Features
HFL can display newly received text or e-mail messages as well as 20 of the most 
recently received messages on a linked cell phone. Each received message can be 
read aloud and replied to using a fixed common phrase.
1.A pop-up appears and notifies you of a new 
text message or e-mail.
2. Select  Read to listen to the message.
u The text message or e-mail is displayed. 
The system automatica lly starts reading 
out the message.
3. To discontinue the mess age read-out, select 
Stop .
■Receiving a Text Message/E-mail1Receiving a Text Message/E-mail
The system does not display any received messages 
while you are driving. You can only hear them read 
aloud.
The system can only receive massages that are sent a 
text (SMS) messages. The  message sent using the 
data services will not be displayed in the list.
With some phones, you may be able to display up to 
20 most recent text  messages and e-mails.
State or local laws may limit your use of the HFL text 
message/e-mail feature. Only use the text message/e-mail 
feature when conditions a llow you to do so safely.
When you receive a text message or e-mail for the 
first time since the phone is  paired to HFL, you are 
asked to turn the  New Message Notification  
setting to On .

Compass*
When you turn the ignition switch to ON (w*1, the compass self-calibrates, and the 
compass display appears.
Compass Calibration
If the compass indicates the wrong direction, or the  CAL indicator blinks, you need 
to manually calibrate the system.
1.Turn the ignition switch to ON

2. On the top screen of any audio source, 
press and hold   for five seconds.
u The display swit ches to the Compass 
settings screen.
3. Select  Calibration .
4. Select  Calibration Start .
5. Drive the vehicle slow ly in two circles.
u The compass starts to show a direction 
after the calibration. The  CAL indicator 
goes off.

Compass operation can be affected under the 
following conditions:
•Driving near power lines or stations
•Crossing a bridge•Passing a large vehicle, or  driving near a large 
object that can cause a magnetic disturbance
•When accessories such as  antennas and roof racks 
are mounted by magnets

Calibrate the compass in an open area.
While setting the compass, select   to cancel the 
setting mode and return to the previous screen.

Compass Zone Selection

u The display shows the current zone 
number the system is set to.
4. Select the zone number of your area (See 
Zone Map).

1 Compass Zone Selection
The zone selection is  done to compensate the 
variation between magneti c north and true north.
If the calibration  starts while the audio system is in 
use, the display returns to normal after the calibration 
is completed.

■Hill start assist system
Hill start assist keeps the brake engaged br iefly to help prevent the vehicle from 
rolling on inclines as you move your fo ot from the brake pedal to the accelerator.
Depress the clutch pedal, and shift to on e of the forward gears when facing uphill, 
or 
(R when facing downhill, then release the brake pedal.
Move the shift lever to 
(D or (S when facing uphill, or (R when facing downhill, 
then release the brake pedal.
1 Starting the Engine
Do not hold the key in START 
(e for more than 10 
seconds.
•If the engine does not start right away, wait for at 
least 30 seconds before trying again.
•If the engine starts, but  then immediately stops, 
wait at least 30 seconds  before repeating step 3 
while gently depressing  the accelerator pedal.
Release the accelerator pedal once the engine 
starts.
The immobilizer system pr otects your vehicle from 
theft. If an improperly code d key (or other device) is 
used, the engine's fuel  system is disabled.

Hill start assist may not  prevent the vehicle from 
rolling downhill on a very stee p or slippery slope, and 
does not operate on small inclines.
Hill start assist is not a replacement for the parking
