XPull luggage net bag 0083down slightly and
secure with the Velcro fasteners.
To remove, follow the sequence in reverse.
Installing and removing the trunk cover
XTo install: grip trunk cover 0043in the mid-
dle and pull it back.
XHook trunk cover 0043into left and right rear
brackets 0084and release.
XTo remove: grip trunk cover 0043in the mid-
dle, pull it back and unhook it from rear
brackets 0084.
XSlide trunk cover 0043back.
Fitting/removing the subwoofer
XTo fit: insert connector 0043.
XPlace subwoofer0044on the side trim.
XSlide subwoofer 0044to bracket 0087.
XSlide the subwoofer up in the direction of
the arrow on bracket 0087.
XThen slide the subwoofer over bracket 0087in
the direction of the arrow until the sub-
woofer slides down.
XClose quick-release fastener 0085.
XTo remove:release quick-release fas-
tener 0085.
XSlide the subwoofer up over bracket 0087and
remove.

Cup holder
Important safety notes
GWARNING
The cup holder cannot hold a container
secure whilst traveling. If you use a cup
holder whilst traveling, the container may
be flung around and liquid may be spilled.
The vehicle occupants may come into con-
tact with the liquid and if it is hot, they
may be scalded. You may be distracted from
the traffic conditions and you could lose
control of the vehicle. There is a risk of an
accident and injury.
Only use the cup holder when the vehicle is stationary. Only use the cup holder for con-
tainers of the right size. Always close the
container, particularly if the liquid is
hot.
GWARNING
If you transport objects in the vehicle
interior and these are not adequately
secured, they could slip or be flung around
and thereby strike vehicle occupants. In
addition, cup holders, open stowage spaces and mobile phone brackets may not always
be able to hold the objects placed in them
in the event of an accident. There is a risk
of injury, particularly in the event of sharp
braking or sudden changes of direction.
RAlways stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be tossed about in these or
similar situations.
RAlways make sure that objects do not pro-
trude out of the stowage spaces, luggage
nets or stowage nets.
REnsure that closable stowage spaces are
shut before beginning your journey.
RAlways stow and secure heavy, hard, poin-
ted, sharp-edged, fragile or large
objects in the cargo compartment.
!Only use the cup holders for containers of
the right size and which have lids. The
drinks could otherwise spill.

Sun visors
Overview
GWARNING
If the mirror cover of the vanity mirror is
folded up when the vehicle is in motion, you
could be blinded by incident light. There
is a risk of an accident.
Always keep the mirror cover folded down
while driving.

XPull the sun visor out of bracket 0044.

Ashtray
!
The cup holder in the center console is not
heat resistant. Before placing lit ciga-
rettes in the ashtray, make sure that the
ashtray is fully inserted in the cup holder.
Make sure that lit cigarettes do not fall
into the cup holder.
Otherwise, the cup holder could be dam-
aged.
XTo open: lift up cover 0043.
XTo close:push down cover 0043.
XTo remove:pull the ashtray up and out.
XTo insert:insert the ashtray into the cup
holder.
iIf you remove the ashtray, you can use the
resulting compartment for stowage.
12 V sockets
General notes
XTurn the SmartKey to position 1in the igni-
tion lock (Ypage 87).
The sockets can be used for accessories with a
maximum draw of 120 W(10A). Example acces-
sories include mobile phone chargers.
If you use the sockets for long periods when
the engine is switched off, the battery may
discharge.

Floormat on the driver's side
GWARNING
Objects in the driver's footwell can
restrict the pedal travel or obstruct a
depressed pedal. The operating and road
safety of the vehicle is jeopardized. There
is a risk of an accident.
Make sure that all objects in the vehicle are
stowed correctly, and that they cannot enter
the driver's footwell. Install the floormats securely and as specified in order to
ensure sufficient clearance for the pedals.
Do not use loose floormats and do not place
floormats on top of one another.
XSlide the driver's seat backwards.
XTo install: place the floormat in the foot-
well.
XPress safety catch knobs 0043onto retain-
ers 0044.
XTo remove: pull the floormat off retain-
ers 0044.
XRemove the floormat.

!For cleaning your vehicle, do not use any
of the following:
Rdry, rough or hard cloths
Rabrasive cleaning agents
Rsolvents
Rcleaning agents containing solvents
Do not scrub.
Do not touch the surfaces or protective
films with hard objects, e.g. a ring or ice
scraper. You could otherwise scratch or
damage the surfaces and protective film.
!Do not park the vehicle for an extended
period straight after cleaning it, partic-
ularly after having cleaned the wheels with
wheel cleaner. Wheel cleaners could cause
increased corrosion of the brake discs and
brake pads/linings. For this reason, you
should drive for a few minutes after clean-
ing. Braking heats the brake discs and the
brake pads/linings, thus drying them. The
vehicle can then be parked.
Regular care of your vehicle is a condition
for retaining the quality in the long term.
Use care products and cleaning agents rec-
ommended and approved by smart.
Exterior care
Automatic car wash
GWARNING
Braking efficiency is reduced after wash-
ing the vehicle. There is a risk of an acci-
dent.
After the vehicle has been washed, brake
carefully while paying attention to the
traffic conditions until full braking power
is restored.
!Never clean your vehicle in a Touchless
Automatic Car Wash as these use special
cleaning agents. These cleaning agents can
damage the paintwork or plastic parts.
!Make sure that:
Rthe side windows are fully closed
Rthe climate control blower is switched
off
Rthe windshield wiper switch is at posi-
tion 0
The vehicle may otherwise be damaged.
You can wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash from the very start.
If the vehicle is very dirty, pre-wash it
before cleaning it in an automatic car wash.
After using an automatic car wash, wipe off
wax from the windshield and the wiper blades.
This will prevent smears and reduce wiping
noises caused by residue on the windshield.
Washing by hand
In some countries, washing by hand is only
allowed at specially equipped washing bays.
Observe the legal requirements in each coun-
try.
XDo not use hot water and do not wash the
vehicle in direct sunlight.
XUse a soft sponge to clean.
XUse a mild cleaning agent, such as a car
shampoo approved by smart.
XThoroughly hose down the vehicle with a
gentle jet of water.
XDo not point the water jet directly towards
the air inlet.
XUse plenty of water and rinse out the sponge frequently.
XRinse the vehicle with clean water and dry
thoroughly with a chamois.
XDo not let the cleaning agent dry on the
paintwork.
Carefully remove all deposits of road salt as
soon as possible when driving in winter.
Power washers
GWARNING
The water jet from a circular jet nozzle
(dirt blasters) can cause invisible exte-
rior damage to the tires or chassis compo- nents. Components damaged in this way may
fail unexpectedly. There is a risk of an
accident.

The TIREFIT kit and the towing eye are located
in the stowage well under the front-passenger
footwell.

Preparing the vehicle
Your vehicle may be equipped with a TIREFIT
kit (Ypage 161).
Information on changing/mounting a wheel
(
Ypage 197).
XStop the vehicle on solid, non-slippery and
level ground, as far away as possible from
traffic.
XSwitch on the hazard warning lamps.
XSecure the vehicle against rolling away
(Ypage 100).
XIf possible, bring the front wheels into the
straight-ahead position.
XSwitch off the engine.
XRemove the SmartKey from the ignition
lock.
XMake sure that the passengers are not
endangered as they get out of the vehicle.
Make sure that no one is near the danger
area while a wheel is being changed. Any-
one who is not directly assisting in the
wheel change should, for example, stand
behind the barrier.
XGet out of the vehicle. Pay attention to
traffic conditions when doing so.
XClose the driver's door.
TIREFIT kit
Important safety notes
TIREFIT is a tire sealant.
You can use TIREFIT to seal punctures of up to
0.16 in (4 mm), particularly those in the tire
tread. You can use TIREFIT at outside tem-
peratures down to 00F84‡(00F820 †).

XTurn the key to position1in the ignition
lock (Ypage 87).
XPress on/off switch 0084on tire inflation
compressor 0044toI.
The tire inflation compressor is switched
on. The tire is inflated.
iFirst, tire sealant is pumped into the
tire. The pressure can briefly rise to
approximately 600 kPa (6.0 bar/86 psi).
Do not switch off the tire inflation com-
pressor during this phase.
XLet the tire inflation compressor run for a
maximum of 15 minutes. The tire should then
have attained a pressure of at least 180 kPa
(1.8 bar/26 psi).
If a tire pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) is
achieved after a maximum of 15 minutes, see
"Tire pressure is achieved" (
Ypage 163).
If a tire pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi)
has not been achieved after a maximum of
15 minutes, see "Tire pressure is not ach-
ieved" (
Ypage 163).
iIf tire sealant leaks out, allow it to dry. It
can then be removed like a layer of film.
If your clothes are soiled with tire sealant,
have them cleaned with perchloroethylene
at a dry cleaner as soon as possible.
Tire pressure not reached
If a tire pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi)
has not been achieved after a maximum of
10 minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of
the faulty tire.
XVery slowly drive forwards or reverse
approximately 30 ft (10 m).
XPump up the tire again.
After a maximum of 10 minutes, the tire
pressure must be at least 180 kPa (1.8 bar/
26 psi).
GWARNING
If the required tire pressure is not reached after the specified time, the tire is too
badly damaged. The tire sealant cannot
repair the tire in this instance. Damaged
tires and a tire pressure that is too low can
significantly impair the vehicle's braking
and driving characteristics. There is a
risk of accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a quali-
fied specialist workshop.
Tire pressure reached
GWARNING
A tire temporarily sealed with tire sealant impairs the driving characteristics and is
not suitable for higher speeds. There is a
risk of accident.
You should therefore adapt your driving
style accordingly and drive carefully. Do
not exceed the specified maximum speed
with a tire that has been repaired using
tire sealant.
The maximum speed for a tire sealed with tire
sealant is 50 mph (80 km/h). The 50 mph
(80 km/h) maximum speed sticker must be
affixed to the instrument cluster within the
driver's field of vision.
!After use, excess tire sealant may run out
of the filler hose. This could cause stains.
Therefore, place the filler hose in the
plastic bag that contained the TIREFIT kit.
HEnvironmental note
Have the used tire sealant bottle disposed
of professionally, e.g. at a qualified spe-
cialist workshop.
If a tire pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi)
has been achieved after 10 minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of
the faulty tire.
XStow the tire sealant bottle and the tire
inflation compressor.
XPull away immediately.
XStop after driving for approximately
2 miles (3 km) and check the tire pressure
with the tire inflation compressor.
The tire pressure must now be at least
130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi).

XStart the engine.
XBefore disconnecting the jumper cables, let the engine run for several minutes.
XFirst disconnect the jump lead from negative terminal0085and negative terminal 0087and then
from positive terminal 0043and positive terminal 0044. Begin each time at the contacts on your
own vehicle first.
XAttach the protective cover to positive terminal 0043.
XHave the battery checked at a qualified specialist workshop.
iJump-starting is not considered to be a normal operating condition.
iJumper cables and further information regarding jump starting can be obtained at any
qualified specialist workshop.
Towing and tow-starting
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Functions relevant to safety are restricted or no longer available if:
Rthe engine is not running
Rthe brake system or the power steering is
malfunctioning
Rthere is a malfunction in the power sup-
ply or the vehicle's electrical system
When your vehicle is towed away or towed
started, you may require considerably more
effort to steer and brake. There is a risk of
an accident.
In such cases, use a tow bar. Before being
towed away or tow started, make sure the
steering moves freely.
GWARNING
You can no longer steer the vehicle if the
steering wheel lock has been engaged.
There is a risk of an accident.
Always switch off the ignition when towing the vehicle with a tow cable or a tow bar.
GWARNING
When towing or tow-starting another vehi-
cle and its weight is greater than the per-
missible gross weight of your vehicle, the:
Rthe towing eye could detach itself
Rthe vehicle/trailer combination could
rollover.
There is a risk of an accident.
When towing or tow-starting another vehi-
cle, its weight should not be greater than
the permissible gross weight of your vehi-
cle.
Information on your vehicle's gross vehicle
weight rating can be found on the vehicle
identification plate (
Ypage 205).
!Do not use the towing eyes for recovery
purposes as this could damage the vehicle.
If in doubt, recover the vehicle with a
crane.
!Drive slowly and smoothly when towing.
Excessive tractive power could otherwise
damage the vehicles.
!Do not tow with sling-type equipment.
This could damage the vehicle.
!The vehicle can be towed a maximum of
30 miles (50km). The towing speed of 30 mph (50 km/h) must not be exceeded.
If the vehicle has to be towed more than
30 miles (50km), the entire vehicle must be
raised and transported.
!Vehicles with automatic transmission
must not be started by tow-starting. This
could otherwise damage the transmission.
