Odometer/trip odometer
The odometer shows the total number of kilome­
ters or miles that have been driven on the vehi­
cle.
The trip odometer shows the distance driven
since it was last reset . It can be used to measu re
short distances. The last digit shows distances of
100 meters or 1/10 of a mile.
The t rip odometer can be reset to zero by press­
ing the reset bu tton

If there is a malfunct ion somewhere in the in­
strument cluster,

-When you switch off the ign ition or open
the driver door, the time, date, odometer
and temperature are displayed for an addi­

switched off.
The warning/indicator lights indicate different functions or a possible malfunction.

If the . symbo l in the instr um ent panel display
flashes, then the re is a malfunction in the alter­
nator or the vehicle electronics . A warning to the
driver will appear, too . The driver warning goes
out after about 5 seconds, but it can be brought
up at any t ime by pressing the
!SET ! button aga in.
Usually, you can still drive to the next dea lership .
T urn off all but the most necessary e lectrica l con­
sumers, since these drain the vehicle's battery.
(D Note
If the . warning symbo l (coolant system
malfunction) also lights up on the instrument
panel during the trip
c:> page 26, then you
have to stop immediately and turn off the en­
gine. The coolant pump is not working any­
more -danger of damage to the engine!
BRAKE/C(D) Brake system malfunction
A ma/function in the brake system must be re­
paired as soon as possible .
If the warning/indicator light 11111 (USA mod­
els) . (Canada models) in the instrument clus­
ter flashes, there is a brake system malfunction.
A driver message appears as well to explain the
malfu nction in more detail. The driver wa rning
goes out after about 5 seconds, but it can be
brought up at any time by pressing the
ISETI but-

't=?: Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immediate service or repair. Driving with a
low oil pressure indication is likely to cause se­
vere engine damage .
If the . symbol on the display flashes, the en ­
g ine oi l pressure is too low. A d river message ap ­
pears as well to explain t he malfunction in mo re
deta il. Th e d river war ning goes ou t afte r abo ut 5
s econds, but it can be b ro u gh t up at any time by
p ressing the
ISET I button again.

off.

tance if necessary.

Do not leave the eng ine running
idle, either .
@ Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, preferably
each time you refuel, and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

ing column lock, the steering cannot be un­
locked.

to have the malfunction corrected.
If there is a malfunct ion in the electronic ignition
lock, the ignition cannot be turned
off . Drive im­
mediately to an authorized service facility to have
the cause of the malfunction corrected.
O n ve hicles with Convenience key* , the eng ine
should not be switched
off using the Start/Stop
button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignition has been switched
off.

p layed in the driver information system, for ex­
ample when downshifting.

qua lified workshop to have the malfunction re­
pa ired .
~ Diesel particulate filter clogged
Applies to: ve hicles with diesel eng ine and diesel part iculate
filter

When the II symbol illum inates, you can a lter
your d riving style to assist the fi lter self-cleaning
process . Dr ive for approx imately 15 minutes with
the selector leve r in the S position at a minimum
speed of 37 mph (60 km/h) and an engine speed
of approximate ly 2,000 RPM. The temperature
increase that will result from this can burn off
the soot in the filter. The symbol will switch off
when the clean ing is successful. After a success­
ful cleaning, there is no need to br ing the car to
a n author ized dealer or qualified workshop be­
cause this is part of no rmal veh icle operat ion.
If the symbol
II does not switch off, see your
author ized dealer or other qualif ied workshop to
have the prob lem corrected.

When this symbol Efl illuminates, it means that
adaptive light is defective. Go to an authorized
Audi dealer to have the head lights or the contro l
u nit for the adapt ive lig ht repaired.

is an e lectronic stee ring column lock malfunc­
t ion.
Drive to your author ized Audi dealer immed iately
to have the malfunction cor rected .
