II Dri ve sys tem: malfunction! P lea se conta ct
Servic e
There is an engine control malfunction .
Drive s low ly to an authorized Audi dealer or au
thor ized Audi Service Fac ility to have the engine
checked .
W Engine control (diesel engine)
Applies to: vehicles w ith diesel engines
The engine is preheat ing if the El indicato r light
turns on when the ign ition is switched on.
If the indicator light does not turn on or bli nks
while driving, there is an eng ine control malfunc
tion .
Immediately drive slowly to an authori zed Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Serv ice Facility to have
the malfunction corrected.
o Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The malfunction indicato r lamp (M IL) is part of
the On-Board Diagnostic System (080 II). The
¢..ij c;ymbol turns on when the ign ition is switched
on and t urns off again on ce the eng ine is started
and r unning at a steady id le speed . This indicates
that the MIL is functioning correctly.
The indica to r li ght turns on if there is a malfunc
tion in the engine electronics . See an a uthorized
Aud i dea ler o r authorized Audi Serv ice Facility to
have the ma lfunction corrected . For additiona l
information, see
c> page 21.
The indicator light can also turn on if the fuel fi ll
er cap is not closed correctly ~

Applies to: veh icles w ith diesel engine and diesel particulate
filter
II Particul ate filt er: malfunction! See own er' s

Drive app roximate ly 15 m inutes at a minimum
speed of 37 mph (60 km/h) with the se lector lev
er in S, and ma intain an engine speed of approxi
mately 2,000 RPM. The result ing temperature in
crease can burn off the soot in the filter. The ind i
cator light will turn off when the cleaning has completed successfully .
If the indicator light does
not turn off, drive im
med iate ly to an authorized Audi dealer or author
i zed Audi Se rvice Facility to have the malfunct ion
corrected .
A WARNING
Always adapt your speed to the cur rent
weather, road and traffic cond it ions. You
should never d isobey traffic laws in order to
follow dr iving recommendations.
(D Tips
Fo r additional informat ion on the d iesel pa r
ticulate filte r, see

!?>i Engine speed limitation
II) Engine spe ed maximum XXXX RPM
The eng ine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the inst rument cl uste r. This
pro tects the engine from overheati ng.
The eng ine speed limita tion deactivates once the
engine is no longe r in the critical temperatu re
r ange and you have re leased the accelerator ped
al once .
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine cont rol malfunct ion, the
II ind icator
li ght a lso turns on. Make s ure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam
ple when downshif ting . Drive to an authori zed
Audi dealer or au thorized A udi Service Fac ility im
med iate ly to have the ma lfunction corrected.
(D Tips
Depending on the engine: the engine speed
may be limited when the eng ine is co ld -the
full engine output will not be available. When
the eng ine is at operating temperature, the

The climate control system warms, cools and re
moves humidity from the air in the vehicle interi
or . It is the most effective when the windows and
sunroof* are closed. If there is a bui ld-up of heat
inside the veh icle, ventilat ion can help to speed
up the cooling process.
In all heating mode functions except for
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed once
the eng ine coolant has reached a sufficient tem
perature.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the air .
Key recognition
The climate control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use.
Warm and cold
(®} For the sake of the environment
-If you would like to reduce fuel consump
tion, switch the air conditioning off. This
will also reduce emissions.
- In vehicles with a diesel engine, you can
switch the auxiliary heater off in the Info
tainment system.
(D Tips
-To prevent interference with the heating
and cooling output and to prevent the win
dows from fogging over, the air intake in
front of the windshield must be free of ice,
snow or leaves.
- Condensation from the cooling system can
drip and form a puddle of water under the
vehicle. This is normal and does not mean
there is a leak.
- The energy management system may tem
porarily switch off certain functions, such as
the seat heating* or rear window defogger.
These systems are available again as soon
as the energy supply has been restored.

• Press lightly against the bottom of the bottle
to empty it. Continue pressing the bottom of
the bottle until it is empty or until f luid stops
flowing into the tank .
• Remove the bottle and seal the filler neck
~ page 321, Completing AdBlue refill .
(D Note
Only use refill bottles that are approved for
your veh icle. Us ing other systems can cause
Ad Blue to leak.
- You can obta in refill bottles from an author
i zed Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service
Fac ility.
- A perm itted refill bottle contains approxi
mately 0.5 gallon ( 1.9 liters) of Ad B lue.
Completing AdBlue refill
Applies to: vehicles with selective catalytic reduction
Closing th e filler neck
• Turn the Ad Blue cap to the right on the filler
tube u ntil the cap clicks into p lace

• Then press on the left side of the tank door un -

After filling
The vehicle must be driven so that the system
recognizes t hat the Ad Bl ue was refilled. This can
take severa l min utes .
• If there was no Ad Blue left in the tank and a
range of O mi (0 km) was shown in the display ,
switch the ign ition on for about 30 seconds be
f ore star ting the engine .
(D Tips
Ad Blue in the tank can free ze at very low tem
pe ra tures. If this happens, the system will
no t detect t hat the Ad Bl ue was refilled and i t

level. The message t urns off as soon as the
tank thaws out again .

Catalytic con verter
Applies to: vehicles with gasoline engines
T he vehicle may only be driven with un leaded
gasoline, otherwise the catalytic converter will be
destroyed.
Never drive until the tank is compl ete ly empty .
The irregu lar supply of fuel that resu lts from that
can cause eng ine misfires. Uncombusted fuel will
enter the exhaust system, which can cause over
heating and damage to the catalytic converter .
Diesel particulate filt er
Applies to: vehicles with diesel engines
The diese l particu late filter filters near ly all of
the soot particles out of the exhaust. The filter
cleans itself automatically under norma l driving
condit ions. If the filter cannot clean itself (for ex
ample, because you are only driving short distan
ces), the filter becomes clogged with soot and

_& WARNING
The tempera ture of the exhaus t sys tem is
high, bot h when driv ing and a fter stoppi ng

- Never tou ch the e xhaust tail pipes once they
have become hot. This cou ld res ult in burns .
- Do not par k your veh icle over flamm ab le
materia ls such as grass or leaves because
the high temperature of the emissions con trol system (catalytic converter or diesel particu late filter) cou ld start a fire.
- Do not app ly underbody protectant in the
exhaust system area, beca use this increases
the risk of f ire.

Operating your vehicle
outside the U.S.A. or
Canada
Government reg ulations in the Un ited States and
Canada require that automobiles meet specific
emission regulations and safety standards.
Therefore, vehicles built for the U .S.A. and Cana
