1. Park the vehicle in the shade whenever possible. Parking in the hot sun makes the vehicle interior extremely hot which then requires more time to cool. If it is neces-sary to park in the sun, open the windows for the first few minutes of air condition- ing to expel the hot air.2. Afterwards, keep the windows closed when the air conditioning is in use. The entry of outside air through open windowswill reduce cooling efficiency. 3. When running the air conditioning, make sure the air intake, which is located infront of the windshield, is free of obstruc- tions such as leaves. Leaves collected in the air-intake chamber may reduce airflow and plug the water drains.
If the air conditioning seems less effective than usual, the cause might be a refrigerant leak.Have the system inspected by your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.
The air conditioning should be operated for at least five minutes each week, even in coldweather. This includes the quick defrosting mode. Operating the air condition system weekly maintains lubrication of the compres-sor internal parts to keep the air conditioning in the best operating condition.

The air conditioning system is equipped with an air filter to remove pollen and dust. The air filter’s ability to collect pollen and dirt is reduced as it becomes dirty, so replaceit periodically. For the maintenance interval, refer to the “WARRANTY AND MAINTE- NANCE MANUAL”.
 When defrosting, do not set the temperature control dial to the maximum cool position. This will blow cool air on the window glass and fog it up.

CAUTION The air conditioning system in your vehicle must be charged with the refrigerant HFC-134a and the lubricant SUN-PAG56. Use of any other refrigerant or lubricant will cause severe damage and may require replac-ing your vehicle’s entire air conditioning system. The release of refrigerant into the atmo-sphere is not recommended. The new refrigerant HFC-134a in your vehi- cle is designed not to harm the earth’s ozonelayer. However, it may contribute slightly to global warming. It is recommended that the old refrigerant be saved and recycled for future use.

 Fingerprints or other marks on the read surface of the disc may result in its con- tent being more difficult to read. When holding the disc, grip both edges, or oneedge and the center hole, in order that the read surface is not touched.  Do not affix paper or stickers, or other- wise damage the disc.  Do not forcefully insert a disc if another is already within the device. This can resultin damage to discs, or malfunction.  Periodically clean the read surface of the disc. When cleaning, do not wipe in a cir- cular motion. Instead, wipe gently out- wards from the center of the disc to theouter edge.  New discs may have burring around the outer edge or in the hole in the center.Ensure you check for these. If there are burrs, these may lead to faulty operation, therefore ensure these are removed.  When not using discs, ensure these are kept in cases, and stored out of direct sun- light.
 If discs are not going to be used for a long period of time, remove these from the product.
In cold environments such as in mid-winter when the interior of the vehicle is cold, turn-ing the heater on and immediately trying to use the product may cause condensation (water droplets) to form on the disc and inter-nal optical components, and this may preventthe product from operating correctly. In these conditions, remove the disc, and wait a short time before use. Actions such as unauthorized reproduction, broadcast, public performance, or rental of discs that comprise other than personal use are prohibited by law.

Your vehicle’s radio receives both AM and FM stations. The quality of your reception is affected bydistance, obstacles, and signal interference. This radio complies with Part 15 of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules (for vehicles sold in U.S.A.). Operation issubject to the following conditions:  The device may not cause harmful inter- ference.  This device must accept any interference recieved, including interference that may cause undesirable operation.
FM signals do not follow the earth surface nor are they reflected by the upper atmo- sphere. For this reason, FM broadcasts cannotbe received over long distances. AM signals follow the earth’s surface and are reflected by the upper atmosphere. For this reason, AMbroadcasts can be received over longer dis- tances. Because of the limited range of FM signals and the way FM waves transmit, you mayexperience weak or fading FM reception. When the broadcast is blocked by mountains or similar obstructions, reception can be dis-turbed.
The reason why one can hear FM but not AM in parking garages, under bridges etc., is that FM signals, unlike AM signals, are reflectedby solid objects such as buildings, etc. Because FM signals are easily reflected by buildings, this can also cause reception dis-turbances. The direct signal from
the broadcast station
reaches the antenna slightly before thereflected signal. This time difference maycause some reception disturbance or flutter. This problem occurs primarily in urban areas.
 The time can also be set using another proce- dure. Refer to “System Settings” on page 7-49.

If one listens to a weak station and is in the vicinity of another strong station, both sta- tions might be received simultaneously. Stereo reception requires a high quality broadcast signal. This means that types of disturbances mentioned previously become more marked and the reception range issomewhat diminished during stereo recep- tion.
FM reception is affected by the electrical sys- tems of vehicles in the vicinity, especially those without an electro
nic noise suppression
device. The disturbance is even greater if the station is weak or poorly tuned. FM reception is not as sensitive to electricaldisturbances as AM. AM reception is sensi- tive to electrical disturbances such as power lines, lightning and other types of similarelectrical phenomena.

If your vehicle breaks down on the road, move to the shoulder and turn on the hazardwarning flashers. If there is no shoulder, or the shoulder is not safe, drive in the right lane slowly, with the hazard lights flashing, untilyou come to a safe stopping place. Keep the flashers flashing. If the engine stops, there will be no power assist to the steering and brakes, making these difficult to use.  The brake booster will not work, so the brakes will not grip well. The brake pedalwill be harder to press than usual.  Since there is no power steering assist, the steering wheel will be hard to turn.

If the engine cannot be started because the battery is weak or dead, you can start it withthe battery from another vehicle using jumper cables. 1. Take off any metal jewelry such as watch bands or bracelets that might make an accidental electrical contact. 2. Position the vehicles close enough together so that the jumper cables can reach, but be sure the vehicles aren’ttouching each other.
3. You could be injured if the vehicles move. Set the parking brake firmly on each vehi-cle. Put an automatic transaxle, CVT in “P” (PARK) or a manual transaxle in “N” (Neutral). Turn the ignition key to the“LOCK” position. 4. Make sure your battery electrolyte is at the proper level. (Refer to “Checking bat- tery electrolyte level” on page 9-12.)

Jump-starting the engine
WA R N I N G When using jumper cables to start a vehi- cle, follow the procedures and be very cau- tious. CAUTION Do not try to start your vehicle by pushing or towing. Vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT) cannot be started this way. Pushing or towing a vehicle that has amanual transaxle may overheat and damage the catalytic converter. Also, there is more risk of an accident when a vehicle is beingpushed or towed.
CAUTION Check the other vehicle. It must have a 12- volt battery. If the other system isn’t 12-volt, both systems can be damaged.WA R N I N G Turn the ignition key to the “LOCK” posi- tion on both vehicles. Make sure that thecables or your clothes cannot be caught by the fan or drive belt. Personal injury could result. NOTE
 Turn off all lights, heater, and other electrical loads. This will avoid sparks and help save both batteries.

If you drive your vehicle with a low battery charge, after the engine has been started by using jumper cables, the engine may misfire. This can cause the anti-lock braking systemwarning light to blink on and off. This is only due to the low battery voltage. It is not a problem with the brake system. If this hap-pens, fully charge the battery and ensure the charging system is operating properly.

When the engine has overheated, the infor- mation screen in the multi-information dis-play will be interrupted and the engine coolant temperature warning display will appear. The screen will then change to theengine coolant temperature display screen and “ ” will flash. If this happens: 1. Stop the vehicle in a safe place. Turn on the hazard warning flashers. 2. With the engine still running, carefullyraise the engine hood to vent the engine compartment. 3. Check that the cooling fan is running. Ifthe fan is not turning, stop the engine immediately and contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facil-ity of your choice for assistance. 4. If you see steam or spray coming from under the hood, turn off the engine.
5. If you do not see steam or spray coming from under the hood, leave the engine on until the bar graph for the engine coolant temperature warning display on the multi-information display goes down. When it is in the middle of the normal zone, you can start driving again. If the bar graphstays in the red zone, turn off the engine. 6. When you do not see any more steam or spray, open the hood. Look for obvious leaks, such as a split radiator hose. Be careful as components will be hot. Anyleak source must be repaired. 7. If there is no obvious leak source, check the coolant level in the reserve tank. Ifthere is none, or if it is too low, slowly add coolant. 8. If the reserve tank needs coolant, you willprobably also need to add coolant to the radiator. Do not loosen or remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooleddown.
 Remove all the caps before charging the battery.  Electrolyte (battery acid) is corrosive diluted sulphuric acid. If electrolyte comesin contact with your hands, eyes, clothes, or the painted surface of your vehicle, thoroughly flush with water. If electrolytegets in your eyes, flush them immediately and thoroughly with water, and get prompt medical attention. Always wear protective clothing and gog- gles when working near the battery. Keep the battery out of the reach of chil- dren.

Before changing a tire, first stop your vehicle in a safe, flat location. 1. Park the vehicle on level and stable ground.2. Set the parking brake firmly. 3. On vehicles with manual transaxle, turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” posi-tion, and move the gearshift lever to the “R” (Reverse) position.
On vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT), move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position, and turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” posi-tion. 4. Turn on the hazard flashers and set up a warning triangle, flashing signal light,etc., at an adequate distance from the vehicle, and have all your passengers leave the vehicle.5. To prevent the vehicle from rolling whenit is raised on the jack, place chocks or blocks (A) at the tire that is diagonally opposite from the tire (B) you are chang-ing.
