greatest fuel economy are listed below.  Whenever accelerating from a stop, always accelerate
slowly and smoothly.
 When parked for even a short period, do not idle the engine. Shut it off. Plan your trips to avoid unnecessary stops.  Keep your tires inflated to the recom- mended pressures.  When driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle on highways or dry improved roads, set thedrive mode to “4WD ECO” or “4WD AUTO” (Electronically controlled 4WD), or “AWC ECO” or “NORMAL” (S-AW C ) .  For freeway driving, maintain a speed of approximately 50 mph (80 km/h) whentraffic, roadway and weather conditions safely permit.

 To listen to the audio system while the engine is not running, turn the ignitionswitch to the “ACC”
position or put the oper-
ation mode in ACC. If the ignition switch
or the operation mode
is left in ACC, the accessory power will automatically turn off after a certain period of time and you will no
longer be able to use
the audio system. The accessory power comes on again if the ignition switch or the engine switch is operated with it in the“ACC” position. Refer to “ACC power auto- cutout function” on page 5-19 and 5-60.  If a cellular phone is used inside the vehicle, it may create noise in
the audio equipment.
This does not mean that anything is wrongwith your audio equipmen
t. In such a case,
use the cellular phone at a place as far away as possible from the audio equipment.
 If foreign objects or wa
ter get into the audio
equipment, or if smoke or a strange odorcomes from it, immediately turn off theaudio system and have
it checked at an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice. Never try torepair it yourself. Avoid using the audio sys- tem until it is inspected by a qualified per- son.  If the audio system is damaged by foreign objects, water, or fire, have the systemchecked by a qualified Mitsubishi Motors technician.

The engine coolant rese
rve tank (A) lets you
quickly see when you need to add coolant. When the engine is cold, the level of the cool- ant in the reserve tank should be between theFULL and LOW marks. The radiator usually stays full so there is no reason to remove the radiator cap (B) except when you check the coolant freeze point or
replace the antifreeze
coolant.

The radiator cap must be sealed tight to pre- vent losing coolant, which may result in engine damage. Only use a Mitsubishi Motors Genuine Parts radiator cap, or anapproved equivalent.
 Do not overfill the reserve tank.  Your vehicle uses a
special radiator cap
that stays sealed and lets the coolant flow from the reserve tank back to the radiator when the engine cools down. If you needto change the cap, use the exact same kind.  Check the coolant freeze point in the radi- ator with the proper gauge, and only when it is safe. If you add antifreeze, the con- tents of the reserve ta
nk must be protected
against freezing.  Keep the front of the radiator and con- denser clean. If the engine coolan
t temperature does not
rise after the engine
is warmed-up, take
your vehicle to an au
thorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice to have the thermostat checked, and replaced if necessary.

properly. Replace it
with a new filter using the schedule in the“WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL”. 1. For 2.4 L models, remove the two clips (A), then remove the Air duct (B). 2. For 2.4 L models,
while holding down the
tab (C), pull out the connector (D).
 The required concentration of anti-freeze dif- fers depending on the
expected ambient tem-
perature.Above -31 °F (-35 °C):
50 % concentration
of anti-freeze Below -31 °F (-35 °C): 60 % concentrationof anti-freeze You can check the concen
tration level with a
gauge from an automotive supply store, oryour authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or service station can check it for you. Do not use water to adjust the concentration of coolant. Do not top off the tank with plain water only. Water by itself boils at
a lower temperature
and does not stop rust or freezing. If thewater freezes, it will
damage your cooling
system. Do not use ta
pwater. It can cause
corrosion and rust.
Radiator cap
CAUTION
WA R N I N G Wait for the engine to cool down before opening the radiator
cap. Otherwise hot
steam or boiling coolant could spray upfrom the radiator and scald you.

3. Unclamp the cover. Open up the top of the cover and take out th
e air cleaner filter.
4. Replace the air cleane
r filter and put the
cover back on in its original position.
5. For 2.4 L models, put the duct back on in its original position.

 Mitsubishi Motors Genuine Parts are recom- mended when replacing th
e air cleaner filter.
 For 2.4 L models, make
sure that the connec-
tor is properly reconnected.  After replacing the air cleaner filter, make sure that the hinges at the bottom of coverare firmly set.3.0 L models
