●Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
●Engine coolant temperature gauge needle continually points higher than nor-
mal
●Changes in exhaust sound
●Excessive tire squeal when cornering
●Strange noises related to the suspension system
●Pinging or other noises related to the engine
●Engine missing, stumbling or running roughly
●Appreciable loss of power
●Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
●Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
●Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy fe eling, pedal almost touches the floor
If you think something is wrong
If you notice any of the following symptoms, your vehicle probably needs
adjustment or repair. Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified an d equipped professional as soon as possible.

Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the air conditioning system, and
then stop the engine.
If you see steam:
Carefully lift the hood after the steam subsides.
If you do not see steam:
Carefully lift the hood.
After the engine has cooled down sufficiently, inspect the hoses and radiator
core (radiator) for any leaks.

Cooling fans
If a large amount of coolant leaks,
immediately contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or anotherduly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
If your vehicle overheats
The following may indicate that your vehicle is overheating.
●The needle of the engine coolant temperature gauge (P. 96) enters the
red zone, or a loss of engine power is experienced. (For example, the vehi-
cle speed does not increase.)
●“Engine Coolant Temp High Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual” is
shown on the multi-information display.
●Steam comes out from under the hood.

Start the engine and turn the air conditioning system on to check that the radi-
ator cooling fan operates and to check for coolant leaks from the radiator or
hoses.
The fans operate when the air conditioning system is turned on immediately after a
cold start. Confirm that the fans are operating by checking the fan sound and air flow. If it is difficult to check these, turn the air conditioning system on and off repeatedly. (The fan may not operate in freezing temperatures.)
If the fans are not operating:
Stop the engine immediately and contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
If the fans are operating:
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Check if “Engine Coolant Temp High Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Man-
ual” is shown on the multi-information display.
If the message does not disappear:
Stop the engine and contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.
If the message is not displayed:
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest authorized Lexus dealer or repairer,
or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
WARNING
■To prevent an accident or injury when in specting under the hood of your vehicle
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury such as burns.
●If steam is seen coming from under the h ood, do not open the hood until the steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot.
●Keep hands and clothing (especially a tie, a scarf or a muffler) away from the fans andbelts. Failure to do so may cause the hands or clothing to be caught, resulting in seri- ous injury.
●Do not loosen the radiator cap and the coolant reservoir caps while the engine andradiator are hot.High temperature steam or coolant could spray out.
