y In the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot detect target objects
correctly, and each system may be unable to operate normally.
y The height of the vehicle ahead is low.
y You drive your vehicle at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
y Headlights are not turned on during the night or when going through a tunnel.
y In the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) may not be able to detect
target objects correctly.
y When driving next to walls with no patterning (including fences and longitudinally
striped walls).
y The taillights of the vehicle ahead are turned off.
y A vehicle is outside the illumination range of the headlights.
y The vehicle is making a sharp turn, or ascending or descending a steep slope.
y Entering or exiting a tunnel.
y Heavy luggage is loaded causing the vehicle to tilt.
y Strong light is shone at the front of the vehicle (back light or high-beam light from on-
coming vehicles).
y There are many light emitters on the vehicle ahead.
y When the vehicle ahead is not equipped with taillights or the taillights are turned off at

y The vehicle ahead has a special shape. For example, a vehicle towing a trailer house
or a boat, or a vehicle carrier carrying a vehicle with its front pointed rearward.

Emergency Starting
Starting a Flooded Engine
If the engine fails to start, it may be
À ooded (excessive fuel in the engine).
Follow this procedure:
1. If the engine does not start within
¿ ve seconds on the ¿ rst try, wait ten
seconds and try again.
2. Make sure the parking brake is on.
3. Depress the accelerator all the way and
hold it there.
4. Depress the brake pedal, then press the
push button start. If the engine starts,
release the accelerator immediately
because the engine will suddenly rev
up.
5. If the engine fails to start, crank it
without depressing the accelerator.
If the engine still does not start using
the above procedure, have your vehicle
inspected by an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Push-Starting
Do not push-start your Mazda.
WARNING
Never tow a vehicle to start it:
Towing a vehicle to start it is
dangerous. The vehicle being towed
could surge forward when its engine
starts, causing the two vehicles to
collide. The occupants could be injured.
N O T E
You cannot start a vehicle with an
automatic transaxle by pushing it.

Towing Description
We recommend that towing be done only
by an Authorized Mazda Dealer or a
commercial tow-truck service.
Proper lifting and towing are necessary to
prevent damage to the vehicle. Particularly
when towing an AWD vehicle, where
all the wheels are connected to the drive
train, proper transporting of the vehicle is
absolutely essential to avoid damaging the
drive system. Government and local laws
must be followed.
Wheel dollies
A towed 2WD vehicle should have its
drive wheels (front wheels) off the ground.
If excessive damage or other conditions
prevent this, use wheel dollies.
When towing a 2WD vehicle with the rear
wheels on the ground, release the parking
brake.
A towed AWD vehicle must have all its
wheels off the ground.
WARNING
Always tow an AWD vehicle with all four
wheels off the ground:
Towing an AWD vehicle with either
the front or rear wheels on the ground
is dangerous as the drive train could
be damaged, or the vehicle could trail
away from the tow truck and cause
an accident. If the drive train has been
damaged, transport the vehicle on a
fl at bed truck.

CAUTION
¾ Do not tow the vehicle pointed
backward with driving wheels on the
ground. This may cause internal damage
to the transaxle.
¾ Do not tow with sling-type equipment.
This could damage your vehicle. Use
wheel-lift or fl atbed equipment.
Towing Hooks (Mexico)
CAUTION
¾ The towing eyelet should be used in an
emergency (to get the vehicle out of a
ditch or a snow bank, for example).
¾ When using the towing eyelets, always
pull the cable or chain in a straight
direction with respect to the eyelet.
Never apply a sideways force.
N O T E
When towing with chain or cable, wrap
the chain or cable with a soft cloth near
the bumper to prevent damage to the
bumper.

Towing Hooks
1. Remove the towing eyelet and the lug
wrench from the luggage compartment
(page 7-3 ).
2. Wrap a À athead screwdriver or similar
tool with a soft cloth to prevent damage
to a painted bumper, and open the cap
located on the front or rear bumper.

Do not use excessive force as it may
damage the cap or scratch the painted
bumper surface.
N O T E
Remove the cap completely and store it so
as not to lose it.
3. Securely install the towing eyelet using
the lug wrench.

4. Hook the towing rope to the towing
eyelet.
CAUTION
¾ If the towing eyelet is not securely
tightened, it may loosen or disengage
from the bumper when towing the
vehicle. Make sure that the towing eyelet
is securely tightened to the bumper.
¾ Be careful not to damage the towing
eyelet and towing hook, vehicle body, or
transaxle system when towing under the
following conditions:
¾ Do not tow a vehicle heavier than
yours.
¾ Do not suddenly accelerate your
vehicle as it will apply a severe shock
to the towing eyelet and towing hook
or rope.
¾ Do not attach any rope other than to
the towing eyelet and towing hook.
