pickups. Trailer pin box extensionsand sliding fifth-wheel hitchassemblies can help this condition.There should be at least 15 cm (6 in)of clearance between the top of thepickup box and the bottom of thetrailer shelf that extends overthe box.
Safety Chains
Always attach chains between thevehicle and the trailer. Cross thesafety chains under the tongue ofthe trailer to help prevent the tonguefrom contacting the road if itbecomes separated from the hitch.Instructions about safety chainsmay be provided by the hitchmanufacturer or by the trailermanufacturer. If the trailer beingtowed weighs up to 2 271 kg(5,000 lb) with a factory-installedstep bumper, safety chains may beattached to the attaching points onthe bumper; otherwise, safetychains should be attached to holeson the trailer hitch platform. Alwaysleave just enough slack so thecombination can turn. Never allowsafety chains to drag on the ground.
Trailer Brakes
Aloadedtrailerthatweighsmorethan 900 kg (2,000 lb) must beequipped with its own brake system,with brakes working on all axles.Trailer braking equipmentconforming to Canadian StandardsAssociation (CSA) requirementCAN3-D313, or its equivalent, isrecommended.
State and local regulations may alsorequire the trailer to have its ownbraking system if loaded above acertain threshold.
Be sure to read and follow theinstructions for the trailer brakes sothey are installed, adjusted, andmaintained properly.
Do not tap into the vehicle'shydraulic brake system.
Auxiliary Battery
The auxiliary battery provision canbe used to supply electrical powerto additional equipment that may beadded, such as a slide-in camper.If equipped, this relay will be on thedriver side of the vehicle, next to theunderhood electrical center.
Be sure to follow the properinstallation instructions included withany electrical equipment that isinstalled.
Caution
Leaving electrical equipment on
for extended periods will drain the
battery. Always turn off electrical
equipment when not in use and
do not use equipment that
exceeds the maximum amperage
rating of 30 amps for the auxiliary
battery provision.
Trailer Wiring Harness
The vehicle is equipped with one ofthe following wiring harnesses fortowing a trailer or hauling a slide-incamper.
Basic Trailer Wiring
All regular, double cab, and crewcab pickups have a seven-wiretrailer towing harness.

Adding a Snow Plow or
Similar Equipment
Caution
Do not exceed 72 km/h (45 mph)
with a snow plow mounted to the
vehicle. The vehicle could
overheat and be damaged.
Before installing a snow plow on thevehicle, follow these guidelines:
Caution
If the vehicle does not have the
snow plow prep package, RPO
VYU, adding a plow can damage
the vehicle, and the repairs would
not be covered by the vehicle
warranty. Unless the vehicle was
built to carry a snow plow, do not
add one to the vehicle. If the
vehicle has RPO VYU, then the
payload the vehicle can carry will
be reduced when a snow plow is
installed. The vehicle can be

For example, adding a 318 kg(700 lb) snow plow actually addsmore than 318 kg (700 lb) to thefront axle. Using the formula, if thesnow plow is 122 cm (4 ft) in front ofthe front axle and the wheelbase is305 cm (10 ft), then:W=318kg(700lb)A=122cm(4ft)W.B. = 305 cm (10 ft)
(W x (A + W.B.)/W.B. =(318 x (122 + 305))/305 = 445 kg(980 lb)
This means if the front axle reservecapacity is more than 445 kg(980 lb), the snow plow could beadded without exceeding thefront GAWR.
Heavier equipment can be added onthe front of the vehicle if less cargoor fewer passengers are carried,or by positioning cargo toward therear. This reduces the load on thefront. However, the front GAWR,rear GAWR, and Gross VehicleWeight Rating (GVWR) must neverbe exceeded.
{Warning
On some vehicles that have
certain front mounted equipment,
such as a snow plow, it may be
possible to load the front axle to
the front Gross Axle Weight
Rating (GAWR) but not have
enough weight on the rear axle to
have proper braking performance.
If the brakes cannot work
properly, the vehice could crash.
Always follow the snow plow
manufacturer or installer's
recommendation for rear ballast
to ensure a proper front and rear
weight distribution ratio.
Maintaining a proper front and
rear weight distribution ratio is
necessary to provide proper
braking performance.
To t a l v e h i c l e r e s e r v e c a p a c i t y i s t h edifference between the GVWR andthe weight of the truck with full fueland passengers. It is the amount ofweight that can be added to thevehicle before reaching the GVWR.Reserve capacity numbers are
intended as a guide when selectingthe amount of equipment or cargothe truck can carry. If unsure of thevehicle's front, rear, or total weight,go to a weigh station and weigh thevehicle. Your dealer can also helpwith this.

(HID) Lighting

The High Intensity Discharge
(HID) lighting system operates at
averyhighvoltage.Ifyoutryto
service any of the system
components, you could be
seriously injured. Have your
dealer or a qualified technician
service them.
After an HID headlamp bulb hasbeen replaced, the beam might be aslightly different shade than it wasoriginally. This is normal.
LED Lighting

2. If replacing a bulb on thepassenger side, remove theengine air cleaner.

3.1. Remove the auxiliarybattery retainer bolt (2)and battery retainer (1).
3.2. Reposition the auxiliarybattery (3) so that thefront turn signal accessport is visible.
4. Turn the bulb socketcounterclockwise to remove itfrom the headlamp assemblyand pull it straight out.

5. Remove the bulb by pulling itstraight out of the bulb socket.
6. Install new bulb into bulbsocket.
7. Turn the bulb socket clockwiseto install it in the headlampassembly.
8. 2500/3500 Series vehiclesonly, driver side:
8.1. Reposition the auxiliarybattery (3).
8.2. Install the auxiliarybattery retainer (1) andbattery retainer bolt (3).
9. If replacing a bulb on thepassenger side, reinstall theengine air cleaner.
10. Close the hood.
Fog Lamps
To r e p l a c e t h e f r o n t f o g l a m p b u l b :
1. Locate the fog lamp under thefront bumper.
2. Disconnect the electricalconnector from the fog lampbulb assembly by pressing theconnector release.
3. Remove the bulb from thehousing by squeezing the tworelease tabs and pulling itstraight out of the assembly.

12. Try to start the vehicle that hadthe dead battery. If it will notstart after a few tries, itprobably needs service.
Caution
If the jumper cables are
connected or removed in the
wrong order, electrical shorting
may occur and damage the
vehicle. The repairs would not be
covered by the vehicle warranty.
Always connect and remove the
jumper cables in the correct order,
making sure that the cables do
not touch each other or other
metal.
Jumper Cable Removal
Reverse the sequence exactly whenremoving the jumper cables.
After starting the disabled vehicleand removing the jumper cables,allow it to idle for several minutes.
Towing the Vehicle
Caution
Incorrectly towing a disabled
vehicle may cause damage. The
damage would not be covered by
the vehicle warranty.
Do not lash or hook to
suspension components. Use the
proper straps around the tires to
secure the vehicle.
Use only a flatbed tow truck fortowing a disabled vehicle. Neveruse a sling type lift or damage willoccur. Use ramps to help reduceapproach angles if necessary.Atowedvehicleshouldhaveitsdrive wheels off the ground.
Consult a professional towingservice if the disabled vehicle mustbe towed.
