Unlocking and locking the vehicle can only be
done at the front doors . The remote contro l key
cannot be more than approx imately 5 ft ( 1.5 m)
away from the door handle. It makes no differ­
ence whether the remote control key is in you r
jacket pocket, purse or br iefcase .
If you hold the door handle while locking, this
can impair the locking function .
The door cannot be opened for a br ief period di­
rect ly after locking it. This allows you the oppor­
tunity to check that the driver's door is locked .
The settings in the Infotainment system deter­
mine if the enti re vehicle or only one of the doors
is unlocked when unlocking the vehicle
¢page 38.

If your vehicle is left stand ing for a long peri­
od of time, note the following:
-The proximity sensor switches off after a
few days to save energy. You then have to pull once on the door handle to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open it.
-The energy management system gradually turns off unnecessary convenience functions
to prevent the vehicle battery from draining
and to maintain the vehicle's ab ility to start
for as long as possib le . You may not be able
to unlock your vehicle using the convenience
key.

switch, the following applies:
-Opening the door and the luggage compart­
ment lid from the
outside is not possible (for
security reasons, such as when stopped at a
light) .
- The L ED in the central locking sw itch turns on
when all doors are closed and locked.
- Front doors: you can open the doors individual­ ly from the inside by pulling the door handle.
- Rear doors*: pull on the door handle
once to
unlock the door . Pull on the door handle

to open the door .
- In the event of a crash with airbag deployment, the doors unlock automatically to allow access
to the vehicle.

Audi adaptive light
Appl ies to: veh icles w ith Audi adaptive light
Adaptive light provides bette r visibili ty when i t is
dark by adapting the ligh ts to the road condi tions
based on speed, such as on e xpressways, rura l
roads, at intersections, and in curves. The adap­
t ive lights only function when the light switch is
in the AUTO* posit ion and the all weather lights
are switched off .
A WARNING
-
- Automatic headlights * are on ly intended to
assis t the dr iver. They do not relieve t he
d river of respons ibi lity to check the head­
lights and to turn them on manua lly based
on the cur re nt ligh t and v isibility condition s.
For e xamp le, fog cannot be detected by the
light senso rs . So always switch on the low
beams under these weather con dit ions an d
when dr iv ing in the dark

- The rear fog lights sho uld only be turned on
in accordance wit h traffic regulations , to
prevent glare for traffic behind your vehicle.
- If the ve hicle battery has bee n discharging
for a wh ile, the park ing light may switch
off
automatically. A lways make su re your vehi­
cle is parked and adequate ly lit acco rdi ng to
the laws . Avo id us ing the parking ligh ts for
seve ral hou rs .
- Always observe legal regulations when us­
i n g the lighting systems described.
@ Tips
- The lig ht sensor for the automat ic head­
lights* is in the rearview mirror mount. Do
not p lace any st ickers in this area on t he
w indshield .
- Only the front headlights turn on when the
daytime running lig hts are sw itched on *. In
veh icles in ce rtain markets, the tai l lights
w ill also tu rn on.
- In cool or damp weathe r, the inside of the
head lights, t urn sign als and tail lights can
fog ove r due to t he tempera ture diffe rence
b etween the ins ide an d ou tside. They wi ll
clear shortly a fter swi tching them on. This
does not affect the service life of the light­
ing .

Warm and cold
driver is transferred to the front passenger's
side . This applies a t emperature change to the
front passenger's side .

Using the regulator 8£?, you can manually adjust
the volume of air generated by the blower to your
p reference . The blower shou ld always run at a
low setting to prevent the windows from fogging
and to ensure a continuous exchange of air inside
the vehicle . To have the blower regulated auto­
mat ically , press the AUTO button.
~/ :,0/ ~ Air distribution
The air distribution can adjusted with the but­
tons. To have the air distribution regulated auto­ mat ically, press the AUTO button.
The round air vents in the cockpit are adjustable
qpage 73.
To keep the front s ide windows from fogging up
in damp weathe r, we recommend opening the
side air vents and tilting them to the side .
Foot vents are located under the front seats and
adjustable vents on the end of the center console
to heat the rear of the vehicle .
::!_ Defrosting
The windsh ield and s ide windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as qu ickly as possible .
The max imum amount of air flows ma inly from
the vents below the windshield. Recirculation
mode switches off. The temperature shou ld be
set at +72°F (22°() o r higher. The temperature is
controlled automatica lly. In the
;Ix setting, the
A/C cooling mode switches on automatically , d e­
pending on the outside air temperature.
The AUTO button switches the defroster off.
cE) Recirculation mode
The recirculation mode can be turned on manua l­
ly or automatically*.

tion needs to be activated in the Infotainment

The air
quality sensor that is designed for diesel and
gasoline exhaust automatically sw itches the re­
circulation mode on or off depending on the
level of pollutants in the outside air.
In rec irculat ion mode, the air inside the vehicle is
c ir culated and filtered. This prevents the unfil­
tered air outs ide the veh icle from entering the
vehicle inte rior. Switching rec irculation mode on
whe n driving through a tunnel or when sitting in
traffic is recommended

Pressing the~ button, AUTO or the ;fx button
switches recircula tion mode off.
T he system switches to recirculation mode when
driv ing in reverse when the engine is cold .
SP. Rear window defogger
If the rear window defogger is activated when
the igni tion is switched on, the battery manage­
ment determines based on the battery charge if
i t is possible to turn on . Otherwise, the rear w in ­
dow defogger functions with the engine running
and switches off automatically after approxi­
mately 10 -20 minutes, depending on the out­
side temperature .
To prevent the rear window defogger from
switching off automat ica lly, press and hold the
!fP. button for more than two seconds. This re­
mains stored up to approximate ly 15 minutes af­
te r turning off the ignition.
J Seat heating*
Pressing the J button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest setting (level 3) . The LEDs indi­
cate the temperat ure level. To reduce the tem­
perature , press the button again. T o switc h the
seat heating off, press the button repeatedly un­
ti l the LED turns off .
After approximately 10 minutes, the seat heating
a utomat ically switches from level 3 to level 2.

Driving

For up to 10 minutes after stopping the en ­
gine, the rad iator fan may tu rn on again auto­
matically or it may continue to run (even if
the is ignit ion sw itched off) due to the follow­
ing reasons :
- The coolant temperat ure is increasing due
to trapped heat.
- If the engine is warm and the engine com­ partment also heats up from strong sun ­
li ght .

Starting the engine
when there is a
malfunction

Start/Stop system
Description
Applies to: vehicles with Start/Stop system
The Start/Stop system can help increase fuel
economy and reduce CO2 emissions.
In Start/Stop mode, the engine shuts off auto ­
matically when the vehicle is stopped, such as at
a traffic light. The ignition remains switched on
during this stop phase. The engine w ill restart
automat ically when needed.
The Start/Stop system is automat ically act ivated
as soon as the ignition is switched on.
Basic requirements for Start/Stop mode
-The driver's door must be closed .
- The driver's seat belt much be fastened.
- The hood must be closed.
- The vehicle must have driven faster than
2 mph
(3 km/h) since the last time it stopped.
