Theft-alarm stage
The alarm will be activated if any of
the following occurs while the system
is armed.
A front or rear door is opened withoutusing the transmitter (or smart key).
The tailgate is opened without using the transmitter (or smart key).
The engine hood is opened.
The horn will sound and the hazard
warning lights will blink continuously
for approximately 30 seconds. To
turn off the system, unlock the doors
with the transmitter (or smart key). Disarmed stage
The system will be disarmed when:
Transmitter
- The door unlock button is pressed.
Smart key
- The door unlock button is pressed.
- The button of the front outside door
is pressed while carrying the smart
key.
- The tailgate unlock button is pressed.
- The tailgate is opened while carry- ing the smart key. After the doors are unlocked, the
hazard warning lights will blink twiceto indicate that the system is dis-
armed.
After pressing the unlock button, if
any door (or tailgate) is not opened
within 30 seconds, the system will be
rearmed.

NOTICE
Avoid trying to start the engine while the alarm is activated. The
vehicle starting motor is disabled
during the theft-alarm stage.
If the system is not disarmed with
the transmitter, insert the key into
the ignition switch, turn the igni-
tion switch to the ON position and
wait for 30 seconds. Then the sys-
tem will be disarmed. (except

Operating door locks from
outside the vehicle
Turn the key toward the rear of thevehicle to unlock and toward the
front of the vehicle to lock.
If you lock/unlock the driver’s door with a key, all vehicle doors will
lock/unlock automatically.
Doors can also be locked and unlocked with the transmitter. (or
smart key). (if equipped)
Once the doors are unlocked, they may be opened by pulling the door
handle. When closing the door, push the
door by hand. Make sure the doors
are closed securely.
✽✽ NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, door lock and door mechanisms may not
work properly due to freezing con-
ditions.
If the door is locked/unlocked multiple times in rapid succession
with either the vehicle key or door
lock switch, the system may stop
operating temporarily in order to
protect the circuit and prevent
damage to system components.
DOOR LOCKS
WARNING
If you don’t close the door securely, the door may open
again.
Be careful that someone’s body and hands are not
trapped when closing the door.
WARNING
If people must spend a longer
time in the vehicle while it is
very hot or cold outside, there
is rick of injuries or danger to
life. Do not lock the vehicle fromthe outside when there are peo-ple in it.

Operating door locks from
inside the vehicle
With the door lock button
To unlock a door, pull the door lock
button (1) to the “Unlock” position.
The red mark (2) on the button will
be visible.
To lock a door, push the door lock button (1) to the “Lock” position. If
the door is locked properly, the red
mark (2) on the door lock button
will not be visible.
To open a door, pull the door han- dle outward. If the inner door handle of the driver’s
(or front passenger’s) door is pulled
when the door lock button is in the
lock position, the button will unlock
and the door will open. (if equipped)
Front door cannot be locked if the ignition key is in the ignition switch
(or if the smart key is in the vehicle)and the front door is opened.
WARNING - Door lock
malfunction
If a power door lock ever fails to
function while you are in the
vehicle, try one or more of the
following techniques to exit:
Operate the door unlock feature repeatedly (both electronic and
manual) while simultaneously
pulling on the door handle.
Operate the other door locks and handles, front and rear.
Lower a front window and use the key to unlock the door
from outside.
Move to the cargo area and open the tailgate.

Do not frequently repeat opening and closing of doors, or applyexcessive force to a door while the door closer is operating.

With central door lock switch
Operate by pressing the central door
lock switch.
When pressing the front portion (1)of the switch, all vehicle doors will
lock. When pressing the rear portion (2)
of the switch, all vehicle doors will
unlock.
If the key is in the ignition switch (or if the smart key is in the vehicle)
and any door is opened, the doors
will not lock even though the front
portion (1) of the central door lock
switch is pressed.
WARNING - Unlocked
vehicles
Leaving your vehicle unlocked
can invite theft or possible harm
to you or others from someone
hiding in your vehicle while you
are gone. Always remove the
ignition key, engage the parking
brake, close all windows and
lock all doors when leaving
your vehicle unattended.
WARNING - Unattended
children
An enclosed vehicle can become
extremely hot, causing death or
severe injury to unattended chil-dren or animals who cannot
escape the vehicle. Furthermore,
children might operate features
of the vehicle that could injure
them, or they could encounter
other harm, possibly from some-
one gaining entry to the vehicle.
Never leave children or animals
unattended in your vehicle.
WARNING - Doors
The doors should always be fully closed and locked while
the vehicle is in motion to pre-vent accidental opening of the
door. Locked doors will also
discourage potential intruders
when the vehicle stops or
slows down.
Be careful when opening doors and watch for vehicles,
motorcycles, bicycles or
pedestrians approaching the
vehicle in the path of the door.Opening a door when some-
thing is approaching can

Door lock/unlock features
Impact sensing door unlock system
All doors will automatically unlock when an impact causes the air bags
to deploy.
However, automatic door unlock will
not operate if the side airbag is notequipped.

An authorized Kia dealer can acti-
vate or deactivate some auto door
lock/unlock features as follows;
Auto door unlock by using the dri- ver's door lock button
Speed sensing auto door lock
Auto door lock/unlock by shifting the transmission shift lever out of
P (Park) or into P (Park
Auto door unlock when the igni- tion key is removed from the igni-
tion switch (for smart key, when
the ENGINE START/STOP button
is changed to the OFF position)
If you want to activate or deactivate
some door lock/unlock feature, we
recommend that you consult an
authorized Kia dealer.
Child-protector rear door lock
The child safety lock is provided to
help prevent children from acciden-tally opening the rear doors from
inside the vehicle. The rear door
safety locks should be used whenev-
er children are in the vehicle.
1. Open the rear door.
2. Push the child safety lock located on the rear edge of the door to the
lock ( ) position. When the child
safety lock is in the lock position,
the rear door will not open eventhough the inner door handle ispulled. 3. Close the rear door.
To open the rear door, pull the out- side door handle (1) .
Even though the doors may be
unlocked, the rear door will not open
by pulling the inner door handle (2)
until the rear door child safety lock is
unlocked ( ).

- Rear door
locks
If children accidentally open the
rear doors while the vehicle is
in motion, they could fall out
and be severely injured or
killed. To prevent children from
opening the rear doors from the
inside, the rear door safety
locks should be used whenever
children are in the vehicle.

Opening the tailgate
The tailgate is locked or unlockedwhen all doors are locked or
unlocked with the key, transmitter
(or smart key) or central door lock
switch.
Only the tailgate is unlocked if the tailgate unlock button on the trans-
mitter (or smart key) is pressed.Once the tailgate is opened and
then closed, the tailgate is locked
automatically.
If unlocked, the tailgate can be opened by pressing the handle
switch and then pulling the handle
up.✽✽ NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, door lock
and door mechanisms may not work
properly due to freezing conditions.Closing the tailgate
To close the tailgate, lower and push
down the tailgate to the first detent.
Then it will close and lock automati-
cally. Make sure that the tailgate issecurely latched.
✽✽ NOTICE
You do not have to close the tail- gate with excessive strength. The
tailgate will close and lock auto-
matically if it is pulled down to the
first detent.
The tailgate may not close and lock automatically even though
the tailgate was lowered down to
the first detent if you close and
open the tailgate repeatedly sever-
al times. If this happens, close the
tailgate manually and wait for
about 10 seconds to operate nor-
mally.

The tailgate swings upward. Make sure no objects or people
are near the rear of the vehicle
when opening the tailgate.
CAUTION
Make certain that you close the tailgate before driving yourvehicle. Possible damage may occur to the tailgate lift cylin-ders and attached hardware ifthe tailgate is not closed prior todriving.

Power windows
The ignition switch must be in the ON
position for power windows to oper-
ate.
Each door has a power window
switch that controls the door's win-
dow. The driver has a power window
lock button which can block the oper-
ation of passenger windows. The
power windows can be operated for
approximately 30 seconds after the
ignition key is removed or turned to
the ACC or LOCK position. However,if the front doors are opened, the
power windows cannot be operated
even within the 30 second period.
The driver’s door has a master power
window switch that controls all the
windows in the vehicle.✽✽NOTICE
While driving with the rear windows
down or with the sunroof (if
equipped) in an open (or partially
open position), your vehicle may
demonstrate a wind buffeting or
pulsation noise. This noise is a nor-
mal occurrence and can be reduced
or eliminated by taking the follow-
ing actions. If the noise occurs with
one or both of the rear windows
down, partially lower both front
windows approximately one inch.
If you experience the noise with the
sunroof open, slightly reduce the
size of the sunroof opening. Window opening and closing
To open or close a window, press
down or pull up the front portion of
the corresponding switch to the firstdetent position (5).

Power window lock button
The driver can disable the power
window switches on the rear passen-
gers’ doors by pressing the power
window lock switch to the lock posi-tion (pressed).
When the power window lock switch is pressed :
The driver’s master control can
operate the front passenger’s power
window and the rear passengers’
power windows.
The front passenger’s control can operate the front passenger’s
power window. The rear passengers’ control can-
not operate the rear passengers’
power window.
If the window cannot be close because
it is blocked by objects, remove the
objects and close the window.
CAUTION
To prevent possible damageto the power window system,do not open or close two win- dows or more at the sametime. This will also ensure thelongevity of the fuse.
Never try to operate the main switch on the driver's doorand the individual door win-dow switch in opposite direc-tions at the same time. If this is done, the window will stop andcannot be opened or closed.

NEVER leave any child unat- tended in the vehicle. Even
very young children may inad-
vertently cause the vehicle to
move, entangle themselves in
the windows, or otherwise
injure themselves or others.
Always double check to make sure all arms, hands, headand other obstructions are
safely out of the way before
closing a window.
Do not allow children play with the power windows. Keep the
driver’s door power window
lock button in the LOCK posi-
tion (pressed). Serious injury
can result from unintentional
window operation by the child.
Do not extend heads or any limbs outside the window
while the vehicle is in motion.
WARNING - Windows
NEVER leave the keys in your vehicle with unsupervised
children, when the engine isrunning.
