Bonnet
Opening
F Pull the interior bonnet release lever A,
located at the bottom of the door aperture. F
P
ush the exterior safety catch B to the left
and raise the bonnet.
F
U
nclip the stay C from its housing on the
back of the bonnet.
F
F
ix the stay in the notch to hold the bonnet
open.
The location of the interior bonnet
release lever prevents opening of
the bonnet while the front left door is
closed. Do not open the bonnet in high winds.
When the engine is hot, handle the
exterior safety catch and the bonnet
stay with care (risk of burns).
Before doing anything under the
bonnet, deactivate the Stop & Start
system to avoid any risk of injury
resulting from an automatic change to
START mode.
Closing
F Take the stay out of the support notch.
F
C lip the stay in its housing on the back of
the bonnet.
F
L
ower the bonnet and release it at the end
of its travel.
F
P
ull on the bonnet to check that it is
secured correctly.
The cooling fan may star t after switching
off the engine: take care with ar ticles and
clothing that might be caught by the fan
blades.
Because of the presence of electrical
equipment under the bonnet, it is
recommended that exposure to water
(rain, washing,
...) be limited.

Particle filter (Diesel)
According to your version of instrument panel, the start of
saturation of the particle emissions filter is indicated by:
- temporary illumination of the service warning lamp,
accompanied by an audible signal
and a message that there is a risk
of blockage of the particle filter.
-

filter warning lamp, accompanied
by an audible signal and a
message that there is a risk of
blockage of the particle filter,
or
As soon as the traffic conditions permit,
regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at
least 40 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp
goes off.
If the warning lamp stays on, there is a lack of
additive.
Checking components
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Oil filter
Unless other wise indicated, check these components in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule and according to your engine.
Other wise, have them checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Refer to the manufacturer's
service schedule for details of the
replacement intervals for these
components.
Replace the oil filter each time the
engine oil is changed.
Refer to the manufacturer's
service schedule for details of
the replacement interval for this
component.
Versions equipped with Stop &
Start are fitted with a 12 V lead-acid
battery of specific technology and
specification.
Its replacement should be carried
out only by a CITROËN dealer or a
qualified workshop.
12 V battery
For more information and the precautions to
take before starting work on the 12 V batter y
,
refer to the corresponding section.
The battery does not require any maintenance. However, check regularly that the
terminals are correctly tightened
(versions without quick release terminals)
and that the connections are clean.
Depending on the environment (e.g. dusty
atmosphere) and the use of the vehicle
(e.g. city driving), replace them twice as often
if necessary .
A clogged passenger compartment filter may
have an adverse effect on the per formance
of the air conditioning system and generate
undesirable odours.

Never store bottles of AdBlue® in your
vehicle.
Recommendations on storage
AdBlue® freezes at about -11°C and
deteriorates above 25°C. It is recommended
that bottles be stored in a cool area and
protected from direct sunlight .
Under these conditions, the fluid can be kept
for at least a year .
If the additive has frozen, it can be used once it
has completely thawed out. Before starting the top-up procedure, ensure
that the vehicle is parked on a flat and level
sur face.
Procedure
F Switch off the ignition and remove the
key, or if your vehicle has one, press the
START/STOP button to switch off the
engine.
F
R
aise the boot floor for access to the
AdBlue
® tank. S
ecure the boot floor by attaching its cord
to the hook on the parcel shelf support.
F
U

its tab.
F
I
nsert your fingers into the aperture and
turn the blue cap a 6
th of a turn anti-
clockwise.
F
C

Never dispose of AdBlue® additive
bottles in the household waste. Place
them in a special container provided
this purpose or take them to your

tank is completely empty - which
is confirmed by the alert displays
and the impossibility of starting the
engine
- you must add at least 3.8 litres

immediately with cold water or wipe
with a damp cloth.
If the additive has crystallised, clean it
off using a sponge and hot water.
Important:
in the event of a top-
up after a breakdown because of
a lack of additive , you must wait
around 5 minutes before switching
on the ignition, without opening the
driver's door, locking the vehicle,
introducing the key into the ignition
switch, or introducing the key of the
"Keyless Entr y and Star ting" system
into the passenger compartment .

Starting using another battery
Never try to start the engine by
connecting a battery charger.
Never use a 24 V or higher battery
b o o s t e r.
First check that the slave battery has a
nominal voltage of 12 V and a capacity
at least equal to that of the discharged
battery.
The two vehicles must not be in contact
with each other.
Switch off the electrical consumers on
both vehicles (audio system, wipers,
lighting, ...).
Ensure that the jump lead cables do
not pass close to moving parts of the
engine (cooling fan, belts, ...).
Do not disconnect the (+) terminal when
the engine is running.
When your vehicle's battery is discharged, the
engine can be started using a slave battery
(external or on another vehicle) and jump lead
cables or a battery booster.
F

If you envisage charging your vehicle's
battery yourself, use only a charger
compatible with lead-acid batteries of a
nominal voltage of 12 V.
If this label is present, it is essential
to use only a 12 V charger, to avoid
causing irreversible damage to the
electrical components related to the
Stop & Start system.Never try to charge a frozen battery.
If the battery has been frozen, have
it checked by a CITROËN dealer or
a qualified workshop, who will check
that the internal components have not
been damaged and the casing is not
cracked, which could cause a leak of
toxic and corrosive acid.
Charging the battery using a battery charger
For optimum service life of the battery, it is
essential to maintain an adequate state of
charge.
In some circumstances it may be necessary to
charge the battery:
-
i
f you use your vehicle essentially for short
journeys,
-
i
f the vehicle is to be taken off the road for
several weeks.
Contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
workshop. It is not necessary to disconnect the
battery. Follow the instructions for use provided
by the manufacturer of the charger.
Never reverse polarities.

condition.
F

one, on the (+) terminal.
F
C

DS4_en_Chap08_en-cas-de-panne_ed01-2016
In order to maintain an adequate state
of charge for starting the engine, it is
recommended that the battery be disconnected
if the vehicle is taken out of service for a long
period.
Before disconnecting the battery:
F
c
lose all openings (doors, boot, windows),
F
s
witch off all electrical consumers (audio
system, wipers, lighting, etc.),
F
s
witch off the ignition and wait for
four
m
inutes.
At the battery, it is only necessary to
disconnect the (+) terminal.
Disconnecting the battery
The Stop & Start system may not be
operational during the trip following the
first engine start.
In this case, the system will only be
available again after a continuous
period of immobilisation of the vehicle,
a period which depends on the exterior
temperature and the state of charge of
the battery (up to about 8 hours).
F
Ra
ise the lever A fully.
F
R
efit the open clamp B on the (+) terminal.
F
P
ush the clamp B fully down.
F
L
ower the lever A to lock the clamp B
.
Do not force the lever as locking
will not be possible if the clamp is
not positioned correctly; start the
procedure again.
Following reconnection of the
battery
After reconnecting the battery, switch on the
ignition and wait 1 minute before starting to
allow initialisation of the electronic systems.
However, if minor problems persist following
this operation, contact a CITROËN dealer or a
qualified workshop.
Referring to the corresponding section, you
must yourself initialise or reset certain systems,
such as:
-
t
he one-touch electric windows,
-
t
he date and time,
-
t
he settings of the audio system or of the
satellite navigation system.
