Operating your vehicle in heavy snowfallor extreme rain conditions may allowexcessive amounts of snow or water intothe air intake system. This could restrict airflow and cause the engine to lose poweror shut down.
After installing a new air filter element, youmust reset the gauge by pressing the resetbutton.
After operating your vehicle during in heavysnowfall or extreme rain, do the following:
•Snow: At the earliest opportunity, openthe hood and clear any snow and icefrom the air filter housing inlet andreset the air filter restriction gauge.
•Extreme rain: The air filter elementdries out after approximately 15–30minutes of driving at highway speeds. At the earliest opportunity, open thehood and reset the air filter restrictiongauge.

FILTERS - 6.7L DIESEL
WARNING
Do not dispose of fuel in thehousehold refuse or the publicsewage system. Use an authorizedwaste disposal facility.
Your vehicle has two fuel filters. The firstfilter mounts on top of the engine on theleft-hand side. The second filter is insidethe diesel fuel conditioner module. Themodule is mounted between the outboardside of the fuel tank and the frame rail.
Note:The module is at the front of the fueltank or at the front of the aft-axle fuel tankon some models.
Regular fuel filter changes are animportant part of engine maintenance;failing to keep with the scheduledmaintenance could lead to engineperformance issues and fuel injectionsystem damage. See ScheduledMaintenance (page 573).
Use only recommended service partsconforming to specifications. SeeMotorcraft Parts (page 418).
Note:Using fuel that has high levels ofimpurities may require more frequent filterreplacements than the service intervalspecifies.

•Use a spray with a 40° wide sprayangle pattern.
•Keep the nozzle at a 12 in (305 mm)distance and 90° angle to yourvehicle's surface.
Note:Holding the pressure washer nozzleat an angle to the vehicle's surface maydamage graphics and cause the edges topeel away from the vehicle's surface.
Underbody
Flush the complete underside of yourvehicle frequently. Keep body and doordrain holes free of debris or foreignmaterial.
Under Hood
For removing black rubber marks fromunder the hood we recommend MotorcraftWheel and Tire Cleaner or Motorcraft Bugand Tar Remover.
WAXING
Regular waxing is necessary to protect yourcar's paint from the elements. Werecommend that you wash and wax thepainted surface once or twice a year.
When washing and waxing, park yourvehicle in a shaded area out of directsunlight. Always wash your vehicle beforeapplying wax.
•Use a quality wax that does not containabrasives.
•Follow the manufacturer’s instructionsto apply and remove the wax.
•Apply a small amount of wax in aback-and-forth motion, not in circles.
•Do not allow wax to come in contactwith any non-body (low-gloss black)colored trim. The wax will discolor orstain the parts over time.
•Roof racks.
•Bumpers.
•Grained door handles.
•Side moldings.
•Mirror housings.
•Windshield cowl area.
•Do not apply wax to glass areas.
•After waxing, your car's paint shouldfeel smooth, and be free of streaks andsmudges.
CLEANING THE ENGINE
Engines are more efficient when they areclean because grease and dirt buildup keepthe engine warmer than normal.
When washing:
•Take care when using a power washerto clean the engine. The high-pressurefluid could penetrate the sealed partsand cause damage.
•Do not spray a hot engine with coldwater to avoid cracking the engineblock or other engine components.
•Spray Motorcraft Engine Shampoo andDegreaser on all parts that requirecleaning and pressure rinse clean. InCanada, use Motorcraft EngineShampoo.

WARNINGS
Failure to maintain the functionalholes, in the tailpipe section of theexhaust, clean and free of debris orforeign material may result in the holesbecoming blocked or plugged. Do notmodify or remove the tail-pipe section.Blocked or plugged holes orremoval/modification of the system couldresult in elevated exhaust gastemperatures which may result invehicle/property damage or personalinjury.
The normal operating temperatureof the exhaust system is very high.Never work around or attempt torepair any part of the exhaust system untilit has cooled. Use special care whenworking around the diesel oxidationcatalytic converter and/or the dieselparticulate filter (DPF). The dieseloxidation catalytic converter and/or theDPF heats up to a high temperature afteronly a short period of engine operation andcan stay hot even after the engine is turnedoff. Failure to follow these instructions mayresult in personal injury.
The visible holes in the exhaust tip and theholes under the shield just inboard of theright rear tire(s) are functional. The holesneed to be kept clear of mud/debris orforeign material to maintain properfunction of the exhaust system. Clean andremove debris or foreign material if presentas needed. Spraying with a hose duringregular washing of vehicle should helpkeep holes clean and clear of debris orforeign material.
CLEANING THE WINDOWS AND
WIPER BLADES
