For the best fuel economy and performance in using your manual transaxle, upshift as listed below. At low altitude locations, shift at the vehicle speeds listed. Upshifting earlier during cruiseconditions (relatively steady speeds) will improve your fuel economy.
At high altitude locations, upshift as listed below.

It is recommended that you downshift to alower gear when needed to maintain thedesired speed, according to the table.Avoid downshifting at too high a speed. The engine may suffer damage.
To maintain a safe speed and prolong brake life, shift down to 2nd or 1st when descend- ing a steep hill. Downshifting is also important to avoid “lug-ging” the engine at too low a speed, such as when turning a corner or when driving up a steep hill.

NOTE
 The gearshift indicator shows recommended gearshift points for fuel-efficient driving. It shows a “ ” when an upshift is recom- mended, and it shows a “ ” when a down- shift is recommended.

Cruise control is an automatic speed control system. It lets you keep the same driving speed. Cruise control can be activated atabout 25 mph (40 km/h)
or more. It is espe-
cially useful for freeway driving. Cruise con- trol does not work at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h).
To activate and deactivate the cruise control function. To reduce the set speed and to set the speed of constant-speed driving. To increase the set speed and to resume to the previous set speed. To terminate constant-speed driving.
CAUTION If the warning display appears while the engine is running, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer ora repair facility of
your choice as soon as
possible. It may become harder to turn the steering wheel.
Cruise control
(if so equipped)
CAUTION For safety reasons, the cruise control system should be set to the “OFF” position by press- ing the “ON OFF” switch (A) when you are not using the cruise control system. Do not use cruise control when driving con- ditions will not allow you to stay at the same speed, such as in heavy traffic or on roadsthat are winding, icy, snowy, wet, slippery or on a steep downhill slope. On vehicles with manual transaxle, do not move the gearshift lever to the “N” (Neutral) position while driving at a set speed withoutdepressing the clutch pedal. The engine will run too fast and might be damaged. NOTE
 Cruise control may not be able to keep your speed on uphills or downhills.  Your speed may drop on a steep uphill. You may have to use the accelerator pedal if you want to stay at your set speed.  Your speed may increase to more than the set speed on a steep downhill. You must use the brake to control your speed.

1. With the ignition switch in the “ON” posi- tion, press the “ON OFF” switch (A) to turn on the cruise control. The “CRUISE” indicator light in the meter cluster willcome on.
2. Accelerate or decelerate to your desired speed, then press and release the “COAST SET” switch (B) when the “CRUISE” indicator light is illuminated. The vehiclewill then maintain the desired speed.

There are 2 ways to increase the set speed. If you press and hold down the “ACC RES” switch (C), the speed will gradually increase. When you reach your desired speed, releasethe switch.  When operating the cruise control switches, correctly press each cruise control switch. The cruise control may be turned off auto- matically if two or more of the cruise control switches are pressed at the same time.
To activate

NOTE
 If the cruise control is on when the ignition switch is turned to “LOCK” or “ACC” posi- tion, cruise control will turn on automatically and the “CRUISE” control indicator will illuminate the next time you start the engine.  If the battery voltage is insufficient, the memory data for the cruise control will beerased. As a result, the “CRUISE” control indicator may not come on when you restart the engine. If this happens, press the “ONOFF” switch once again to activate the cruise control.
NOTE
 The speed when you released the “COAST SET” switch will be set as the cruising speed.

the “ACC RES” switch (C), the speed will increase by approximately 1 mph (1.6 km/h). Use the accelerator pedal to reach your desired speed. Press the “COAST SET” switch (B) and release the switch momen- tarily to set a new desired cruising speed.

The cruise control can be turned off as fol- lows:  Press the “ON OFF” switch (A). (Cruise control will be turned off.)  Press the “CANCEL” switch (D).  Depress the brake pedal or lightly tap it.
The cruise control will be turned off automat- ically in the following conditions:  When you depress the clutch pedal (on vehicles with manual transaxle).  Your speed slows to about 10 mph (15 km/h) or more below the set speed because of an uphill, etc.  Your speed slows to about 25 mph (40 km/h) or less.
 When the active stability control (ASC) starts operating (if so equipped). Refer to “Active stability control (ASC)” on page 5-76.
Also, the set speed driving may be deacti- vated as follow:  When the engine speed rises and approaches the tachometer’s red zone (the red-colored part of the tachometer dial).

WA R N I N G On vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT), although the cruisecontrol will be disengaged when shifting to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position, never move the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL)position while driving. You would have no engine braking and this could cause a serious accident.CAUTION When the set speed driving is deactivated automatically in any situation other than those listed above, there may be a system malfunction.Press the “ON OFF” switch to turn off the cruise control and have your vehicle inspected by an authorized MitsubishiMotors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

WA R N I N G The spare wheel does not have a tire infla- tion pressure sensor. When the spare tire is used, the tire pres- sure monitoring system will not workproperly. See an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible to replace orrepair the original tire.

 The tire pressure monitoring system is not a substitute for regularly checking tire infla- tion pressures. Be sure to check the tire inflation pressures as described in “Tires” on page 9-14.  The tire inflation pressure sensor (B) is installed in the illustrated location.Replace grommet and washer (C) with a new one when the tire is replaced.
