-The luggage compartment lid can be oper­
ated manually if the vehicle battery is low.
It is necessary to use more force when doing
th is. Move the lid slowly to reduce the
amount of force needed .
- When the vehicle is locked, the luggage
compartment lid can be unlocked separately by p ressing the
c:5 button on the remote
control key. The luggage compartment lid
l ocks automatically when it is closed again.

the second level. The operation will stop if the

After switching the ignition off, you can still
open and close the windows fo r approximate·
l y 10 m inutes. The power w indows do not
swi tc h off until the driver's door or fron t pas­
senger's door has bee n opened.
Convenience opening /closing
All of the windows and the panorama roof can
be opened/closed at the same time.

Lights and Vision
-If you turn off the ignition whi le the exter ior
lights are on and open the door, a warning
tone sounds.
- In cool o r damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn s ignals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature d if f erence
between the inside and outside. They will
clear short ly after switch ing them on. This
does not affect the serv ice life of the light­
i ng .
Turn signal and high beam lever
The turn signal lever operates the turn signals,
the high beams and the headlight flasher .

Additional compartments
You will find a variety of storage compartments
and holders at various locations in the vehicle .
- In the doo r trim pane ls.
- In the center console .
- On the side of the front seats*. The sliding com-
partment can hold a maximum of 3 .3 lbs (1.5
kg) and the folding compartment can ho ld 2.2
lbs (1 kg).
- Nets* on the backrests of the front seats
- Garment hooks next to and above the rear
doors.
- Bag/secur ing hooks in luggage compartment.
A WARNING
- Make sure that the view to the rear is not
obstructed by hanging garments.
- Hang only lightwe ight cloth ing and be sure
that there are no heavy or sharp-edged ob­
jects in the pockets.
- Do not use coat hangers to hang the cloth­
ing because t his could impair the effective­
ness of the s ide air bags *.
- Only use the storage compartments in the
door trim panels to store small objects that
will not stick out of the compa rtment and
impa ir the range of the side a irbags.
- When driving, do not leave any hard objects
on the rear window shelf or a llow your pet
to sit on the she lf. They could restr ict o r
block the driver 's vision in the rear view mir ­
ror and become a hazard for vehicle occu-

pants in the event of sudden braking or a
crash.

Objects located on the rear she lf that rub
against the rear window could damage the heating wires for the rear window defogger.

A vent slot is located between the shel f and
the rear window. Do not b lock the vent with
any items you may place on the rear window

E quipment that uses a lot of electricity is switch­
ed off temporari ly when you start the engine.
I f the engine does not start im mediately, stop
the s tart ing proced ure and repeat afte r 30 sec­
onds. To restart the engine, t urn the ignition key
back to position @.
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation .
- Never remove the ignition key from the igni­
tion look while the vehicle is moving. Other­
wise, the steering lock could suddenly en­ gage and you would not be able to steer the
vehicle .
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherw ise, the engine
could be started or electrical equ ipme nt
such as the power windows cou ld be operat­
ed . T his can lead to serious injury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doo rs can be loc ked using the remote trans­
mitter, preventing people from escap ing
from the vehicle on the ir own in the event o f
an emergency. Depend ing on the t ime of
year, peop le inside the vehicle can be ex­
posed to very high or very low tempera­
tures .

Avoid high engine speed, full throttle, and
heavy engine load if the engine has not
reached operating temperature yet. You could
damage the engine.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not let the engine run while parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately . This re­
duces unnecessary emissions.

- If it is difficu lt to turn the key to position
(D, turn the steering wheel back and forth
slightly to release the steering wheel lock .

more force to turn or brake if necessary. Be­
cause yo u cannot stee r and brake as you
usually would, th is could lead to crashes
and serious injuries .
- For safety reasons, you should always park
your veh icle w ith the selector lever in P.
Otherwise, the vehicle could inadvertently
ro ll away .
- The radiator fan can continue to run for up
to 10 minu tes even after you have turned
off the engine and removed the ignition key.
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the
engine coolant heats up because of intense
sunlight or heat build-up in the eng ine com­
partment.
- Always take the key with you whenever you leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat­

Engaging the steering lock1

The steering locks when you tu rn the engine off
using the
! S TART ENGINE ST OP I butto n and
open the driver's door. The locked stee ring he lps
p revent vehicle theft .
Emergency off function *
If it is absolutely necessary, the engine can also
be turned off while driv ing at speeds starting at
4 mph (7 km/h). To switch the engine off, p ress
the
! STA RT ENGINE ST OP I button twice in a row
bri efly or press and hold for long er than two sec­
onds.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the veh icle
has come to a complete stop. The f ull func­
ti on of the brake booster and the power
