Bulb
replacement General
information
Observe the safety information, refer to page 212.
Turn signal, brake light, tail light and reversing light: 21-watt bulb, P21W.
Upper brake light: 21-watt bulb, H21W.
Removing
the
tail
lamp
1.Open tailgate.2.Open the two covers on the tail lamp.3.With the handle of the screwdriver from the onboard vehicle tool kit, loosen and rejmove the nuts on the two fasteners. Makesure that the nuts do not drop into the
bumper area. In addition to the two outer
fasteners, there is another inner fastener.4.Hold the grip rail in one hand, arrow 1, and
brace against the outside with your other hand, arrow 2. Carefully pry out the tail
lamp, arrow 3, until the rubber mount rej
leases from the inner fastener.5.Remove the plug from the bulb holder.
Replacing
the
bulbs
1.Loosen the six fasteners on the tail lamp, arrows 1, and remove the tail lamp from the
lamp holder, arrow 2.2.Press the nonworking bulb gently into the socket, turn counterclockwise and remove.Seite 217Replacing

3.Proceed in the reverse order to insert thenew bulb and attach the bulb holder to the
tail lamp. Make sure that the bulb holder engages in all fasteners.
Installing
the
tail
lamp
1.Connect the plug to the bulb holder.2.Insert the tail lamp straight in and press itin, arrow 1, until the rubber mount latchesin the inner fastener. Make sure when inj
serting the tail lamp that the rubber lip, arj
row 2, on the top side of the tail lamp does
not fold over. Screw on the two nuts, arj row 3, and close covers.

These lights are made using LED technology.
In the case of a malfunction, contact a dealerss service center or another qualified service cenj
ter or repair shop.
Vehicle
battery Maintenance
The battery is maintenance-free.
The added amount of acid is sufficient for the
service life of the battery.
More information about the battery can be rej quested from a dealerss service center or anjother qualified service center or repair shop.
Replacing
the
vehicle
battery
General
information
The manufacturer of your vehicle recommends that you have a dealerss service center or anjother qualified service center or repair shop
register the vehicle battery to the vehicle after
the battery has been replaced. Once the batj tery has been registered again, all comfort feaj
tures will be available without restriction and
any Check Control messages displayed which
relate to comfort features will disappear.

information NOTE
Vehicle batteries that are not compatible
can damage vehicle systems and impair vehij
cle functions. There is a risk of personal and
property damage. Only vehicle batteries that are compatible with your vehicle type should
be installed in your vehicle. Information on
compatible vehicle batteries is available at your
dealerss service center.'

Battery chargers for the vehicle battery
can work with high voltages and currents,
which means that the 12 volt on-board netj work can be overloaded or damaged. There is
a risk of property damage. Only connect batj tery chargers for the vehicle battery to the
starting aid terminals in the engine compartj
ment.'

3.Remove the cover from one side, arrow 3.4.Press the four fasteners and remove the
cover.
Attaching
the
covers
1.When attaching the cover, make sure that all four fasteners are engaged.2.Attach the cover under the rubber lip and
then thread it between the bars.3.Press down on the holder and tighten the
three screws.
In

cargo
area
Fold up the cargo floor panel.
Information on the fuse types and locations is
found on a separate sheet.

In case of an emergency, an Emergency Rej
quest can be made through the system.

information Only press the SOS button in an emergency.
For technical reasons, the Emergency Request cannot be guaranteed under unfavorable conj
ditions.

Under certain conditions, such as if the airbags
trigger, an Emergency Request is automatij
cally initiated immediately after a severe accij
dent. Automatic Collision Notification is not afj
fected by pressing the SOS button.

manually
1.Press the cover briefly to open it.2.Press the SOS button until the LED at the button lights up green.'yThe LED is illuminated green when an
Emergency Request has been initiated.
If a cancel prompt appears on the Control
Display, the Emergency Request can be
aborted.
If the situation allows, wait in your vehicle
until the voice connection has been estabj

mine the necessary rescue measures. E.g., the current position of the vehicle, if it canbe established.
Even if you can no longer hear the BMW Response Center through the loudspeakj
ers, the BMW Response Center may still

the storage compartment.

If the battery is discharged, the engine can be started using the battery of another vehicle

Starting
the
engineNever use spray fluids to start the engine.1.Start the engine of the assisting vehicle
and let it run for several minutes at an inj creased idle speed.2.Start the engine of the vehicle that is to bestarted in the usual way.
If the first starting attempt is not successj
ful, wait a few minutes before making anj
other attempt in order to allow the disj
charged battery to recharge.3.Let both engines run for several minutes.4.Disconnect the jumper cables in the rej verse order.
Check the battery and recharge, if needed.
Tow-starting
and
towing Safety
information WARNING
Due to system limits, individual functions
can malfunction during tow-starting/towing with the Intelligent Safety systems activated,
for instance approach control warning with
braking function. There is a risk of an accident.
Switch all Intelligent Safety systems off prior to
tow-starting/towing.'
