The Smart Blind Spot Detection
System detects the front area
through the camera installed on the
upper front windshield and detects
the side/rear areas through radar
sensors.
The Smart Blind Spot Detection
System may activate the Electronic
Stability Control (ESC) in accor-
dance with a colliding possibility with
an approaching vehicle while chang-
ing lanes. It is to lower the colliding
risk or mitigate the colliding damage.Operating conditions
The system enters the ready status,
when the following conditions are
satisfied with the smart blind system
in the ON position:
- Vehicle speed is between 40 mph
and 110 mph (60 km/h and 180
km/h).
- The system detects both of the lane lines.
- An approaching vehicle is detected next to/behind your vehicle.
Activation (with braking perform-
ance)
The Smart Blind Spot Detection
System may apply braking power,
when an approaching vehicle is
detected within a certain distance
next to/behind your vehicle.

It gently applies braking power on the
tire, which is located in the opposite
side of the possibly-colliding point.
The instrument cluster will inform the
driver of the system activation.
The Smart Blind Spot Detection
System is automatically deactivated,
when the vehicle drives a certain dis-
tance away, when the vehicle direc-
tion is changed against the possible-
colliding point, when the steering
wheel is abruptly moved, or when the
brake pedal is depressed.
When the turn signals operate, the
Smart Blind Spot Detection System
operates only once. However, when
the turn signals are turned off, the sys-
tem re-enters the activation conditions.
The driver should drive the vehicle in
the middle of the vehicle lanes to
keep the system in the ready status.
When the vehicle drives too close to
one side of the vehicle lanes, the
system may not properly operate.
In addition, the system may not prop-
erly control your vehicle in accordance
with driving situations. Thus, always
pay close attention to road situations.Warning message
When there is a malfunction with the
Smart Blind Spot Detection System,
warning message ("Smart BSD brak-
ing system malfunction") appears on
LCD display and deactivates the
Smart Blind Spot Detection System.
In this case, we recommend you to
have your vehicle inspected by an
authorized Kia dealer.
Limitations of the system
The driver must be cautious in the
below situations, because the sys-
tem may not detect other vehicles or
objects in certain circumstances.
The vehicle drives on a curvedroad or through a tollgate.
The sensor is polluted with rain, snow, mud, etc.
The rear bumper where the sensor is located is covered with a foreign
object such as a bumper sticker, a
bumper guard, a bike rack, etc.
The rear bumper is damaged, or the sensor is out of the original
default position.
The vehicle height gets lower or higher due to heavy loading in a
trunk, abnormal tire pressure, etc.
The vehicle drives in inclement weather such as heavy rain or snow.
There is a fixed object near the vehicle, such as a guardrail.
A big vehicle is near such as a bus or truck.

A motorcycle or bicycle is near.
A flat trailer is near.
If the vehicle has started at the
same time as the vehicle next to
you and has accelerated.
When the other vehicle passes at a very fast speed.
While changing lanes.
While going down or up a steep road where the height of the lane is
different.
When the other vehicle approach- es very close.
When a trailer or carrier is installed.
When the temperature of the rear bumper is high.
When the sensors are blocked by other vehicles, walls or parking-lot
pillars.
When the detected vehicle also moves back, as your vehicle drives
back.
If there are small objects in the detecting area such as a shopping
cart or a baby stroller. If there is a low height vehicle such
as a sports car.
When other vehicles are close to your vehicle.
The lanes ahead are not visible due to rain, snow, water on the
road, damaged or stained road
surface, or other factors.
The brightness outside changes suddenly such as when entering or
exiting a tunnel.
The brightness outside is too low such as when the headlamps are
not on at night or the vehicle is
going through a tunnel.
It is difficult to distinguish the lane marking from the road surface or
the lane marking is faded or not
clearly marked.
Driving on a steep grade, over a hill, or when driving on a curved
road.
When light coming from a street light or an oncoming vehicle is
reflected on a wet road surface
such as a puddle in the road. The field of view in front is
obstructed by sun glare.
The lanes are incomplete or the area is in a construction zone.
There are more than two lane lines on the road in front of you.
The lane markings are not clearly visible from the road.
The lane width is too wide or too narrow.
The windshield glass is fogged up; a clear view of the road is obstruct-
ed.
There are markings on the road surface that look like a lane line
that is inadvertently being detected
by the camera.
There is a boundary structure in the roadway such as a concrete
barrier that is inadvertently being
detected by the camera.
There is not enough distance between you and the vehicle in
front to be able to detect the lane
line or the vehicle ahead is driving
on the lane line.

The road pavement (or the periph-eral ground) abnormally contains
metallic components (i.e. possibly
due to subway construction).
The brake pedal is depressed.
ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is activated.
The tire pressure is low or a tire is damaged.
The brake is reworked.
The vehicle is driven near a guardrail or near the boundary line
of a road.
The windshield or the camera lens is blocked with dirt or debris.
The vehicle drives on a small- radius curve.
The vehicle drives in the opposite direction from the designated lane
direction.
The lane sensing operation is inter- rupted by another vehicle in front.
The vehicle drives under 40 mph or over 115 mph. The vehicle abruptly changes driv-
ing direction.
The vehicle abruptly enters the next lane.
The vehicle sharply stops.
Temperature is extremely low around the vehicle.
The vehicle severely vibrates while driving over a bumpy road, uneven/
bumpy road, or concrete patch.
The vehicle drives on a slippery surface due to snow, water puddle,
or ice.
The driver is responsible for accu- rate steering.
Do not unnecessarily operate the steering wheel, when the Smart
Blind Spot Detection System is in
operation.
Always pay extreme caution while driving. The Smart Blind Spot
Detection System may not operate
or unnecessarily operate in accor-
dance with your driving situations.

System is not a substitute for
safe driving practices, but a
convenience function only. It is
the responsibility of the driver
to always drive cautiously to
prevent unexpected and sud-
den situations from occurring.
Pay attention to the road condi-
tions at all times.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM (LDWS) (IF EQUIPPED)
This system detects the lane with a
sensor at the front windshield and
notifies you if it detects that your
vehicle leaves the lane. The LDWS does not make the
vehicle change lanes. It is the dri-
ver's responsibility to always check
the road conditions.
If the sensor cannot detect the lane or if the vehicle speed does not
exceed 40 mph (64 km/h), the
LDWS will not be able to notify you
if the vehicle leaves the lane.
If your vehicle has window tint or other types of coating on the front
windshield, the LDWS may not
work properly.
Prevent damage to the LDWS sen- sor from water or any liquid.
Do not remove the LDWS parts and avoid damaging the sensor by
avoiding a strong impacts.
Do not put objects that reflect light on the dash board.
The operation of the LDWS can be affected by several factors (includ-
ing environmental conditions). It is
the responsibility of the driver to
pay attention to the roadway and to
maintain the vehicle in it's lane at
all times.
WARNING - LDWS Alert
The LDWS is only intended to
provide you with information
regarding your vehicle's posi-
tion on the roadway. Upon
receiving an LDWS alert, you
must take the necessary steps
to maintain control of your vehi-
cle. The LDWS does not provide
any steering inputs into the
vehicle for you. It can be dan-
gerous to make a large sudden
steering input in response to an
alert, since that could result in
loss of control.

If the sensor on the front wind-shield is removed and reinstalled
again due to front windshield tint or
other types of coating on it, you are
strongly recommend to take your
vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer
and have the system calibrated.
To operate the LDWS, press the but-
ton with the engine start/stop button in
the ON position. The indicator illumi-
nates white on the cluster. To cancel
the LDWS, press LDWS button again.
The indicator on the cluster will go
off. If the system detects that your vehi-
cle is leaving the lane when the
LDWS is operating and vehicle
speed exceeds 40 mph (64 km/h),
the warning operates as follows:
1. Visual warning
If you leave a lane, the lane you
cross will blink (yellow) and LDWS
indicator will blink green on LCD dur-
ing max 3 seconds.

2. Auditory warning
If you leave the lane, the warning
sound operates for maximum 3 sec-
onds.
The color of symbol will change
depend on the condition of LDWS
system.
- White color : When you activate the
lane departure warn-
ing system by press-
ing the LDWS button,
system operating con-
ditions are not satis-
fied or the sensor does
not detect the lane line
- Green color : When you activate the
lane departure warn-
ing system by press-
ing the LDWS button,
system operating con-
ditions are satisfied
and the sensor detect
the lane line
- Yellow color : when there is a mal- function with the lane
departure warning
system.Warning indicator
When the LDWS is not working prop-
erly, the warning light will illuminate
and the warning message will come
on for a few second. After the mes-
sage disappears, the master warning
light will illuminate.
Take your vehicle to an authorized
Kia dealer and have the system
checked.
Conditions that cause the
LDWS not to operate:
The driver turns on the turn signalor the hazard warning flasher to
change lanes.
Driving on the lane line.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
To change lanes, operate the turn
signal switch then change the lane.

Conditions that cause missed
warnings and false warnings:
The lane is not visible due to snow,rain, debris, puddles or other envi-
ronmental conditions.
The brightness outside changes suddenly such as when
entering/exiting a tunnel.
The headlights are off at night or in a tunnel.
The color of the lane marking from the road is difficult to distinguish.
Driving on a steep grade or a curve.
Light such as street lights, sunlight or oncoming vehicle lights reflect
off of water on the road.
The lens or windshield is obscured by debris.
The sensor cannot detect the lane because of fog, heavy rain or
heavy snow.
The rear view mirror housing has overheated from exposure to direct
sunlight.
The lane is very wide or narrow. The lane line is damaged or indis-
tinct.
The windshield is fogged up by humidity.
Objects in the median or along the side of the road cast shadows over
the lane markings
The sensor cannot distinguish the lane from the road due to the
dust/dirt.
There are other markings similar to lane lines.
There are lane boundaries instead of markings.
The vehicle ahead is very close, obscuring the view of the lane
markings, or the vehicle ahead is
driving over the lane markings.
The vehicle vibrates heavily due to poor road conditions.
The lanes are merging, expanding, or otherwise overlapping
Something reflective is placed on the dashboard. Driving with the sun in front of you.
Driving in areas under construc-
tion.
Lanes are marked by more than two sets of lines.
The windshield is fogged by humid air in the vehicle.
