After
several
attempts,
you
may
experience
that the engine still does not start.1.Make
sure
that
all
electric
devices,
such
as
lights,
air
conditioning
blower
and
rear
window defogger
, are turned of
f.
2.While
depressing
the
brake
pedal
on
vehi-
cles
equipped
with
continuously
variable
transmission
(CVT)
or the
clutch
pedal
on
the
vehicles
equipped
with
manual
trans-
axle,
press
the
accelerator
pedal
halfway
and
hold
it there,
then
crank
the
engine.
Release
the
accelerator
pedal,
immedi-
ately after the engine starts.3.If the
engine
still
will
not
start,
the
engine
could
be
flooded
with
too
much
gasoline.
While
depressing
the
brake
pedal
on
vehi-
cles
equipped
with
CVT
or
the
clutch
pedal
on
the
vehicles
equipped
with
man-
ual
transaxle,
push
the
accelerator
pedal
all the
way
down
and
hold
it there,
then
crank
the
engine
for
5
to
6
seconds.
Return
the
ignition
switch
to the
“LOCK”
position
and
release
the
accelerator
pedal.
Wait
a few
seconds,
and
then
crank
the
engine
again
for
5 to
6 seconds
while
depressing
the
brake
pedal
or
the
clutch
pedal,
but
do
not
push
the
accelerator
pedal.
Release
the
ignition
key
if
the
engine
starts.
If the
engine
fails
to
start,
repeat
these
procedures.
If the
engine
still
will
not
start,
contact
your
local
Mitsubi-
shi
Motors
dealer
or
a repair
facility
of
your choice for assistance.
When
the
ambient
temperature
is
-4°F
(-20
°C)
or
lower
, it may
not
be
possible
to
start
from
a standstill
even
with
the
selector
lever
in
the
“D”
(DRIVE)
or
“R”
(REVERSE) position. This
phenomenon
occurs
because
the
trans-
axle has
not warmed
up sufficiently
; it does
not
indicate
a problem.
If this
occurs,
place
the
selector
lever
in the
“P”
(PARK)
position
and let the engine idle for at least 10
minutes.
The
transaxle
will
warm
up,
and
you
will
be
able to drive normally
.
Do
not
leave
the
vehicle
during
warm-up
operation.

electronic
immobilizer
is designed
to sig-
nificantly
reduce
the
possibility
of
vehicle
theft.
The
purpose
of
the
system
is to immo-
bilize
the
vehicle
if
an
invalid
start
is
attempted.
A valid
start
attempt
can
only
be
achieved
(subject
to certain
conditions)
using
a F.A.S.T
.-Key
“registered”
to
the
immobi-
lizer system.

 There is a fault in the engine oil circula- tion system.
 Park your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible and contact an autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice to have the system checked. Refer to “Oil pressure warning display” on page 5-126.
 There is a fault in the charging system.
Park your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible and contact an autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice for assis- tance. Refer to “Charging system warning dis-play” on page 5-126.
 There is a fault in the SRS airbag or the seat belt pre-tensioner system.
 Contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice to have the system checked, immediately. Refer to “SRS warning light/display” on page 4-26.
 There is a fault in the Active Stability Control (ASC).

WA R N I N G Do not put a hanger or any heavy or pointed object on the coat hook. If the cur- tain airbag was activated, any such item could be propelled away with great force and could prevent the curtain airbag frominflating correctly. Hang clothes directly on the coat hook (without using a hanger). Make sure there are no heavy or sharpobjects in the pockets of clothes that you hang on the coat hook.

Check the fluid level in the reservoir while the engine is idling. Check to make certain that the power steering fluid level is always between the “MAX” and“MIN” level markings on the fluid reservoirand refill the fluid, if necessary.

The electrolyte level must be between the limits shown on the outside of the battery. Fillit with distilled water as needed. The inside of the battery is divided into several compart- ments. Take the cap off of each compartmentand fill to the mark. Do not fill above the top line because a spill during driving could cause damage.

The battery is weaker in cold temperatures.This has to do with its chemical and physical properties and is why a very cold battery, especially one with a low charge, will have ahard time starting your vehicle. WA R N I N G If the battery goes flat, be sure to check the battery electrolyte level before con- necting booster cables. After checking the battery electrolyte level, make sure the caps are fitted securely. If any of the caps has a loose fit, replace the battery.

To prevent damage to the electrical system from short-circuiting or overloading, eachindividual circuit is equipped with a fuse. The fuse blocks are located in the passenger com- partment and in the engine compartment. The fuse blocks in the passenger compart- ment are located behind the fuse lid on the driver’s side as shown.
1. Open the fuse lid and pull to remove it. 2. For vehicles with the bottom cover, use the puller to loosen the 2 clips (A) and push down the bottom cover. The puller is in the fuse block in the engine compart-ment. Refer to “Fuse replacement” on page 9-28.
3. To put back the fuse lid, line up the fuse lid hook (B) with the clamp (C) on theinstrument panel and push the lid back in.

WA R N I N G When changing fuses, do not damage the driver’s knee airbag harness or acciden- tally strike the airbag area with hard objects. Improper work methods could result in an accidental driver’s knee air-bag deployment or could make the driver’s knee airbag inoperable. Either of these situations could result in seriousinjury or death.NOTE
 When finished, be sure to return the puller to the fuse block in the engine compartment.
