warning flashers are activated.
Rapid flashing: failure of a turn signal
light or associated fuse.
An audible warning can be heard
when the turn signals are on. When
towing a trailer, the pitch of the
audible warning changes.

soon as possible, to avoid prevention
of engine starts.
Illuminates together with control
indicator A to indicate a system
failure or as a warning that engine starting may not be possible after a
certain distance. Seek the assistance
of a workshop immediately.
A corresponding message appears in the Driver Information Centre (DIC)
3 89.

corresponding message appears in
the Driver Information Centre (DIC)
when a puncture or severely under-
inflated tyre is detected.
Flashes
Fault in system. After a delay the
control indicator illuminates

Warning chimes
When starting the engine or whilst driving
Only one warning chime will sound at
a time.
The warning chime regarding
unfastened seat belts has priority
over any other warning chime.
● If seat belt is not fastened 3 47.
● If a certain speed is exceeded with the parking brake applied
3 135.
● If the parking assist detects an object or a fault is present
3 142.
● If the vehicle has manual transmission automated and the
clutch temperature is too high 3 130.
● If the vehicle speed briefly exceeds a set limit 3 77.
● During closing of the power sliding door 3 26.● If the sliding door is open and the
parking brake is released 3 26.
● During activation and deactivation of alarm monitoring
of vehicle inclination 3 31.
● If the AdBlue level falls below a certain amount or a fault is
present 3 125.
● If the lane departure warning system detects an unintended
lane change and when the
system is activated 3 146.
When the vehicle is parked and/or the driver's door is opened
● When the key is in the ignition switch.
● With exterior lights on.
● If the vehicle has manual transmission automated 3 130;
the parking brake has not been
applied, neutral is not selected or the brake pedal has not been
depressed. A corresponding
message may also appear in the
Driver Information Centre (DIC)
3 89.● If the sliding side door exterior
handle is in the open position
when unlocking the vehicle 3 26.

Driving and operating125Caution
Fuel grades other than those listedon page 3 148, 3 201 could
damage the catalytic converter or
electronic components.
Unburnt petrol will overheat and
damage the catalytic converter.
Therefore avoid excessive use of the starter, running the fuel tank
dry and starting the engine by
pushing or towing.
In the event of misfiring, uneven
engine running, a reduction in engine performance or other unusual
problems, have the cause of the fault
rectified by a workshop as soon as
possible. In an emergency, driving
can be continued for a short period,
keeping vehicle speed and engine
speed low.
If control indicator Z flashes, the
permitted emission limits may be
exceeded. Lift your foot off the
accelerator until Z stops flashing and
is steadily illuminated. Contact a
workshop immediately.
Malfunction indicator light 3 84.
AdBlue
General information The selective catalytic reduction
(BlueInjection) is a method to
substantially reduce the nitrogen
oxides in the exhaust emission. This
is achieved by injecting a Diesel
Exhaust Fluid (DEF) into the exhaust
system.
The designation of the DEF used is
AdBlue Ⓡ. It is a non-toxic, non-
flammable, colourless and odourless
fluid which consists of 32% urea and
68% water.
Notice
AdBlue Ⓡ is a registered trademark
of the Verband der
Automobilindustrie e.V. (VDA).9 Warning
Avoid contact of your eyes or skin
with AdBlue.
In case of eye or skin contact,
rinse off with water.
Caution
Avoid contact of the paintwork with AdBlue.
In case of contact, rinse off with water.
AdBlue freezes at a temperature of
approx. -11 °C. As the vehicle is
equipped with an AdBlue pre-heater,
the emissions reduction at low
temperatures is ensured. The AdBlue
pre-heater works automatically.
126Driving and operatingAdblue gauge
The current fluid level remaining is
shown in the Adblue gauge 3 79.
Level warnings
The AdBlue consumption is approx.
3.5 litres per 1000 km and depends
on the driving behaviour.
Version with level warnings in the
Driver Information Centre (DIC)
If the AdBlue level falls below a
certain value, a level warning will be
displayed in the Driver Information
Centre (DIC) 3 89.
Additionally, control indicator Õ
illuminates continuously together with a warning chime.
Refill the Adblue tank as soon as
possible. Refer to " Refilling AdBlue"
below.
Driving is possible without any
restrictions.
If AdBlue is not refilled within a certain
distance, further level warnings are
displayed in the DIC depending on the current AdBlue level.
Engine restarts prevented
Subsequent requests to refill AdBlue
and finally the announcement that an engine restart will be prevented are
displayed in the DIC.
Notice
These restrictions are a legal
requirement.
Before the prevention of an engine
restart, a warning message with
0 miles is displayed in the DIC,
indicating that after switching off the
ignition an engine restart will be
prohibited.
After the prevention of an engine
start, a warning message is displayed in the DIC reminding the driver that
AdBlue level is insufficient.
To allow the engine to be restarted,
the tank should be filled with at least
10 litres of AdBlue.High emission warnings
If the exhaust emission rises above a
certain value, warnings similar to the
range warnings as described above
will be displayed in the DIC. Control
