2444-6. Driving tips
CAMRY_HV_U (OM33C35U)
WARNING
nDriving with snow tires
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to do so may result in a loss of vehicle control and cause death or
serious injury.
lUse tires of the specified size.
l Maintain the recommended level of air pressure.
l Do not drive in excess of 75 mph (120 km/h), regardless of the type of
snow tires being used.
l Use snow tires on all, not just some wheels.
n Driving with tire chains
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to do so may result in the vehicle being unable to be driven safely,
and may cause death or serious injury.
lDo not drive in excess of the speed limit specified for the tire chains being
used, or 30 mph (50 km/h), whichever is lower.
l Avoid driving on bumpy road surfaces or over potholes.
l Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shifting
operations that cause sudden engine braking.
l Slow down sufficiently before entering a curve to ensure that vehicle con-
trol is maintained.
l Vehicles with LDA (Lane Departure Alert) system:
Do not use LDA (Lane Departure Alert) system.
NOTICE
nRepairing or replacing snow tires (vehicles with a tire pressure warn-
ing system)
Request repairs or replacement of snow tires from Toyota dealers or legiti-
mate tire retailers.
This is because the removal and attachment of snow tires affects the opera-
tion of the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters.
n Fitting tire chains (vehicles with a tire pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning valves and transmitters may not function correctly
when tire chains are fitted.

3386-1. Using the air conditioning system and defogger
CAMRY_HV_U (OM33C35U)
nOperation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode
In Eco drive mode, the air conditioning system is controlled as follows to pri-
oritize fuel efficiency:
lEngine speed and compressor operation controlled to restrict heating/cool-
ing capacity
l Fan speed restricted when automatic mode is selected
To improve air conditioning performance, perform the following operations:
l Adjust the fan speed
l Turn off Eco drive mode
n Using automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature setting and
the ambient conditions.
Therefore, the fan may stop for a while until warm or cool air is ready to flow
immediately after is pressed.
n Fogging up of the windows
lThe windows will easily fog up when the humidity in the vehicle is high.
Turning on will dehumidify the air from the outlets and defog the wind-
shield effectively.
l If you turn off, the windows may fog up more easily.
l The windows may fog up if the recirculated air mode is used.
n Windshield fog detection function
When automatic mode is set, the humidity sensor (P. 340) detects fog on
the windshield and controls the air conditioning system to prevent fog.
n Outside/recirculated air mode
lWhen driving on dusty roads such as tunnels or in heavy traffic, set the out-
side/recirculated air mode button to recirculated air mode. This is effective in
preventing outside air from entering the vehicle interior. During cooling oper-
ation, setting the recirculated air mode will also cool the vehicle interior
effectively.
l Outside/recirculated air mode may automatically switch depending on the
temperature setting or the inside temperature.
n When the outside temperature exceeds 75°F (24°C) and the air condition-
ing system is on
lIn order to reduce the air conditioning power consumption, the air condition-
ing system may switch to recirculated air mode automatically. This may also
reduce fuel consumption.
l Recirculated air mode is selected as a default mode when the power switch
is turned to ON mode.
l It is possible to switch to outside air mode at any time by pressing .

When using a car wash
If the door handle becomes wet while the electronic key is within the ef\
fective
range, the door may lock and unlock repeatedly. In that case, follow the fol-
lowing correction procedures to wash the vehicle:
lPlace the key in a position 6 ft. (2 m) or more separate from the vehicle
while the vehicle is being washed. (Take care to ensure that the key is not
stolen.)
l Set the electronic key to battery-saving mode to disable the smart key sys-
tem. ( P. 123)
n Aluminum wheels (if equipped)
lRemove any dirt immediately by using a neutral detergent. Do not use hard
brushes or abrasive cleaners. Do not use strong or harsh chemical clean-
ers.
Use the same mild detergent and wax as used on the paint.
l Do not use detergent on the wheels when they are hot, for example after
driving for long distance in the hot weather.
l Wash detergent from the wheels immediately after use.
n Bumpers
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
WARNING
nWhen washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the engine compartment. Doing so may
cause the electrical components etc. to catch fire.
n Precautions regarding the exhaust pipes
Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust pipes to become quite hot.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch the pipes until it has
cooled sufficiently, as touching a hot exhaust pipes can cause burns.
n Precaution regarding the rear bump er with Blind Spot Monitor (if
equipped)
If the paint of the rear bumper is chipped or scratched, the system may mal-
function. If this occurs, avoid using the system and consult your Toyota
dealer.

WARNING
nIf your vehicle is not properly maintained
Improper maintenance could result in serious damage to the vehicle and
possible death or serious injury.
n Handling of the 12-volt battery
lEngine exhaust, some of its constituents, and a wide variety of automobile
components contain or emit chemicals known to the State of California to
cause cancer and birth defects and other reproductive harm. Work in a
well ventilated area.
l Oils, fuels and fluids contained in vehicles as well as waste produced by
component wear contain or emit chemicals known to the State of
California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Avoid exposure and wash any affected area immediately.
l 12-volt battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and
lead compounds which are known to cause brain damage. Wash your
hands after handling. ( P. 404)
