Initial Drive Information
This section provides a brief overview
about some of the important features
that may or may not be on your
specific vehicle.
For more detailed information, refer to
each of the features which can be
found later in this owner manual.
Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter may be used to lock and
unlock the doors from up to 60 m
(197 ft) away from the vehicle.
Q:Press to lock all doors.
K:Press to unlock the driver door or
all doors, depending on the vehicle
personalization settings. See “Remote
Lock, Unlock, Start ”under Vehicle
Personalization 0144.
7:Press and release one time to
initiate vehicle locator. Press and hold
for three seconds to sound the panic
alarm. Press again or start the vehicle
to cancel the panic alarm.
X: Press twice quickly to release the
trunk.
Press the key release button near the
bottom of the transmitter to remove
the key. The key can be used for the
driver door.

Remote Vehicle Start
The engine can be started from
outside of the vehicle.
Starting the Vehicle
1. Press and releaseQon the RKE
transmitter.
2. Immediately press and hold
/
for at least four seconds or until
the turn signal lamps flash.
Start the vehicle normally after
entering.
When the vehicle starts, the parking
lamps will turn on.
Remote start can be extended.
Canceling a Remote Start
To cancel a remote start, do one of
the following:
. Press and hold
/until the
parking lamps turn off.
. Turn on the hazard warning
flashers.
. Turn the vehicle on and then off.

Q:Press to lock all doors. The turn
signal indicators may flash and/or the
horn may sound on second press to
indicate locking. See Vehicle
Personalization 0144.
If the driver door is open when
Qis
pressed, all doors lock and the driver
door will immediately unlock,
if enabled. See Vehicle Personalization
0 144. If the passenger door is open
when
Qis pressed, all doors lock.
Pressing
Qmay also arm the alarm
system. See Vehicle Alarm System 039. If equipped with auto mirror folding,
pressing and holding
Qfor
one second will fold the mirrors. The
auto mirror folding feature will not
operate unless it is enabled. See
Vehicle Personalization 0144.
K:Press to unlock the driver door or
all doors depending on the
personalization settings. See Vehicle
Personalization 0144. When remotely
unlocking the vehicle at night, the
headlamps and back-up lamps will
come on for about 30 seconds to light
your approach to the vehicle. The turn
signal indicators may flash to indicate
unlocking. See Vehicle
Personalization 0144.
Pressing
Kwill disarm the alarm
system. See Vehicle Alarm System 039.
If equipped with auto mirror folding,
pressing and holding
Kfor
one second will unfold the mirrors.
The auto mirror folding feature will
not operate unless it is enabled. See
Vehicle Personalization 0144.
On some models, pressing and
holding
Kwill open all of the
windows. Windows will not operate unless remote window operation is
enabled. See
Vehicle
Personalization 0144.
/:If equipped, press and releaseQand then immediately press and hold
/for at least four seconds to start
the engine from outside the vehicle
using the RKE transmitter. See Remote
Vehicle Start 031.
7:Press and release to initiate
vehicle locator. The exterior lamps
flash and the horn chirps three times.
Press and hold
7for three seconds to
sound the panic alarm. The horn
sounds and the turn signal lamps
flash for 30 seconds, or until
7is
pressed again or the vehicle is started.
X: Press twice quickly to release the
trunk.
Keyless Access Operation
The Keyless Access system allows the
door and trunk to be locked and
unlocked without pressing the RKE
transmitter button. The RKE
transmitter must be within 1 m (3 ft)

Doors
Trunk
{Warning
Exhaust gases can enter the vehicle
if it is driven with the liftgate or
trunk/hatch open, or with any
objects that pass through the seal
between the body and the trunk/
hatch or liftgate. Engine exhaust
contains carbon monoxide (CO)
which cannot be seen or smelled.
It can cause unconsciousness and
even death.
If the vehicle must be driven with
the liftgate or trunk/hatch open:. Close all of the windows.
. Fully open the air outlets on
or under the instrument
panel.
. Adjust the climate control
system to a setting that
brings in only outside air and

set the fan speed to the
highest setting. See “Climate
Control Systems” in the Index.
. If the vehicle is equipped with
a power liftgate, disable the
power liftgate function.
See Engine Exhaust 0182.
Trunk Lock Release
To open the trunk:
.
Press
|from inside the vehicle. .
Press
Xtwice quickly on the
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter.
. Press the touch pad on the trunk
above the license plate.
With the Keyless Access system the
RKE transmitter must be within 1 m
(3 ft) of the trunk for it to be
recognized. See Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System Operation 027.

Use the handle to assist in closing the
trunk. Do not use the handle as a
tie-down.
If the vehicle is ever without power,
the trunk area can still be accessed by
folding the rear seat:1. Fold down the rear seatback. See Rear Seats 060.
2. Reach inward through the opening to locate the emergency
trunk release handle.
3. Pull the release handle to open the trunk.
Emergency Trunk Release
Handle
Caution
Do not use the emergency trunk
release handle as a tie-down or
anchor point when securing items
in the trunk as it could damage the
handle. If equipped, there is a
glow-in-the-dark emergency trunk
release handle on the trunk lid. This
handle will glow following exposure to
light. Pull the release handle to open
the trunk from the inside.
After use, return to the stored
position.

weather. Insert the refueling
nozzle slowly and wait for any
hiss noise to stop prior to
beginning to flow fuel.
If equipped, the fuel door is locked
when the vehicle doors are locked.
Press
Kon the RKE transmitter to
unlock. To open the fuel door, push
and release the rearward center edge
of the door. The vehicle has a capless refueling
system and does not have a fuel cap.
The filling nozzle must be fully
inserted and latched prior to starting
fuel flow.
{Warning
Overfilling the fuel tank by more
than three clicks of a standard fill
nozzle may cause:
. Vehicle performance issues,
including engine stalling and
damage to the fuel system.
. Fuel spills.
. Potential fuel fires.
Be careful not to spill fuel. Wait a few
seconds before removing the nozzle.
After initial shutoff, do not partially
remove the nozzle to add more fuel as
this will result in fuel spillage. Clean
fuel from painted surfaces as soon as
possible. See Exterior Care0278.
{Warning
If a fire starts while you are
refueling, do not remove the nozzle.
Shut off the flow of fuel by shutting
off the pump or by notifying the
station attendant. Leave the area
immediately.
Filling the Tank with a Portable
Gas Can
If the vehicle runs out of fuel and
must be filled from a portable gas can:
1. Locate the capless funnel adapter from under the carpet in
the trunk.
2. Insert and latch the funnel into the capless fuel system.
