Emergency assistance
_& WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured while
changing a wheel if you do not follow these
safety precautions :
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance
off the road. Turn off the engine, turn the
emergency flashers on and use other warn­
ing devices to alert other motorists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic.
- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly slipp ing off the jack,
always fully set the parking brake and block
the wheel diagona lly opposite the wheel be­
ing changed . When one front wheel is lifted
off the ground, placing the Automatic
Transmission in P (Park) will
not prevent the
vehicle from moving.
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the luggage com­
partment

Wheel hub covers*
.. Insert the hook (from the vehicle tool kit) into
the hole on the whee l hub cover

.. Remove the wheel hub cover.

.. Slide the plastic clip (from the vehicle tool kit)
onto the cap until it engages

Loosening the wheel bolts

.. Slide the wheel wrench (from the vehicle tool
kit) all the way onto the wheel bolt .
.,. Turn the wheel bolt approximately one turn to
the left -arrow- . To reach the required torque,
hold the end of the wheel w rench. If the wheel
bolt will not loosen, press carefu lly on the
wheel wrenc h with your foot. Hold on to the ve­
hicle securely while during this and make sure
your stance is stable.
&_ WARNING
To reduce the risk of an accident, only loosen
the wheel bolts gently (one turn) before rais­
ing the vehicle with the vehicle jack* .

... Place the vehicle jack* (vehicle tool kit) on a
firm surface . Use a flat, stable support if neces­
sary . On a slippery surface such as tile, you
sho uld use a non-slip pad (such as a rubber
mat) ¢,&,
... Find the mar king on the sill that is closest to
the tire that will be changed¢

... Turn the vehicle jack* located under the mount­
ing point on the s ill to raise the jack until its
arm

nated mounting point .
... Align the vehicle jack* so the arm
(D engages in
the des ignated mounting point in the side sill
and the base @lies f lat on the gro und. The
base @must be directly under the mounting
point (!) .
... Cont inue raising the vehicle jack* until the
wheel lifts off the ground slightly .
A WARNING
- Make sure the vehicle jack* is stable. There
is a r isk of injury when the ground is slick or

soft, because the vehicle jack* could slide or
sink.
- On ly raise your vehicle wit h the vehicle jack*
provided by the factory. If you use a veh icle
jack designed for another vehicle, your veh i­
cle can slide and cause injury.
- Position the veh icle jack * only at the desig­
nated mounting points on the side sill and
alig n the jack . Otherw ise, the vehicle jack*
could slip and cause an injury if it does not
have suffic ient hold on the veh icle.
- To reduce the r isk of an accident, never start
the engine when the vehicle is ra ised.
- To reduce the r isk of injury, support the ve­
h icle securely with suitable stands if work is
to be pe rformed underneath the vehicle.
- To help prevent injury to yourse lf and your
passengers:
- Do not raise the vehi cle until you are sure
the jack is securely engaged.
- Passengers m ust not remain in the vehicle
whe n it is jacked up.
- Make s ure that p assengers wa it in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic .
- Make s ure jack position is correct, adjust
as necessary and then continue to ra ise
the jack.
- If work has to be done under t he ve hicle,
ensure that it is safely supported on suita ­
ble stands -risk of in jury!
- Never sta rt the engine when the vehicle is
on the jack - risk of accident!

Do not lift the vehi cle by the s ill. Pos it ion the
vehicle jack* only at the designate d mo unt ing
po ints on the side sill . Othe rw ise, your veh icle
will be damaged .

-If you notice that the wheel bolts are cor­
roded and diffic ult to turn w hile changing a
tire , they should be rep laced before you
check the tightening torque .
- Drive at reduced speed until you have the tightening torques checked .
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the information c::> page 262 if you
are go ing to use a spare tire which is different
from the tires on your vehicle .
After you change a tire:
- Che ck the tire pre ssure on the spare immedi ­
atel y after in stallation .
- Hav e the wheel bolt tightening torque
che cked with a to rque w rench a s soon a s pos·
s ible b y your author ized Audi deal er o r a
qualified servi ce stat ion.
- With ste el and allo y wh eel rim s, the wheel
b o lts a re co rrectly tightened at a torque of
90 ft lb (120 Nm) .
- If you n otice that the wh eel bolt s are corroded
and d iff icult to turn while cha nging a t ire ,
the y shou ld be re pla ced befo re you ch ec k t he
t igh ten ing to rque .
- Replac e the flat tire w ith a new one and h ave
i t in stalled on you r vehicle as soon as possi ­
bl e. Remount th e wheel co ver .
Until th en, drive with e xtra care a nd at reduc ed
speeds.

A WARNING
--If you are going to equip your vehicle with
tires or r ims which differ from those which
were factory installed, then be sure to read
the information
r::!:> page 262 .
-Always make sure the damaged wheel or
even a flat tire and the jack and tool kit are
p roperly sec ured i n the luggage compart­
men t and ar e not loose in the passenger
compartment.
- I n an accident or sudden maneuver they
could fly forward, injuri ng a nyone in the ve­
h icle.
- Always s to re damaged wheel, jack and tools
securely in the luggage compartment. Oth­
erwise, in an acciden t or sudden maneuver
they co uld fly forward, causing injury to pas­
sengers in the veh icle .

necessary by an authorized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Service Facility as soon as possible.
There are some restric tions on the use of the
compact spare tire. The compact spare tire has
been designed specifically for your type of vehi­
cle. Do not replace it with the spare tire from an­
other type of vehicle .
Remo ving th e spar e tire
.,. Turn the handle~ fig. 211 @counter-clock-
wise.
.,. Remove the spare tire.
Remov ing th e vehicle jac k
.,. Lift up the cover on the right side of the lug­
gage compartment and remove the vehicle
jack.
Snow chain s
For technical reasons, the use of snow cha ins on
the compact spare t ire is not permitted.
If you have to drive with snow chains and a front
tire fails, mount the spare wheel in place of a
rear tire. Install the snow cha ins on the rear tire
that you removed, and install that in place of the
front tire that failed .

-After installing a spare t ire, the tire p res­
s u re must be checked as soon as poss ible.

-If the spare tire is more than 6 years o ld,
use it only in an emergency and with ex ­
treme caution and carefu l driving.
- T he spare tire is intended on ly for tempora­
ry and short-term use. It shou ld be replaced
as soon as possible with the norma l wheel
and tire.
- After mounting the compact spare tire, the
tire pressure must be checked as soon as
poss ible. The tire pressure of the compact
spare tire must be 61 psi (420 kPA); other­
wise, you risk hav ing an accident.
- Do not drive faster than SO mph (80 km/h).
You risk hav ing an accident.

- Avoid full-throttle acceleration, heavy brak­
ing, and fast cornering. You r isk having an
accident.
- Never drive using more than one spare
wheel and tire. You r isk having an accident.
- Normal summer or winter tires must not be
mounted on the compact spare wheel rim.
- For technical reasons, the use of tire chains
on the spare tire is not permitted. If it is
necessary to drive w ith tire chains, the spare
wheel must be mounted on the front axle in
the event of a flat in a rear t ire. The newly
ava ilable front wheel must then be installed
in place of the rear wheel with the flat tire.
Installing the tire chain before mounting
the wheel and tire is recommended.
- Loose items in the passenger compartment
can cause se rious personal injury during
ha rd bra king or in an accident. Never store
the inflatable spare tire or jack and tools in
the passenger compartment .
- Normal summer or winter tires must not be
mounted on the compact spare wheel rim .
