Pregnant women should always wear theirsafety belt. The lap belt portion of acombination lap and shoulder belt shouldbe positioned low across the hips belowthe belly and worn as tight as comfort willallow. The shoulder belt should bepositioned to cross the middle of theshoulder and the center of the chest.
Safety Belt Locking Modes
WARNINGS
After any vehicle crash, the safetybelt system at all passenger seatingpositions must be checked by anauthorized dealer to verify that theautomatic locking retractor feature forchild seats is still functioning properly. Inaddition, all safety belts should be checkedfor proper function.
The belt and retractor assemblymust be replaced if the safety beltassembly automatic locking retractorfeature or any other safety belt function isnot operating properly when checked byan authorized dealer. Failure to replace thebelt and retractor assembly could increasethe risk of injury in crashes.
All safety restraints in the vehicle arecombination lap and shoulder belts. Thedriver safety belt has the first type oflocking mode. The front outboardpassenger and rear seat safety belts haveboth types of locking modes described asfollows:
Vehicle Sensitive Mode
This is the normal retractor mode, whichallows free shoulder belt lengthadjustment to your movements andlocking in response to vehicle movement.For example, if the driver brakes suddenlyor turns a corner sharply, or the vehiclereceives an impact of about 5 mph(8 km/h) or more, the combination safetybelts will lock to help reduce forwardmovement of the driver and passengers.
In addition, the retractor is designed to lockif the webbing is pulled out too quickly. Ifthis occurs, let the belt retract slightly andpull webbing out again in a slow andcontrolled manner.
Automatic Locking Mode
In this mode, the shoulder belt isautomatically pre-locked. The belt will stillretract to remove any slack in the shoulderbelt. The automatic locking mode is notavailable on the driver safety belt.
When to Use the Automatic LockingMode
This mode should be used any time a childsafety seat, except a booster, is installedin passenger front or rear seating positions.Children 12 years old and under should beproperly restrained in a rear seatingposition whenever possible. See ChildSafety (page 15).

How to Use the Automatic LockingMode
1. Buckle the combination lap andshoulder belt.
2. Grasp the shoulder portion and pulldownward until the entire belt is pulledout.
Allow the belt to retract. As the beltretracts, you will hear a clicking sound. Thisindicates the safety belt is now in theautomatic locking mode.
How to Disengage the AutomaticLocking Mode
Unbuckle the combination lap andshoulder belt and allow it to retractcompletely to disengage the automaticlocking mode and activate the vehiclesensitive (emergency) locking mode.
Safety Belt Extension Assembly
WARNING
Do not use extensions to change thefit of the shoulder belt across thetorso.
If the safety belt is too short when fullyextended, a safety belt extension assemblycan be obtained from an authorized dealer.
Use only extensions manufactured by thesame supplier as the safety belt.Manufacturer identification is on a labellocated either at the end of the webbingor on the retractor behind the trim. Also,use the safety belt extension only if thesafety belt is too short for you when fullyextended.
SEATBELT HEIGHT
ADJUSTMENT
WARNING
Position the safety belt heightadjuster so that the belt rests acrossthe middle of your shoulder. Failureto adjust the safety belt properly couldreduce the effectiveness of the safety beltand increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Adjust the height of the shoulder belt sothe belt rests across the middle of yourshoulder.
To adjust the shoulder belt height:
1.Press the side release buttons and slidethe height adjuster up or down.
2. Release the buttons and pull down onthe height adjuster to make sure it islocked in place.

Proper Driver and Front PassengerSeating Adjustment
WARNING
The National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration recommends aminimum distance of at least 10 in(25 cm) between an occupant’s chest andthe driver airbag module.
To properly position yourself away fromthe airbag:
•Move your seat to the rear as far as youcan while still reaching the pedalscomfortably.
•Recline the seat slightly (one or twodegrees) from the upright position.
After all occupants have adjusted theirseats and put on safety belts, it is veryimportant that they continue to sitproperly. Properly seated occupants situpright, lean against the seat back, andcenter themselves on the seat cushion,with their feet comfortably extended onthe floor. Sitting improperly can increasethe chance of injury in a crash event. Forexample, if an occupant slouches, liesdown, turns sideways, sits forward, leansforward or sideways, or puts one or bothfeet up, the chance of injury during a crashis greatly increased.
Children and Airbags
WARNING
Airbags can kill or injure a child in achild seat. Never place a rear-facingchild seat in front of an active airbag.If you must use a forward-facing child seatin the front seat, move the seat upon whichthe child seat is installed all the way back.
Children must always be properlyrestrained. Accident statistics suggest thatchildren are safer when properly restrainedin the rear seating positions than in thefront seating position. Failure to followthese instructions may increase the risk ofinjury in a crash.
SIDE AIRBAGS
WARNINGS
Do not place objects or mountequipment on or near the airbagcover, on the side of the seatbacks(of the front seats), or in front seat areasthat may come into contact with adeploying airbag. Failure to follow theseinstructions may increase the risk ofpersonal injury in the event of a crash.
Do not use accessory seat covers.The use of accessory seat coversmay prevent the deployment of theside airbags and increase the risk of injuryin an accident.
Do not lean your head on the door.The side airbag could injure you as itdeploys from the side of theseatback.

HEATED WINDOWS AND
MIRRORS
Heated Rear Window
Note:Make sure the engine is runningbefore operating the heated windows.
Press the button to clear theheated rear window of thin iceand fog. The heated rear windowwill automatically turn off after a shortperiod of time. Start the engine before youswitch the heated rear window on.
Note:Do not use razor blades or othersharp objects to clean or remove decalsfrom the inside of the heated rear window.The vehicle warranty does not coverdamage caused to the heated rear windowgrid lines.
Heated Exterior Mirror (If Equipped)
When you switch the heated rear windowon, the heated exterior mirrors willautomatically turn on.
Note:Do not remove ice from the mirrorswith a scraper or adjust the mirror glasswhen it is frozen in place.
Note:Do not clean the mirror housing orglass with harsh abrasives, fuel or otherpetroleum-based cleaning products.
REMOTE START (If Equipped)
The remote start feature allows you topre-condition the interior of your vehicle.The climate control system works toachieve comfort according to your previoussettings.
Note:You cannot adjust the system duringremote start operation.
Turn the ignition on to return the systemto its previous settings. You can now makeadjustments normally, but you need to turncertain vehicle-dependent features backon, such as:
•Heated seats.
•Cooled seats.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Heated mirrors.
•Heated rear window.
You can adjust the default remote startsettings using the information displaycontrols. See Information Displays(page 92).
Automatic Settings
In hot weather, the system is set to 72°F(22°C). The cooled seats are set to high(if available, and selected to AUTO in theinformation display).
In moderate weather, the system eitherheats or cools (based on previoussettings). The rear defroster, heatedmirrors and heated seats do notautomatically turn on.
In cold weather, the system is set to 72°F(22°C). The heated seats are set to high(if available, and selected to AUTO in theinformation display). The rear defrosterand heated mirrors automatically turn on.

Second Row Center Seat HeadRestraint
The center rear head restraint is fixed andnon-adjustable. The head restraintconsists of a trimmed foam covering overthe upper structure of the seatback.
Third Row Head Restraints
The third row head restraints are nonadjustable, but you can fold them.
The non-adjustable head restraints consistof:
•A trimmed energy absorbing foam andstructure (A).
•A fold strap (B).
1.Pull the strap to fold the head restraint.
2. Pull the head restraint up to place thehead restraint back to the uprightposition.
MANUAL SEATS (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
Do not adjust the driver seat orseatback when your vehicle ismoving. This may result in suddenseat movement, causing loss of control ofyour vehicle.

Rock the seat backward and forwardafter releasing the lever to make surethat it is fully engaged.

WARNING
Before returning the seatback to itsoriginal position, make sure thatcargo or any objects are not trappedbehind the seatback. After returning theseatback to its original position, pull on theseatback to make sure that it has fullylatched. An unlatched seat may becomedangerous in the event of a sudden stopor crash.
