1. Fold down the second row seat andrelease the handle.
2. Pull the handle up again until the seatreleases from the floor.
3.Push the seat upward and fold it awayfrom the third row.
To return the seat to a seating position:
1. Push the seat down and latch to thefloor.
2. Bring the seatback to an uprightposition. The seatback should lock intoposition.
Note:If the seatback will not return to theupright position, tumble the seat again andre-latch it to the floor. Be sure that cargo orother objects are not trapped underneaththe seatback.
Note:If a squeak is heard from the latcharea, the latch striker pin should be wipedclean of dust or debris.
Exiting the Third Row
1. Pull the strap located at the bottomoutboard of the seatback to releasethe seat from the floor, and rotate theseat up toward the front seat.
2. Follow the directions above to returnthe seat from the E-Z entry to theupright position.
Reclining the Second RowOutboard 40% Seatback
WARNING
Reclining the seatback can cause anoccupant to slide under the seat’ssafety belt, resulting in severepersonal injuries in the event of a crash.

The release handle is located on theoutboard side of the seat cushion. Lift it toadjust the seatback to your desiredposition.
Folding the Second Row Center20% Seat (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
To prevent possible damage to theseat or safety belts, make sure thatthe safety belts are not buckledwhen moving the seat to the load floorposition.
Before returning the seatback to itsoriginal position, make sure thatcargo or any objects are not trappedunderneath the seatback. After returningthe seatback to its original position, pullon the seatback to make sure that it hasfully latched. An unlatched seat maybecome dangerous in the event of asudden stop or crash.
1.Locate the release handle in the upperleft seatback. Pull the handle to releasethe folding seat latch.
2. With the latch released, lower theseatback into the load floor position.

3. To return the seat to the uprightposition, lift the seatback until the latchis fully engaged.
Adjusting the Second Row Center20% Seat (If Equipped)
Note:Move this seat forward to keep achild in a child restraint close to the frontseat occupants. Move the seat to the fullrearward position when it is occupied byolder children or adults, including childrenin booster seats.
Lift the handle to move the seat forwardor backward.
Third Row Seats
Make sure that no objects are on the floorin front of the third row seats or on the seatcushion before lowering them. Make surethat the head restraints are lowered andthe second row seats are not reclined.
Folding Down the Third Row Seatsto the Load Floor
WARNINGS
To prevent possible damage to theseat or safety belts, make sure thatthe safety belts are not buckledwhen moving the seat to the load floorposition.
WARNINGS
Before returning the seatback to itsoriginal position, make sure thatcargo or any objects are not trappedbehind the seatback. After returning theseatback to its original position, pull on theseatback to make sure that it has fullylatched. An unlatched seat may becomedangerous in the event of a sudden stopor crash.
Before folding the third row seats, fold thehead restraints down by pulling on thestrap located at the bottom of therestraint.
Pull up on the handle located behind theseatback while pushing the seatbackforward and down into the seat cushion.

Ignition Modes
The keyless starting system has threemodes:
Off: Turns the ignition off.
•Without applying the brake pedal,press and release the button oncewhen the ignition is in the on mode, orwhen the engine is running but yourvehicle is not moving.
On: All electrical circuits are operationaland the warning lamps and indicatorsilluminate.
•Without applying the brake pedal,press and release the button twice.
Start: Starts the engine.
•Press the brake pedal, and then pressthe button for any length of time. Anindicator light on the button illuminateswhen then ignition is on and when theengine starts.
STARTING A GASOLINE
ENGINE
When you start the engine, the idle speedincreases. This helps to warm up theengine. If the engine idle speed does notslow down automatically, have yourvehicle checked by an authorized dealer.
Note: You can crank the engine for a totalof 60 seconds without the engine startingbefore the starting system temporarilydisables. The 60 seconds does not have tobe all at once. For example, if you crank theengine three times for 20 seconds eachtime, without the engine starting, youreached the 60-second time limit. Amessage appears in the information displayalerting you that you exceeded the crankingtime. You cannot attempt to start theengine for at least 15 minutes. After 15minutes, you are limited to a 15-secondengine cranking time. You need to wait 60minutes before you can crank the engine for60 seconds again.
Before starting your vehicle, check thefollowing:
•Make sure all occupants have fastenedtheir safety belts.
•Make sure the headlamps andelectrical accessories are off.
•Make sure the parking brake is on.
•Make sure the transmission is in park(P).
•Switch the ignition on. For vehicles witha keyless ignition, see the followinginstructions.
Vehicles with an Ignition Key
Note:Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
1. Fully depress the brake pedal.
2. Turn the key to the start position tostart the engine.
Note:The engine may continue crankingfor up to 15 seconds or until it starts.
Note:If you cannot start the engine on thefirst try, wait for a short period and try again.

Before using recovery hooks:
•Make sure all attaching points aresecure and capable of withstandingthe applied load.
•Never use chains, cables or tow strapswith metal hook ends.
•Only use recovery straps that have aminimum breaking strength two tothree times the gross vehicle weight ofthe stuck vehicle.
•Make sure the recovery strap is in goodcondition and free of visible cuts, tearsor damage.
•Use a damper device such as a tarp,heavy blanket or piece of carpetdraped over the recovery strap to helpabsorb the energy in the event thestrap breaks.
•Make sure the stuck vehicle is notloaded heavier than its gross vehicleweight rating specified on thecertification label.
•Always align the tow vehicle and stuckvehicle in a straight line (within 10degrees).
•Keep bystanders to the sides of thevehicle, at a distance of at least twicethe length of the recovery strap. Thishelps avoid injury from the hazard of arecovery hook or strap breaking, or avehicle lurching into their path.
TRANSPORTING THE VEHICLE
If you need to have your vehicle towed,contact a professional towing service or,if you are a member of a roadsideassistance program, your roadsideassistance service provider.
We recommend the use of a wheel lift anddollies or flatbed equipment to tow yourvehicle. Do not tow with a slingbelt. FordMotor Company has not approved aslingbelt towing procedure. Vehicledamage may occur if towed incorrectly, orby any other means.
Ford Motor Company produces a towingmanual for all authorized tow truckoperators. Have your tow truck operatorrefer to this manual for proper hook-upand towing procedures for your vehicle.

•Never wash or rinse any ignition coil,spark plug wire or spark plug well, orthe area in and around these locations.
•Cover the battery, power distributionbox, and air filter assembly to preventwater damage when cleaning theengine.
CLEANING THE WINDOWS AND
WIPER BLADES
Car wash chemicals and environmentalfallout can result in windshield and wiperblade contamination. Dirty windshield andwipers will result in poor windshield wiperoperation. Keep the windshield and wiperblades clean to maintain windshield wiperperformance.
To clean the windshield and wiper blades:
•Clean the windshield with anon-abrasive glass cleaner. Whencleaning the interior of the windshield,avoid getting any glass cleaner on theinstrument panel or door panels. Wipeany glass cleaner off these surfacesimmediately.
•For windshields contaminated withtree sap, chemicals, wax or bugs, cleanthe entire windshield using steel wool(no greater than 0000 grade) in acircular motion and rinse with water.
•Clean the wiper blades with isopropylrubbing alcohol or windshield washerconcentrate.
Note: Do not use razor blades or othersharp objects to clean or remove decalsfrom the inside of the heated rear window.The vehicle warranty does not coverdamage caused to the heated rear windowgrid lines.
CLEANING THE INTERIOR
WARNINGS
Do not use cleaning solvents, bleachor dye on the vehicle’s safety belts,as these actions may weaken thebelt webbing.
On vehicles equipped withseat-mounted airbags, do not usechemical solvents or strongdetergents. Such products couldcontaminate the side airbag system andaffect performance of the side airbag in acollision.
For fabric, carpets, cloth seats, safety beltsand seats equipped with side airbags:
•Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
•Remove light stains and soil withMotorcraft Professional StrengthCarpet & Upholstery Cleaner.
•If grease or tar is present on thematerial, spot-clean the area first withMotorcraft Spot and Stain Remover. InCanada, use Motorcraft Multi-PurposeCleaner.
•If a ring forms on the fabric after spotcleaning, clean the entire areaimmediately (but do not oversaturate)or the ring will set.
•Do not use household cleaningproducts or glass cleaners, which canstain and discolor the fabric and affectthe flame retardant abilities of the seatmaterials.

Vehicle Care

GENERAL INFORMATION
Use only approved wheel and tire sizes,using other sizes could damage yourvehicle. If you change the diameter of thetires from that fitted at the factory, thespeedometer may not display the correctspeed. Take your vehicle to an authorizedFord dealer to have the systemreprogrammed. If you intend to change thesize of the wheels from that fitted by themanufacturer, you can check the suitabilitywith an authorized dealer.
Additional information related to thefunctionality and maintenance of your tirescan be found later in this chapter. See TireCare (page 275).
The Ford recommended tire inflationpressures can be found on the Tire Label,which is located on the B-pillar or the edgeof the driver's door. This information canalso be found on the Safety ComplianceCertification Label (affixed to either thedoor hinge pillar, door-latch post, or thedoor edge that meets the door last post;next to the driver’s seating position).
Ford strongly recommends maintainingthese tire pressures at all times. Failure tofollow the tire pressure recommendationscan cause uneven treadwear patterns,reduced fuel economy, and adverselyaffect the way your vehicle handles.
Note:Check and set the tire pressure at theambient temperature in which you areintending to drive your vehicle and when thetires are cold.
Note:Check your tire pressures at leastonce per month.
Set the pressure for your spare tire to thehighest value given for your vehicle and tiresize combination (if equipped).
Notice to utility vehicle and truckowners
WARNINGS
Utility vehicles have a significantlyhigher rollover rate than other typesof vehicles. To reduce the risk ofserious injury or death from a rollover orother crash you must avoid sharp turns andabrupt maneuvers, drive at safe speeds forthe conditions, keep tires inflated to Fordrecommended pressures, never overloador improperly load your vehicle, and makesure every passenger is properly restrained.
In a rollover crash, an unbeltedperson is significantly more likely todie than a person wearing a seat belt.All occupants must wear seat belts andchildren/infants must use appropriaterestraints to minimize the risk of injury orejection.
Do not become overconfident in theability of four-wheel drive vehicles.Although a four-wheel drive vehiclemay accelerate better than a two-wheeldrive vehicle in low traction situations, itwon't stop any faster than two-wheel drivevehicles. Always drive at a safe speed.
