2. Press the button for thepassenger side headrest at thetop of the seatback and pull up.
3. Insert the headrest posts intothe holes on the front of thepassenger side seat cushion toinstall the seat cushionextension. The notches on theposts should face thepassenger side of the vehicle.Try to move the headrest tomake sure it is locked in place.
4. If the child restraintmanufacturer recommends thatthe top tether be attached,adjust the top tether to its fulllength and attach the top tetherhook to the anchor. Refer tothe child restraint instructionsand the following:
Route the top tether (1) throughthe loop (2) at the top of theseatback directly behind thechild restraint and attach thetop tether hook to the top tetherloop at the top of the seatbackfor the opposite rear seatingposition (3).
5. Attach and tighten the lowerattachments to the loweranchors. If the child restraintdoes not have lowerattachments, secure the childrestraint with the safety beltsand the top tether (ifappropriate). 6. Tighten the top tether. Thechild restraint instructions willshow you how.
7. Before placing a child in thechild restraint, make sure it issecurely held in place. Tocheck, grasp the child restraintat the LATCH path and attempt

to move it side to side andback and forth. There shouldbe no more than 2.5 cm (1 in) ofmovement for properinstallation.
8. Always reinstall the headrestbefore the seating position isused by another occupant. See“Head Restraint/HeadrestRemoval and Reinstallation”atthe end of this section.

system has turned off the right
front passenger frontal airbag, no
system is fail-safe. No one can
guarantee that an airbag will not
deploy under some unusual

rear-facing child restraint should
not be installed in your vehicle,
even if the airbag is off.

The vehicle has a front outboardpassenger frontal airbag and apassenger sensing system. Thepassenger sensing system isdesigned to turn off the front
passenger frontal airbag when aninfant in a rear-facing infant seat orasmallchildinaforward-facingchild restraint or booster seat isdetected. 1. Put the child restraint on theright front passenger seat.
2. If the child restraintmanufacturer's instructionsrecommend that the top tetherbe attached, attach and tightenthe top tether hook to the toptether anchor.
2.1. Route the top tetheraccording to your childrestraint instructions andthe following instructions:

If you are using a singletether, raise the headrestor head restraint androute the tether under theheadrest or head restraintand in between theheadrest or head restraintposts.
If you are using a dualtether, route the tetheraround the headrest orhead restraint.
2.2. Attach the top tether hookto the metal wire on thelower inboard side of thecab wall directly behindthe front passenger seat.
2.3. Tighten the top tether.
3. Before placing a child in thechild restraint, make sure it issecurely held in place. Tocheck, grasp the child restraintat the LATCH path and attemptto move it side to side and
back and forth. There shouldbe no more than 2.5 cm (1 in) ofmovement for properinstallation.

1. Partially fold the seat forward.
2. Press the button on the side ofthe head restraint post at thetop of the seatback and pull upon the head restraint.
3. Store the head restraint in asecure place.
4. Always reinstall the headrestraint before the seatingposition is used by anotheroccupant.

1. If installed as a seat cushionextension, first press bothbuttons on the front of the seatcushion to remove theheadrest.
2. To reinstall the headrest, insertthe posts into the holes in thetop of the seatback. Thenotches on the posts shouldface the driver side of thevehicle.
3. Push the headrest down. Pullup on the headrest to makesure it is locked in place.
Replacing LATCH System
Parts After a Crash

system in the vehicle. A damaged
LATCH system may not properly
secure the child restraint,
resulting in serious injury or even
death in a crash. To help make
sure the LATCH system is
working properly after a crash,
see your dealer to have the
system inspected and any
necessary replacements made as
soon as possible.
If the vehicle has the LATCH systemand it was being used during acrash, new LATCH system partsmay be needed.
New parts and repairs may benecessary even if the LATCHsystem was not being used at thetime of the crash.

position. To properly fit the
rear-facing child restraint, the
front seatback will need to be
tilted forward which will not allow

The passenger could be seriously
injured or killed in a sudden stop
or crash.
Aboosterseatmaybeusedintheleft rear seating position if the baseof the booster seat fits on the seatcushion and does not extend pastthe front edge of the seat cushion.
If the booster seat extends past thefront of the seat cushion, it shouldbe used in the right rear seatingposition with the seat cushionextension.
When using the lap-shoulder belt tosecure the child restraint in thisposition, follow the instructions thatcame with the child restraint and thefollowing instructions:
1. Always install the seat cushionextension in the right rear seatposition when installing aforward-facing or rear-facingchild restraint. Also use theseat cushion extension forbooster seats that extend pastthe front edge of the seatcushion.
2. Press the button on thepassenger side headrest andpull up.

3. Insert the headrest posts intothe holes on the front of thepassenger side seat cushion toinstall the seat cushionextension. The notches on thepost should face the passengerside of the vehicle. Try to movethe headrest to make sure it islocked in place.
4. Put the child restraint onthe seat.
When installing a rear-facingchild restraint, move the frontseat all the way forward and tiltthe seatback forward toproperly install the childrestraint per the child restraintmanufacturer instructions. SeeSeat Adjustment046andReclining Seatbacks047.When a rear-facing childrestraint is installed properly,the front passenger seatcannot be used.
5. If the child restraintmanufacturer recommendsusing a top tether, adjust thetop tether to its full length andattach it to the top tether
anchor. Refer to theinstructions that came with thechild restraint and seeLowerAnchors and Tethers forChildren (LATCH System)077.
6. Pick up the latch plate, and runthe lap and shoulder portionsof the vehicle's safety beltthrough or around the restraint.The child restraint instructionswill show you how.
Tilt the latch plate to adjust thebelt if needed.
7. Push the latch plate into thebuckle until it clicks.
Position the release button onthe buckle, away from the childrestraint system, so that thesafety belt could be quicklyunbuckled if necessary.

8. Pull the shoulder belt all theway out of the retractor to setthe lock. When the retractorlock is set, the belt can betightened but not pulled out ofthe retractor.
9. To tighten the belt, push downon the child restraint, pull theshoulder portion of the belt totighten the lap portion of thebelt, and feed the shoulder beltback into the retractor. Wheninstalling a forward-facing childrestraint, it may be helpful touse your knee to push down onthe child restraint as youtighten the belt.
Try to pull the belt out of theretractor to make sure theretractor is locked. If theretractor is not locked, repeatSteps 6 and 7.
10. Tighten the top tether. SeeLower Anchors and Tethers forChildren (LATCH System)077.
11 . B e f o r e p l a c i n g a c h i l d i n t h echild restraint, make sure it issecurely held in place. Tocheck, grasp the child restraintat the safety belt path andattempt to move it side to sideand back and forth. When thechild restraint is properlyinstalled, there should be nomore than 2.5 cm (1 in) ofmovement.
To r e m o v e t h e c h i l d r e s t r a i n t ,unbuckle the vehicle’ssafetybeltand let it return to the stowedposition. If the top tether is attachedto a top tether anchor, disconnect it.Reinstall the headrest in theseatback before the seating positionis used.
