The needle indicators may move slightly

CAUTION
. For cleaning, use a soft cloth, dam-
pened with water. Never use a rough
cloth, alcohol, benzine, thinner or
any kind of solvent or paper towel
with a chemical cleaning agent.
They will scratch or cause discolora-
tion to the lens.
. Do not spray any liquid such as
water on the meter lens. Spraying
liquid may cause the system to
malfunction.

FUEL GAUGEGUID-353F5508-A471-4C58-AF18-C779D3376019The gauge*1indicates theapproximate fuel
level in the tank.
The gauge may move slightly during braking,
turning, acceleration, or going up or down hills.
Refill the fuel tank before the gauge
registers 0 (empty) .
The low fuel warning light
illuminates when
the amount of fuel in the tank is getting low.
Refuel as soon as it is convenient, preferably
before the gauge reaches 0. There will be a
small reserve of fuel in the tank when the fuel
gauge reaches 0.
The
indicates that the fuel-filler door is
located on the front passenger's side of the
vehicle.
CAUTION
. If the vehicle runs out of fuel, the
malfunction indicator light (MIL)
may come on. Refuel as soon as
possible. After a few driving trips,
the
light should turn off. If the
light remains on after a few driving
trips, have the vehicle inspected by
a NISSAN dealer. .

When the outside air temperature becomes
378F (38C) or lower, the outside air temperature
display blinks to give a warning. The display will
stop blinking after 1 minute or when the outside
air temperature becomes 398F (48C) or above.
The display may differ from the actual outside
temperature displayed on various signs or bill-
boards.

main switch is pushed. The light turns off when
the main switch is pushed again. When the
cruise indicator light illuminates, the cruise
control system is operational.
Cruise malfunction:

engine is running, it may indicate the cruise
control system is not functioning properly. Have
the system checked by a NISSAN dealer.

Engine start operation indicator
light
GUID-1D3C34B9-B054-4186-8E35-F8A348777616This light appears when the shift lever is in the P
(Park) position (Continuously Variable Transmis-
sion (CVT) models) or N (Neutral) position
(Manual Transmission (MT) models) . This light
means that the engine will start by pushing the
ignition switch with the brake pedal (CVT
models) or clutch pedal (MT models) depressed.
You can start the engine directly in any position.
Exterior light indicatorGUID-B9DA9F59-94DD-479E-A4ED-F9B3237B5784This indicator illuminates when the headlight
switch is turned to the AUTO (if so equipped) ,
orposition and the front parking lights,
instrument panel lights, rear combination lights,
license plate lights or headlights are on. The
indicator turns off when these lights are turned
off.
Front fog light indicator light (if so
equipped)

when the front fog lights are on. (See ªFog light

on the center of the instrument panel) will be lit
and the passenger front air bag will be OFF
depending on how the front passenger seat is
being used.

High beam indicator lightGUID-849B231E-AF14-45BE-A788-A0C55B5A4C93This light illuminates when the headlight high
beam is on and goes out when the low beam is
selected.
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)GUID-105F7DF5-6121-4EF4-AFAC-8D8C431A8A2EIf the malfunction indicator light comes on
steady or blinks while the engine is running, it
may indicate a potential emission control and/or
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) mal-
function.
The malfunction indicator light may also illumi-
nate steady if the fuel-filler cap is loose or
missing, or if the vehicle runs out of fuel. Check
to make sure the fuel-filler cap is installed and
closed tightly, and that the vehicle has at least 3
US gallons (11.4 liters) of fuel in the fuel tank.
After a few driving trips, the
light should
turn off if no other potential emission control
system malfunction exists.
If this indicator light remains on for 20 seconds
and then blinks for 10 seconds when the engine
is not running, it indicates that the vehicle is not
ready for an emission control system inspection/
maintenance test. (See ªReadiness for Inspec-
tion/Maintenance (I/M) testº (P.9-21) .) Operation:
GUID-F83C168B-173D-4313-B631-F712588C0463The malfunction indicator light will come on in
one of two ways:
.
Malfunction indicator light illuminated steady
Ð An emission control system and/or CVT
malfunction has been detected. Check the
fuel-filler cap if the LOOSE FUEL CAP
warning message is displayed on the twin
trip odometer. If the fuel-filler cap is loose or
missing, tighten or install the cap and
continue to drive the vehicle. The
light
should turn off after a few driving trips. If the
light does not turn off after a few driving
trips, have the vehicle inspected by a
NISSAN dealer. You do not need to have
your vehicle towed to the dealer.
. Malfunction indicator light blinking Ð An
engine misfire has been detected which may
damage the emission control system.
To reduce or avoid emission control system
damage:
1) Do not drive at speeds above 45 MPH
(72 km/h) .
2) Avoid hard acceleration or deceleration.
3) Avoid steep uphill grades.
4) If possible, reduce the amount of cargo being hauled or towed.
The malfunction indicator light may stop
blinking and remain on. Have the vehicle inspected by a NISSAN
dealer. You do not need to have your vehicle
towed to the dealer.
CAUTION
Continued vehicle operation without
having the emission control system
and/or CVT system checked and re-
paired as necessary could lead to poor
driveability, reduced fuel economy, and
possible damage to the emission con-
trol system.
Security indicator lightGUID-5BBF01E2-3135-4B2A-BA68-00E15944E42AThe light blinks when the ignition switch is in the
ACC, OFF or LOCK position. This function
indicates the security system equipped on the
vehicle is operational.
If the security system is malfunctioning, this light
will remain on while the ignition switch is in the
ON position. For additional information, see
ªSecurity systemsº (P.2-32) .

Pulling up the wiper arm:
The windshield wipers must be in the service
position in order to replace the wiper blades.
To move the wiper blades to the service position,
follow this procedure:
.When the ignition switch is in the ªONº
position or within 60 seconds of placing the
ignition switch to the ªOFFº position, lift the
lever up
*4two times in less than 0.5
seconds. The windshield wipers will move to
the service position automatically, and the
wiper blades can now be replaced. To
replace the wiper blades, see ªWindshield
wiper bladesº (P.8-18).
To move the wiper blades back to the original
position:
. Lift the lever up
*4or push the lever down
to operate at any wiper speed.
CAUTION
. This function can be operated even
if the ignition switch is in the ªONº
position. However, to prevent an
accident or damage when pulling
up the wiper arm, be sure to observe
the following precautions. Ð Make sure the shift lever is in
the P (Park) position (Continu-
ously Variable Transmission
models) .
Ð Make sure the shift lever is in the N (Neutral) position, with the
parking brake fully applied
(Manual Transmission models) .
Ð Never allow the passengers to operate the windshield wiper
switch inadvertently.
. Do not operate the windshield wiper
while the wiper arm is pulled up. The
wiper arm may be damaged.

WARNING
In freezing temperatures the washer
solution may freeze on the rear window
glass and obscure your vision. Warm
the rear window with the defroster
before you wash the rear window.
CAUTION
.Do not operate the washer continu-
ously for more than 30 seconds.
. Do not operate the washer if the
reservoir tank is empty.
. Do not fill the window washer
reservoir tank with washer fluid
concentrates at full strength. Some
methyl alcohol based washer fluid
concentrates may permanently stain
the grille if spilled while filling the
window washer reservoir tank.
. Pre-mix washer fluid concentrates
with water to the manufacturer's
recommended levels before pouring
the fluid into the window washer
reservoir tank. Do not use the
