Switches and Controls
*Some models.
Fog Lights *
The fog lights can be turned on with the
ignition switched ON and the headlights
turned on.
Use this switch to turn on the fog lights.
The fog lights will improve visibility at
night and during foggy conditions.
The fog lights turn on when the fog light
switch is turned to the
position and turn
off when the switch is turned to the

position.

The fog lights will turn off when the
headlights are set at high beams.
 


Turn and Lane-Change
Signals
The ignition must be switched ON to use
the turn and lane-change signals.
Turn Signals
Move the signal lever down (for a left
turn) or up (for a right turn) to the stop
position. The signal will self-cancel after
the turn is completed.

If the indicator light continues to À ash
after a turn, manually return the lever to its
original position.

The turn signal indicators in the instrument
cluster À ash according to the operation of
the turn signal lever to show which signal
is working.



N O T E
 


y If an indicator light stays on without
À ashing or if it À ashes abnormally, one
of the turn signal bulbs may be burned

change the turn indicator sound volume.

Rear Window Defogger
The rear window defogger clears fog from
the rear window.

The ignition must be switched ON to use
the defogger.

Press the switch to turn on the rear
window defogger. The rear window
defogger operates for about 15 minutes
and then turns off automatically.
The indicator light illuminates when the
defogger is operating.

To turn off the rear window defogger
before the 15 minutes has elapsed, press
the switch again.

CAUTION
Do not use sharp instruments or
window cleaners with abrasives to
clean the inside of the rear window
surface. They may damage the
defogger grid inside the window.

N O T E
This defogger is not designed for melting
snow. If there is an accumulation of snow
on the rear window, remove it before using
the defogger.

Mirror Defogger *
The mirror defoggers defrost the outside
mirrors.

The mirror defoggers operate in
conjunction with the rear window
defogger.
To turn on the mirror defoggers, switch
the ignition ON and press the rear window
defogger switch (page 4-61 ).

The timing in which the system switches the headlights changes under the following
conditions. If the system does not switch the headlights appropriately, manually switch
between high and low beams according to the visibility as well as road and traf¿ c
conditions.
 


y When there are sources of light in the area such as street lamps, illuminated signboards,
and traf¿ c signals.




y When there are reÀ ective objects in the surrounding area such as reÀ ective plates and
signs.
 


y When visibility is reduced under rain, snow and foggy conditions.



y When driving on roads with sharp turn or hilly terrain.



y When the headlights/rear lamps of vehicles in front of you or in the opposite lane are dim
or not illuminated.
 


y When there is suf¿ cient darkness such as at dawn or dusk.



y When the luggage compartment is loaded with heavy objects or the rear passenger seats
are occupied.
 


y When visibility is reduced due to a vehicle in front of you spraying water from its tires
onto your windshield.

y In the following case, the À ashing of the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator
light, and the activation of the warning sound and the warning screen indicator display
may not occur or they may be delayed.
 


y A vehicle makes a lane change from a driving lane two lanes over to an adjacent lane.



y Driving on steep slopes.



y Crossing the summit of a hill or mountain pass.



y The turning radius is small (making a sharp turn, turning at intersections).



y When there is a difference in the height between your driving lane and the adjacent
lane.
 


y Directly after pressing the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) OFF switch and the system
becomes operable.
 


y If the road width is extremely narrow, vehicles two lanes over may be detected.
The detection area of the radar sensors (rear) is set according to the road width of
expressways.
 


y The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator light may turn on and the vehicle
detection screen may be displayed in the display in reaction to stationary objects
(guardrails, tunnels, sidewalls, and parked vehicles) on the road or the roadside.

such as a bicycle carrier is installed to the rear of the vehicle. Otherwise, the radar’s
radio waves will be blocked causing the system to not operate normally.
 


y In the following cases, it may be dif¿ cult to view the illumination/À ashing of the Blind
Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights equipped on the door mirrors.
 


y Snow or ice is adhering to the door mirrors.



y The front door glass is fogged or covered in snow, frost or dirt.

Forward driving (Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) operation)
The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) detects vehicles approaching from the rear and turns on
the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights equipped on the door mirrors
according to the conditions. Additionally, while a Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning
indicator light is illuminated, if the turn signal lever is operated to signal a turn in the
direction in which the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator light is illuminated,
the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator light À ashes.
Reverse driving (Rear Cross Traf¿ c Alert (RCTA) system operation)
The Rear Cross Traf¿ c Alert (RCTA) system detects vehicles approaching from the left and
right of your vehicle and À ashes the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights.
Function for cancelling illumination dimmer
If the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights turn on when the parking lights
are turned on, the brightness of the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights is
dimmed.
If the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights are dif¿ cult to see due to
glare from surrounding brightness when traveling on snow-covered roads or under foggy
conditions, press the dimmer cancellation button to cancel the dimmer and increase the
brightness of Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights when they turn on.
Refer to Dashboard Illumination on page 4-17 .
Display indicator (Vehicles with multi-information display and active driving display)
The detected approaching vehicle and warning are displayed in the multi-information
display and active driving display when the vehicle is moving forward (Blind Spot
Monitoring (BSM) operational).

The detected direction is displayed with a detection indicator (white) when an approaching
vehicle is detected. In addition, if the turn signal lever is operated to signal a lane change
while the vehicle is detected, the display changes the color (amber) of the warning indicator.

The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning beep is activated simultaneously with the
À ashing of a Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator light.

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) does not operate.

Warning System (LDWS) may not be able to detect white (yellow) lane lines correctly and
it may not operate normally.
 


y If an object placed on the dashboard is reÀ ected in the windshield and picked up by the
camera.
 


y Heavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat and the
vehicle is tilted.
 


y The tire pressures are not adjusted to the speci¿ ed pressure.



y Tires other than conventional tires are equipped.



y When the vehicle is driven on the guiding branch to or from the rest area or tollgate of
a highway.
 


y The white (yellow) lane lines are less visible because of dirt or fading/patchiness.



y A vehicle in front of your vehicle is running near a white (yellow) lane line making it
less visible.
 


y A white (yellow) lane line is less visible because of bad weather (rain, fog, or snow).



y The vehicle is driven on a temporary lane or section with a closed lane resulting
from construction where there may be multiple white (yellow) lane lines or they are
interrupted.
 


y A misleading line is picked up on the road such as a temporary line for construction,
or because of shade, lingering snow, or grooves ¿ lled with water.




y The surrounding brightness suddenly changes such as when entering or exiting a
tunnel.
 


y The illumination of the headlights is weakened because of dirt or the optical axis is
deviated.
 


y The windshield is dirty or foggy.



y The windshield, camera is fogged (water droplets).



y Back-light is reÀ ected off the road surface.



y The road surface is wet and shiny after rain, or there are puddles on the road.



y The shade of a guardrail parallel to a white (yellow) lane line is cast on the road.



y The width of the driving lane is narrow (less than about 2.5 m (98 in)) or wide (more
than about 4.5 m (178 in))
 


y Driving on roads with tight curves.



y The road is excessively uneven.



y The vehicle is shaken after hitting a road bump.



y There are two or more adjacent white (yellow) lane lines.



y There are various road markings or lane markings of various shapes near an
intersection.
