Air conditioning system operation tips
If the vehicle has been parked indirect sunlight during hot weather,
open the windows for a short time
to let the hot air inside the vehicle
escape.
Use air conditioning to reduce humidity and moisture inside the
vehicle on rainy or humid days.
During air conditioning system operation, you may occasionallynotice a slight change in enginespeed as the air conditioning com-
pressor cycles. This is a normal
system operation characteristic.
Use the air conditioning system every month only for a few minutes
to ensure maximum system per-
formance. When using the air conditioning
system, you may notice clear water
dripping (or even puddling) on the
ground under the passenger side
of the vehicle. This is a normal sys-
tem operation characteristic.
Operating the air conditioning sys- tem in the recirculated air position
provides maximum cooling, how-
ever, continual operation in this
mode may cause the air inside the
vehicle to become stale.
During cooling operation, you may occasionally notice a misty air flow
because of rapid cooling and
humid air intake. This is a normal
system operation characteristic. Climate control air filter The climate control air filter installed
behind the glove box filters the dustor other pollutants that come into the
vehicle from the outside through theheating and air conditioning system.
If dust or other pollutants accumulate
in the filter over a period of time, the
air flow from the air vents may
decrease, resulting in moisture accu-
mulation on the inside of the wind-
screen even when the outside (fresh)
air position is selected. If this hap-
pens, we recommend that the cli-
mate control air filter be replaced by
an authorised Kia dealer.

 Replace the filter according to the Maintenance Schedule.
If the vehicle is being driven in
severe conditions such as dusty,
rough roads, more frequent cli-
mate control air filter inspections
and changes are required.
 When the air flow rate suddenly decreases, we recommend that the
system be checked by an autho-

When the amount of refrigerant is
low, the performance of the air condi-
tioning is reduced. Overfilling alsohas a bad influence on the air condi-tioning system.
Therefore, if abnormal operation is
found, we recommend that the sys-
tem be inspected by an authorised
Kia dealer.
*: Your vehicle is filled with R-134a orR-1234yf according to the regula-
tion in your country at the time of
producing. You can find out which
air conditioning refrigerant is
applied your vehicle at the label
inside of bonnet. Refer to chapter 9
for more detail location of air con-
ditioning refrigerant label.

Because the refriger-
ant is at very high
pressure, the air con-ditioning system
should only be serv-
iced by trained and certified
technicians. It is important thatthe correct type and amount of
oil and refrigerant is used.

For maximum defrosting, set thetemperature control to the hottest
position and the fan speed controlto the highest speed.
If warm air to the floor is desired whilst defrosting or defogging, setthe mode to the floor-defrost posi-tion. Before driving, clear all snow and
ice from the windscreen, rear win-
dow, outside rear view mirrors, and
all side windows.
Clear all snow and ice from the bonnet and air inlet in the cowl grill
to improve heater and defrosterefficiency and to reduce the proba-
bility of fogging up the inside of thewindscreen. Manual climate control system
To defog inside windscreen
1. Set the fan speed to the desired
position.
2. Select desired temperature.
3. Press the button.
4. The outside (fresh) air will be selected automatically. If the position is selected, air condition-ing (if equipped) will also be
selected automatically.
If the air conditioning and/or outside(fresh) air position are not selected
automatically, press the correspon-
ding button manually.
WINDSCREEN DEFROSTING AND DEFOGGING
WARNING - Windscreen
heating
Do not use the position dur- ing cooling operation in
extremely humid weather. The
difference between the temper-ature of the outside air and thewindscreen could cause theouter surface of the windscreen
to fog up, causing loss of visi-
bility. In this case, set the mode
selection to the position
and fan speed control to the
lower speed.

To defrost outside windscreen
1. Set the fan speed to the highest
position.
2. Set the temperature to the hottest position.
3. Press the button.
4. The outside (fresh) air and air con- ditioning will be selected automat-
ically. Automatic climate control sys- tem
To defog inside windscreen
1. Set the fan speed to the desired
speed.
2. Select desired temperature.
3. Press the button.
4. The air conditioning will turn on according to the detected ambient
temperature and outside (fresh) airposition will be selected automati-
cally. If the air conditioning is not selected
automatically, adjust the correspon-
ding button manually. If the posi-
tion is selected, lower fan speed is
adjusted to a higher fan speed.

To defrost outside windscreen
1. Set the fan speed to the highestposition.
2. Set the temperature to the hottest (HIGH) position.
3. Press the button.
4. The air conditioning will turn on according to the detected ambient
temperature and outside (fresh)air position will be selected auto-
matically.
Auto defogging system
(Only for automatic climate con- trol system, if equipped)
Auto defogging reduces the possibili-
ty of fogging up the inside of the wind-
screen by automatically sensing themoisture of inside the windscreen. The auto defogging system operateswhen the climate control system is on.

The auto defogging system may not
operate normally, when the outside
temperture is below -15 °C.

Cool box (if equipped)
You can keep beverage cans or other
items cool in the glove box.
1. Turn on the air conditioning. Thetemperature of the cool box will
change according to the tempera-ture of air conditioning.
2. Turn the knob to the open position.
3. When the cool box is not used, turn the knob to the close position.✽✽ NOTICE
If some items in the cool box block
the vent, the cooling effectiveness of
the cool box is reduced.

If you unfasten the seatbelt or open
the driver's door (or engine bonnet)
in auto stop mode, the following will
happen:
 The ISG system will deactivate (the light on the ISG OFF button
will illuminate).
 A message "Auto Start deactivat- ed Start manually" will appear on
the LCD display.
Auto start
To restart the engine from idle
stop mode
With manual transaxle
Press the clutch pedal when the shift lever is in the N (Neutral) posi- tion.
The engine will start and the green AUTO STOP ( ) indicator on the
instrument cluster will go out.
With dual clutch transmission /
Automatic transaxle
Release the brake pedal.
The engine will also restart auto- matically without the driver’s any actions if the following occurs:
- The fan speed of manual climate control system is set above the 3rd position when the air conditioning ison.
- The fan speed of automatic climate control system is set above the 6thposition when the air conditioning ison.
- When a certain amount of time has passed with the climate control sys-tem on.
- When the defroster is on.
- The brake vaccum pressure is low.
- The battery charging status is low.
- The vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h (3 mph). (with manual transaxle)
- The vehicle speed exceeds 2 km/h (1.2 mph). (with dual clutch trans- mission)
- Move the shift gear to the R (Reverse) position or the sports
mode whilst depressing the brake
pedal. (with dual clutch transmission)

Driving your vehicle
Remember, your vehicle does notrequire extended warm-up. After
the engine has started, allow the
engine to run for 10 to 20 seconds
prior to placing the vehicle in gear.
In very cold weather, however, give
your engine a slightly longer warm-
up period.
Do not "lug" or "over-rev" the engine. Lugging is driving too slow-ly in too high a gear resulting
engine bucking. If this happens,
shift to a lower gear. Over-revving
is racing the engine beyond its safe
limit. This can be avoided by shift-
ing at the recommended speeds.
Use your air conditioning sparingly. The air conditioning system is
operated by engine power so your
fuel economy is reduced when youuse it.
Open windows at high speeds can reduce fuel economy.
Fuel economy is less in crosswinds and headwinds. To help offset
some of this loss, slow down when
driving in these conditions. Keeping a vehicle in good operating
condition is important both for econ-
omy and safety. We recommend in
general that the vehicle be serviced
by an authorised Kia dealer.
WARNING
- Engine off
during motion
Never turn the engine off to
coast down hills or anytime the
vehicle is in motion. The power
steering and power brakes will
not function properly without
the engine running. Instead,
keep the engine on and down-
shift to an appropriate gear for
engine braking effect. In addi-
tion, turning off the ignition
whilst driving could engage the
steering wheel lock (ifequipped) resulting in loss of
vehicle steering which could
cause serious injury or death.
