Indicator lights
Description
The indicator lights in the instrument cluster
b link or turn on. They indicate functions or mal­
functions ¢& .
Messages may appear with some indicator lights.
A warning signal will sound at the same time.
The messages disappear again after a short t ime.
To disp lay a message again, press the
ISETI but­
ton ¢
page 9. If several malfunctions occur, each
of the indicator/warning lamps will be displayed
in succession for about two seconds at a time.
Some ind icators lights in the display can turn on
in several colors.
A WARNING
-
-Failure to heed warning lights and other im­
portant vehicle informat ion may result in
serious personal injury or vehicle damage.
- Whenever stalled or stopped for repair,
move the vehicle a safe distance off the
road, stop the engine, and turn on th@
emergency flasher¢ page 50.
-The engine compartment of any motor vehi­
cle is a potentially hazardous area . Before
you check anything in the engine compart­ ment, stop the engine and let it cool down.
Always exercise extreme caution when work­ ing under the hood¢
page 193.
Overview
Some ind icator lights turn on briefly to check the
function of that system when you switch the ign i­
tion on . These systems are marked with a ,/ in
the following tables. If one of these indicator
lights does not turn on, there is a malfunction in
that system.

fied workshop if the sport differential is fau lty
or ma lfunctioning. The repa ir must be per­
formed by trained personnel us ing the correct
oil in order to ensure safety .

Opening and closing
Central locking
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally. You
have the following choices:
- Remote master key ¢

- Power lock ing switch ins ide ¢

Automatic lo cking
The automat ic locking feature locks all the vehi­
cle doors and the rear lid when you drive faster
than 9 mph ( 15 km/h) .
The car is unlocked again once the ignition key is
removed . In addition, the veh icle can be unlocked
if the opening function in the power locki ng sys ­
tem sw itch or at one of the door levers is actuat­
ed. The A uto Lock funct io n can be tu rned on and
off in the rad io or MM I*
¢ page 32.
Additionally, in the event of a crash with airbag
deployment the doors are automatically un­
l ocked to allow access to the veh icle.
Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking sys­
tem will lock the doors and the rear lid . When
unlocking, yo u can set in the rad io or MMI*
whether
only the d river 's doo r o r the entire vehi­
cle shou ld be un loc ked
¢ page 32.
Anti-theft alarm w arning system
If the anti-theft alarm warning system detects a
break-in into the vehicle, acoust ic and visual
warn ing s ignals a re triggered.
The anti-theft warning system is activated auto­
mat ically when you lock the vehicle. It is deact i­
vated when unlocking using the remote key, with the mechanical key, and w hen you switch on the
i gnit io n.
Op ening and cl osing
The alarm also t urns off when the alarm cycle has
expi red.
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice, when yo u lock it once. If they do not
flash, one of the doors, the l uggage compa rt­
ment lid or the hood is no t locked or the ignition
is still switched on.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the following cases there safeguards to p re­
ven t you locking your remo te mas te r key in the
vehicle:
- The vehicle does not loc k w ith the power lock­
ing sw itch
¢ page 31 if the d river 's doo r is
open.
- On veh icles with co nvenience key*, if the most
re cent ly used master key is in the l uggage com­
pa rtment, the rear lid is a utomatically unlocked
aga in after it is closed.
Do not lock your veh icle w ith the remote master
key or conven ience key* until all doors and the
rea r lid are closed . In this way yo u avoid loc king
yoursel f out acc identally .
A WARNING
=
-When you leave the vehicle, always remove
the ignition key and take it with you. This
will prevent passengers (children, fo r exam­
ple) from accidentally being locked in the
veh icle should they accidentally press the
power locking sw itch in the front doors.
- Do not leave children ins ide the vehicle un­
supervised . In an emergency it would be im­
possible to open the doors from the outside
without the key.
(D Tips
- In the event of a crash wit h airbag dep loy­
ment all locked doors will be automatically
unlocked to give access to the vehicle occ u­
pants from the o utside.
- If the power locking system sho uld mal­
function, you can lock the driver's door us­ ing the mechan ica l key ¢

mote control during programm ing and
press it aga in. Hold each position you try for
at least 15 seconds before trying another
pos ition. Keep the turn signals on your vehi­
cle in view when do ing this .
Rolling code programming
Appl ies to: ve hicles with garage doo r opener (Homeli nk)
Rolling code programming is also needed for
some systems.
Ident ifying a rolling code
~ Press and hold the button in the roof headliner
that was already programmed .
~ Watch the LED @¢page 3 7, fig . 32. If the LED
blinks qu ickly, t he systems (such as a garage
doo r) is equ ipped with a rolling code.
~ Program the roll ing code as follows:
Acti vating the motor unit in a sy stem
~ Locate the programming button on the sys­
tem's motor unit . The exact location and color
of the butto n may vary depending on the brand
of the system .
~ Press the programm ing button on the ga rage
doo r opener motor unit (th is w ill usually ac ti­
vate a n "ind icator" on the mo to r u nit). You now
have approximate ly
30 seconds to program the
button in the roof headliner .
Programming the button in the roof
headliner
~ Press and hold the previously programmed b ut­
ton in the roof headliner for 2 seconds.
~ To end rolling code programming, p ress and
hold the button aga in for 2 seconds.
~ With some systems, the button may need to be
pressed a third time to end the programmi ng
process .
Opening and cl osing
After programming, the system shou ld detect
the signal and begin moving when the button in
the roof headliner is pressed . Now you may pro­
gram the other buttons as needed.
(D Tips
- The ro lling code can be programmed more
quickly and more easily with the he lp of a
second person.
- If you have diffic ulty programming the roll­
ing code, referring to the user gu ide for the
system may help.

When switched on
, adap tive ligh t ad ap ts to
curves in the roa d depending on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le. Th is prov ides bet­
ter light ing th rough th e curv e. The system oper­
ates at speeds between approximately 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cornering light* (vehicles with adaptive
li ght) -the corne ring light switches on at spe eds
up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) when a
ce rtain steering wheel angle is reached or when a
turn signal is act ivated . The area to the side of
the veh icle is illuminated better when turning .
T he adaptive light and the cornering light only
funct ion when the switc h is in the AUTO position
(automat ic head lights*) .
A WARNING
- Daytime r unning lights and au tomatic head­
lights* are o nly intended to ass ist the d river .
They do not relieve the d rive r of his res pon­
sibility to check t he headlights and to tur n
t hem on m anually accordi ng to the curren t
light and visibili ty cond itions. For example,
fog cannot be detected by the light sen­
sors*. So a lways switch on the headlights
io
unde r these weather conditions and when
driving in the dark .
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by ot her motorists. Always tur n on the
headlights so that yo u can see ahead a nd so
that others can see yo ur ca r from the back .
- Please obey all laws w hen us ing the lighting
sys tems described here.

The rear fog lights* shou ld only be turned on
i n accordance with traffic regu lation, as the
lights are bright for following traff ic.

- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned on,
a buzzer sounds as long as the driver's door
is open.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference
between the inside and outside. They will
clear shortly after switching them on. This does not affect the serv ice life of the light­
ing .
- In the event of a light sensor malfunction,
the driver is notified in the instrument clus­
ter display

The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher.

WARNING
Do not use the high beam or headlight flasher
if you know that these could blind oncoming
traffic.

Daytime running lights
USA models :
You can switch the daytime r unning
lights
on and off .
Canada models: The funct ion cannot be tu rned
off .
It is activated automatically each t ime the ig­
n ition is switched on.
Tra vel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illumination on the side of the
road on which you are driving.
If you are driving
in a cou ntry that dr ives on the opposite side of
the road from you r own country, this will cause
g lar e fo r oncom ing dr ive rs . To p revent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in veh icles w ith
Xenon headlights* .
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be cove red
with waterproof adhesive covers that prev ent
l ight from passing through. For more informa­
tion, ple ase see you r auth orized Audi dea le r or
a uthorized repair fa ci lity .
When travel mode is ac tiva ted, a disp lay in

deployed .

You should turn on the emergency flashers

-you are the last vehicle standi ng in a traffic

see yo u, or when
- yo ur ve hicle has broken down or yo u are in

-your vehicle is be ing towed by a tow tru ck or
if yo u are towing another vehicle behin d
you.
