2. Press and slide the batterydown toward the pocket of thetransmitter in the direction ofthe key ring. Do not use ametal object.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Insert the new battery, positiveside facing up. Replace with aCR2032 or equivalent battery.
5. Push together the transmitterback cover top side first, andthen the bottom toward thekey ring.
Remote Vehicle Start
If equipped, the engine can bestarted from outside of the vehicle.The climate controls and rearwindow defogger may alsocome on.
If the vehicle has heated seats andthe feature is turned on in vehiclepersonalization, the heated seatswill turn on during colder outsidetemperatures and will shut off whenthe key is turned to ON/RUN. SeeHeated Front Seats048.
Laws in some communities mayrestrict the use of remote starters.Check local regulations for anyrequirements on remote starting ofvehicles.
Do not use remote start if thevehicle is low on fuel.
The vehicle cannot be remotestarted if:
.The key is in the ignition.
.The hood is not closed.
.There is an emission controlsystem malfunction and themalfunction indicator lamp is on.
The engine will turn off during aremote vehicle start if:
.The coolant temperature getstoo high.
.The oil pressure gets low.
The RKE transmitter range may beless while the vehicle is running.
Other conditions can affect theperformance of the transmitter. SeeRemote Keyless Entry (RKE)System030orVehiclePersonalization0139.
Starting the Engine Using RemoteStart
1. Press and releaseQ.
2. Immediately press and hold/
until the turn signal lamps flashor for at least four seconds.
When the vehicle starts, theparking lamps will turn on. Thedoors will be locked and theclimate control system maycome on.

If the On Indicator Is Lit for a
Child Restraint
If a child restraint has been installedand the on indicator is lit:
1. Turn the vehicle off.
2. Remove the child restraint fromthe vehicle.
3. Remove any additional itemsfrom the seat such as blankets,cushions, seat covers, seatheaters, or seat massagers.
4. Reinstall the child restraintfollowing the directionsprovided by the child restraintmanufacturer and refer toSecuring Child Restraints (Withthe Safety Belt in the RearSeat)091orSecuring ChildRestraints (With the Safety Beltin the Front Seat)096.
5. If, after reinstalling the childrestraint and restarting thevehicle, the on indicator is stilllit, turn the vehicle off. Thenslightly recline the vehicleseatback and adjust the seatcushion, if adjustable, to makesure that the vehicle seatbackis not pushing the childrestraint into the seat cushion.Also make sure the childrestraint is not trapped underthe vehicle head restraint.If this happens, adjust the headrestraint. SeeHeadRestraints045.
6. Restart the vehicle.
If the on indicator is still lit, securethe child in the child restraint in arear seat position in the vehicle, andcheck with your dealer.
If no rear seat is available, do notinstall a child restraint in this vehicleand check with your dealer.
If the Off Indicator Is Lit for an
Adult-Sized Occupant
If a person of adult-size is sitting inthe front outboard passenger seat,but the off indicator is lit, it could bebecause that person is not sittingproperly in the seat or that the childrestraint locking feature is engaged.Use the following steps to allow thesystem to detect that person andenable the front outboard passengerfrontal airbag:
1. Turn the vehicle off.

2. Remove any additional materialfrom the seat, such asblankets, cushions, seatcovers, seat heaters, or seatmassagers.
3. Place the seatback in the fullyupright position.
4. Have the person sit upright inthe seat, centered on the seatcushion, with legs comfortablyextended.
5. If the shoulder portion of thebelt is pulled out all the way,the child restraint lockingfeature will be engaged. Thismay unintentionally cause thepassenger sensing system toturn the airbag off for someadult-sized occupants. If thishappens, unbuckle the belt, letthe belt go back all the way,and then buckle the belt againwithout pulling the belt out allthe way.
6. Restart the vehicle and havethe person remain in thisposition for two tothree minutes after the onindicator is lit.
{Warning
If the front outboard passenger
airbag is turned off for an
adult-sized occupant, the airbag
will not be able to inflate and help
protect that person in a crash,
resulting in an increased risk of
serious injury or even death. An
adult-sized occupant should not
ride in the front outboard
passenger seat, if the passenger
airbag off indicator is lit.
Additional Factors Affecting
System Operation
Safety belts help keep thepassenger in position on the seatduring vehicle maneuvers andbraking, which helps the passengersensing system maintain thepassenger airbag status. See“Safety Belts”and“Child Restraints”in the Index for additionalinformation about the importance ofproper restraint use.
Athicklayerofadditionalmaterial,such as a blanket or cushion,or aftermarket equipment such asseat covers, seat heaters, and seatmassagers can affect how well thepassenger sensing systemoperates. We recommend that younot use seat covers or otheraftermarket equipment except whenapproved by GM for your specificvehicle. SeeAdding Equipment tothe Airbag-Equipped Vehicle068for more information aboutmodifications that can affect howthe system operates.
The on indicator may be lit if anobject, such as a briefcase,handbag, grocery bag, laptop,or other electronic device, is put onan unoccupied seat. If this is notdesired remove the object fromthe seat.

wrapped around a child’sneck.
If the shoulder belt is locked and
tightened around a child’sneck,
the only way to loosen the belt is
to cut it.
Buckle any unused safety belts
behind the child restraint so
children cannot reach them. Pull
the shoulder belt all the way out
of the retractor to set the lock,
and tighten the belt behind the
child restraint after the child
restraint has been installed.
Caution
Do not let the LATCH
attachments rub against the
vehicle’ssafetybelts.Thismay
damage these parts. If necessary,
move buckled safety belts to
avoid rubbing the LATCH
attachments.

Do not fold the rear seatback
when the seat is occupied. Do not
fold the empty rear seat with a
safety belt buckled. This could
damage the safety belt or the
seat. Unbuckle and return the
safety belt to its stowed position,
before folding the seat.

Crew Cab
1. When installing a rear-facingchild restraint, it may benecessary to move the frontseat forward to properly installper the child restraintmanufacturer instructions.SeeSeat Adjustment046orPower Seat Adjustment046.
2. For rear outboard seatingpositions, if the head restraintinterferes with the properinstallation of the childrestraint, the head restraint
may be removed. See“HeadRestraint/Headrest Removaland Reinstallation”at the endof this section.
3. If the child restraintmanufacturer's instructionsrecommend that the top tetherbe attached, attach the toptether to the top tether anchor.Refer to the child restraintinstructions and the followingsteps:
3.1. Release and pull the rearseatback forward toaccess the top tetheranchors. SeeRearSeats049.
3.2. Put the child restraint onthe seat.
3.3. Route the top tetheraccording to your childrestraint instructions andthe following instructions:

If you are using a singletether, raise the headrestor head restraint androute the tether under theheadrest or head restraintand in between theheadrest or head restraintposts.
If you are using a dualtether, route the tetheraround the headrest orhead restraint.
2.2. Attach the top tether hookto the metal wire on thelower inboard side of thecab wall directly behindthe front passenger seat.
2.3. Tighten the top tether.
3. Before placing a child in thechild restraint, make sure it issecurely held in place. Tocheck, grasp the child restraintat the LATCH path and attemptto move it side to side and
back and forth. There shouldbe no more than 2.5 cm (1 in) ofmovement for properinstallation.

3. If removing the headrest toinstall as a seat cushionextension for a forward-facingor rearward-facing childrestraint in the right rearseating position, see theinstructions in“Securing aChild Restraint with the LATCHSystem”earlier in this section.
4. Always reinstall the headrestbefore the seating position isused by another occupant.
To r e i n s t a l l t h e h e a d r e s t :
1. If installed as a seat cushionextension, first press bothbuttons on the front of the seatcushion to remove theheadrest.
2. To reinstall the headrest, insertthe posts into the holes in thetop of the seatback. Thenotches on the posts shouldface the driver side of thevehicle.
3. Push the headrest down. Pullup on the headrest to makesure it is locked in place.
Replacing LATCH System
Parts After a Crash

system in the vehicle. A damaged
LATCH system may not properly
secure the child restraint,
resulting in serious injury or even
death in a crash. To help make
sure the LATCH system is
working properly after a crash,
see your dealer to have the
system inspected and any
necessary replacements made as
soon as possible.
If the vehicle has the LATCH systemand it was being used during acrash, new LATCH system partsmay be needed.
New parts and repairs may benecessary even if the LATCHsystem was not being used at thetime of the crash.

Crew Cab
When using the lap-shoulder belt tosecure the child restraint in thisposition, follow the instructions thatcame with the child restraint and thefollowing instructions:
1. If the head restraint interfereswith the proper installation ofthe child restraint, the headrestraint may be removed. See“Head Restraint/HeadrestRemoval and Reinstallation”underLower Anchors andTe t h e r s f o r C h i l d r e n ( L AT C HSystem)077.
2. If the child restraintmanufacturer recommendsusing a top tether, adjust thetop tether to its full length andattach it to the top tetheranchor. Refer to theinstructions that came with thechild restraint and seeLowerAnchors and Tethers forChildren (LATCH System)077.
3. Put the child restraint onthe seat.
4. Pick up the latch plate, and runthe lap and shoulder portionsof the vehicle's safety beltthrough or around the restraint.The child restraint instructionswill show you how.
5. Push the latch plate into thebuckle until it clicks.
Position the release button onthe buckle, away from the childrestraint system, so that thesafety belt could be quicklyunbuckled if necessary.
6. Pull the shoulder belt all theway out of the retractor to setthe lock. When the retractorlock is set, the belt can betightened but not pulled out ofthe retractor.

7. To tighten the belt, push downon the child restraint, pull theshoulder portion of the belt totighten the lap portion of thebelt, and feed the shoulder beltback into the retractor. Wheninstalling a forward-facing childrestraint, it may be helpful touse your knee to push down onthe child restraint as youtighten the belt.
Try to pull the belt out of theretractor to make sure theretractor is locked. If theretractor is not locked, repeatSteps 6 and 7.
8. Tighten the top tether. SeeLower Anchors and Tethers forChildren (LATCH System)077.
9. Before placing a child in thechild restraint, make sure it issecurely held in place. Tocheck, grasp the child restraintat the safety belt path andattempt to move it side to sideand back and forth. When thechild restraint is properlyinstalled, there should be nomore than 2.5 cm (1 in) ofmovement.
To r e m o v e t h e c h i l d r e s t r a i n t ,unbuckle the vehicle’ssafetybeltand let it return to the stowedposition. If the top tether is attachedto a top tether anchor, disconnect it.If the head restraint was removed,reinstall it before the seatingposition is used. Securing Child Restraints
(With the Safety Belt in
the Front Seat)
This vehicle has airbags. A rearseat is a safer place to secure aforward-facing child restraint. SeeWhere to Put the Restraint075.
In addition, the vehicle has apassenger sensing system which isdesigned to turn off the frontoutboard passenger's frontal airbagunder certain conditions. SeePassenger Sensing System064andPassenger Airbag StatusIndicator011 7for more information,including important safetyinformation.
Never put a rear-facing child seat inthe front. This is because the risk tothe rear-facing child is so great,if the airbag deploys.
