For safety and security
WARNING
■SRS airbag precautions
●If breathing becomes difficult after the SRS airbags have deployed, open a
door or window to allow fresh air in, or leave the vehicle if it is safe to do
so. Wash off any residue as soon as possible to prevent skin irritation.
●If the areas where the SRS airbags are stored, such as the steering wheel
pad and front and rear pillar garnishes, are damaged or cracked, have
them replaced by your Toyota dealer.
●Do not place anything, such as a cushion, on the front passenger’s seat.
Doing so will disperse the passenger’s weight, which prevents the sensor
from detecting the passenger’s weight properly. As a result, the SRS front
airbags for the front passenger may not deploy in the event of a collision.
■Modification and disposal of SRS airbag system components
Do not dispose of your vehicle or perform any of the following modifications
without consulting your Toyota dealer. The SRS airbags may malfunction or
deploy (inflate) accidentally, causing death or serious injury.
●Installation, removal, disassembly and repair of the SRS airbags
●Repairs, modifications, removal or replacement of the steering wheel,
instrument panel, dashboard, seats or seat upholstery, front, side and rear
pillars or roof side rails
●Repairs or modifications of the front fender, front bumper, or side of the
occupant compartment
●Installation of a grille guard (bull bars, kangaroo bar, etc.), snow plows or
winches
●Modifications to the vehicle’s suspension system
●Installation of electronic devices such as mobile two-way radios and CD
players
●Modifications to your vehicle for a person with a physical disability

4-1. Before driving
NOTICE
■When encountering flooded roads
Do not drive on a road that has flooded after heavy rain etc. Doing so may
cause the following serious damage to the vehicle:
●Engine stalling
●Short in electrical components
●Engine damage caused by water immersion
In the event that you drive on a flooded road and the vehicle is flooded, be
sure to have your Toyota dealer check the following:
●Brake function
●Changes in quantity and quality of oil and fluid used for the engine, hybrid
transmission, etc.
●Lubricant condition for the bearings and suspension joints (where possi-
ble), and the function of all joints, bearings, etc.
If the shift control system is damaged by flooding, it may not be possible to
shift the shift position to P, or from P to other positions. When the shift posi-
tion cannot be changed from P to any other position, the front wheels will
lock, and you will be unable to tow the vehicle with the front wheels on the
ground, as the front wheels may be locked. In this case, transport the vehi-
cle with both front wheels or all four wheels lifted.

NOTICE
■To prevent damage to or incorrect operation of the LDA
Observe the following to ensure that the LDA system functions correctly
●Do not modify the headlights or attach stickers to the surface of the lights.
●Do not modify the suspension. When performing a replacement, contact
your Toyota dealer.
●Do not install or place anything on the hood or the grille. Also, do not install
a grille guard (bull bars, kangaroo bar, etc.).
●If your windshield needs repairs, contact your Toyota dealer.
■Camera sensor
Observe the following to ensure that the LDA system functions correctly
●Keep the windshield clean at all times.
Performance could be affected if the windshield is dirty, or if raindrops,
condensation or ice are adhering to the windshield.
●Do not spill liquids onto the camera sensor.
●Do not attach window tinting to the windshield.
●Do not install an antenna in front of the camera lens.
●If the windshield area in front of the camera sensor is fogged up, use the
windshield defogger to remove the fog from that area. (P. 366)
When it is cold, using the heater with air blowing to the feet may allow the
upper part of the windshield to fog up. This will have a negative effect on
the images.
●Do not scratch the camera lens, or let it get dirty.
When cleaning the inside of the windshield, be careful not to get any glass
cleaner, etc., on the lens. Also, do not touch the lens.
For lens repair, contact your Toyota dealer.
●Do not change the installation position or direction of the camera sensor or
remove it.
The direction of the camera sensor is precisely adjusted.
●Do not subject the camera sensor to strong impact or force, and do not
disassemble the camera sensor.
●When replacing the windshield, contact your Toyota dealer.
●Do not attach a sticker or other items to
the windshield near the camera sensor.

WARNING
■Replacing tires
Make sure that all tires are of the specified size and of the same brand,
tread pattern and total load capacity. In addition, make sure that the tires are
inflated to the recommended tire inflation pressure level.
The ABS, VSC and TRAC systems will not function correctly if different tires
are installed on the vehicle.
Contact your Toyota dealer for further information when replacing tires or
wheels.
■Handling of tires and the suspension
Using tires with any kind of problem or modifying the suspension will affect
the driving assist systems, and may cause a system to malfunction.

NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the panoramic roof (if equipped)
Observe the following precautions. Otherwise, the surface of the panoramic
roof may be damaged, or the deterioration of the coating may be acceler-
ated.
●Before washing the vehicle, remove any dust, sand or other foreign matter
using water.
●Do not use harsh brushes, scrubbing brushes or sharp objects to wash the
roof. Use only soft cloths or sponges.
●Use a mild soap when removing dirt, and avoid the use of oil-based prod-
ucts (such as glass coating or car wax), alcohol-based products (such as
glass cleaner), or abrasive cleansers.
After cleaning, wash away any remaining soap with water.
●If there is iron oxide on the vehicle, wash it away with water while wiping
gently without scrubbing.
●Do not attach suction cups or sticky objects, such as stickers.
Promptly remove the information label attached to the panoramic roof after
confirming the content.
●If snow has accumulated on the roof, remove it while being careful to avoid
scratching the roof.
If there is frost or ice on the roof, avoid the use of scrapers or de-icer.
■When using a high pressure car wash
Do not bring the nozzle tip close to boots (rubber or resin manufactured
cover), connectors or the following parts. The parts may be damaged if they
come into contact with high-pressure water.
• Traction related parts
• Steering parts
• Suspension parts
• Brake parts

vehicle could be damaged while being towed.
■To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear.
