Manual transmission
Reverse: with the vehicle stationary,
depress clutch pedal and then pull up
the collar on the selector lever and
engage the gear.
If the gear does not engage, set the
lever to neutral, release the clutch
pedal and depress again; then repeat gear selection.

Starting off
Check before starting off ● Tyre pressure and condition 3 198, 3 243.
● Engine oil level and fluid levels 3 175.
● All windows, mirrors, exterior lighting and number plates are
free from dirt, snow and ice and
are operational.
● Proper position of mirrors, seats and seat belts 3 35, 3 42,
3 52.
● Brake function at low speed, particularly if the brakes are wet.

● Turn key to position 1.
● Move the steering wheel slightly to release the steering wheel
lock.
● Operate clutch and brake.
● Do not operate accelerator pedal.
● Turn the key to position 2 for
preheating and wait until control
indicator ! extinguishes in the
Driver Information Centre.
● Turn key to position 3 and
release.

Stop-start system
An Autostop is indicated when control
indicator Ï illuminates green in the
instrument cluster.
Manual transmission If the vehicle is at low speed or in
standstill and certain conditions are
fulfilled, activate an Autostop as
follows:
● depress the clutch pedal● move the selector lever to neutral
● release the clutch pedal
To restart the engine, with the
selector lever in neutral, depress the
clutch pedal.
Manual transmission automated
If the vehicle is at a standstill and
certain conditions are fulfilled,
activate an Autostop as follows:
● selector lever in position N (or
A/M )
● depress brake pedal firmly
● do not accelerate
To restart the engine, with the
selector lever in position N (or A/M)
and the parking brake released,
release the brake pedal.

Control indicators
The control indicators described are
not present in all vehicles. The
description applies to all instrument
versions. Depending on the
equipment, the position of the control
indicators may vary. When the
ignition is switched on, most control
indicators will illuminate briefly as a
functionality test.
The control indicator colours mean:red:danger, important reminderyellow:warning, information, faultgreen:confirmation of activationblue:confirmation of activationwhite:confirmation of activation

Warning chimes
When starting the engine or whilst
driving
Only one warning chime will sound at a time.
The warning chime regarding
unfastened seat belts has priority
over any other warning chime.
● If seat belt is not fastened 3 52.
● If a certain speed is exceeded with the parking brake applied

● If the parking assist detects an object or a fault is present
3 161.
● If the vehicle has manual transmission automated and the
clutch temperature is too high

● If the vehicle speed briefly exceeds a set limit 3 87.

continually recorded and evaluated electronically.

Never remove the key from
ignition switch during driving as
this will cause steering wheel lock.
Starting the engine
Manual transmission: operate clutch.
Manual transmission automated:
operate brake; transmission
automatically shifts to N.
Do not accelerate.
Turn the key to position 2 for
preheating, and hold until control
indicator N extinguishes from the
Driver Information Centre.
Notice
Depending on vehicle, if a gear is
engaged during preheating, a
message may appear in the Driver
Information Centre (DIC) 3 100
indicating that the clutch pedal must be depressed when starting the
engine.
Turn key to position 3 and release.
The increased engine speed
automatically returns to normal idling
speed as the engine temperature
rises.
Start attempts should not last longer
than 15 seconds. If engine does not
start, wait 15 seconds before
repeating starting procedure. If
necessary, depress accelerator
before repeating starting procedure.Notice
Rear-wheel drive: When starting on
a level surface with an unladen
vehicle, it is recommended that
second gear is selected when
starting off.
Before restarting or to switch off the
engine, turn key back to 0.
During an Autostop, the engine can
be started by depressing the clutch
pedal. Stop-start system 3 134.
Turbo engine warm-up
Upon start-up, engine available
torque may be limited for a short time, especially when the engine
temperature is cold. The limitation is
to allow the lubrication system to fully
protect the engine.
