Audi recommends only performing certain Info
tainment system functions, such as entering a
destination, when the vehicle is stationary. Al
ways be prepared to stop operating the Infotain
ment system in the interest of your safety a nd
the safety o f other road users.

Introduction
The Multi Media Interface, or MMI for short,
combines various
systems for communication,
navigation " and entertainment in your Audi. You
can operate the MMI using the MMI control pan
el, the multifunction steering wheel or the voice
recognition
system".

Multi Media Interface
Wh en th e system is switched on, the last menu
that was selected is displayed and the last audio
source that was selected begins play ing.
-Swit ch ing off manually : press and hold the
On/Off knob@until the MMI switches off. If
the MMI has been switched off manually, it
does not switch on again automatically the
next time the ignition is switched on.

- Audio
input assistance: to have the possible
commands read, turn t h e voice recognition sys
tem on a nd say Help .

For the system to understand you:
Speak clearly and distinc tly at a normal vol ume.
Speak louder when driving faster.
E
mphasiz e the words in the commands evenly
and do not leave long pauses.
Do not speak a command when the voice recogni ·
tion system is making an announcement.
Close the doors, the windows and the sunroof* to
reduce background noise. Make sure that passen
gers are not speaking when you are giving a voice
command.
Only use the system from the driver's seat be
cause the hands free microphone is directed to·
ward that seat.
Additional settings
Additional settings such as individual speech
tra ining to your voice, Command display or v ol
ume of spoken prompts can be adjusted under
IMENUI >Settings> left control button> MMI
settings > Speech dialog system .

driver, you have complete responsibility for
safety in traffic. O nly use the functions in
such a way th
at yo u always maintain com
plete control over your vehicle in all traffic
situations.

Do not use the voice recognition system in
emergencies beca use your voice may change
in stressful situations. It may take longer to
dial the number or the system may not be
able to dia l it at all. Dial th e emergency
number manually.
@Tips
- The dia log pauses when ther e is an incom
ing phone call and will continue if you ig
nore the call. The dialog ends if you answer
the call.
- Navigation messages and traffic announce·
ments* are not made during a dialog.

Telephone
Introduction
Applies to: vehicles with telephone
To make calls through the MMI system, you must
connect your phone to the MMI with Bluetooth.
After connecting
your phone to the MM with
Bluetooth, you can use the telephone functions
conveniently
through the MMI.
Handsfree
After you have connected your cell phone to the
MMI via Bluetooth, you can use the handsfree
system and operate telephone functions through
your MMI. Phone calls are transmitted thro ug h
the antenna on your cell phone.
A WARNING
-Medical experts warn that cell phones can
interfere with the function of pacemakers.
Always maintain a minimum distance of 20
centimeters between the cell phone anten
na and the pacemaker.
-
Do not carry the cell phone in a pocket di
rectly over the pacemaker when the phone
is switched on.
- Switch
the cell phone off immediately if
you
suspect it may be interfering with the
pacemaker.
-Do not use the voice recognition system
¢page 104 in emergencies because your
voice may change in stressful situations. It
may take longer to dial the number or the
system may not be able to dial it at all. Dial
the emergency number manually.
- Switch
your cell phone off in areas where
there is a risk of an exp losion. These loca
tions are not always clearly marked. This
may include gas stations, fuel and chemical
storage facilities or transport vehicles, or lo
cations where fuel vapors (such as propane
or gasoline vapor in vehicles or buildings),
chemicals
or large quantities of dust parti
cles (such as flour, sawdust or metal) may
be present in the air. This also applies to all
other locations where you would normally
turn your vehicle engine off.

The Bluetooth connection range is limited to
inside the vehicle. It can also be affected by
local conditions
and interference with other
devices.

Bluetooth connections and functions are
supported on your cell phone.

Loose objects can be thrown around the vehi

inter ior during sudden driving or braki ng
maneuvers. T his can cause serious inj uries
and loss of control of the vehicle. Always keep
the center armrest closed while driving.
- The Audi
phone box is not availab le in all
countries. Contact your authorized A udi
dealer for additional information.
-If the cell phone is placed in a bag or protec
tive sleeve inside the Audi phone box, this
can interfere with the connection to the ex
ternal antenna.

Strong transmission quality cannot be guar
anteed if more than one cel l phone is insert
ed.
- Audi recommends using original Audi acces
sories. Audi
has established their reliability,
safety and suitability.

You can purchase a USB adapter from an au
thorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility,
or at specialty stores.
-To prevent malfunctions, make sure the cell
phone is positioned correctly in the Audi
phone box .
- The Audi
phone box is only availab le in the
Canadian market.

call and only end the call when they instruct

to do so.
Tips
Emergency numbers are not the same every
where. Find out which emergency number is
used in your current location.
Directory

After connecting the cell phone, the contacts in
it are automatically imported into the MM!.

Contacts are displayed in alphabetical order and

be sorted by first or last name Q page 119.
The directory can be opened through the Tele

menu as well as through the Navigat ion*
menu.

-Check for a possible request to synchronize
on
your cell phone. Requests to synchronize
the directory must be confirmed so that
your cell phone contacts can be loaded into
the MMI.
-The contact display in the MMI depends on
the cell phone used. For more information
on the supported cell phones, visit

audiusa.com/bluetooth or your au
thorized Audi dealer.
-The directory from the cell phone with the
active connection will always be displayed.
- The
contacts from the cell phone may not
be transferred in alphabetical order. If there
are too many entries, contacts with differ
ent first letters may be missing in the MMI.
-The public contacts in the local MMI memo
ry are always visible and can be accessed by
other users.
Free text search for a contact

.. To limit the search, enter the initials of the con
tact being searched with each initial separated
by a space. Enter additional letters if necessary.

W ith Audi connect services, on line information is
transmitted and integrated directly in the vehi
cle.
A
mobile end device can be used to access the In
ternet through a Wi-Fi hotspot, either when the
vehicle is stationary or from the rear seat when
the vehicle is in motion .
.& WARNING
-To reduce the risk of an accident, only use
Audi connect services when road and traffic
conditions
permit. Always read and follow
the notes in ¢page 95, Traffic safety infor
mation.
-To reduce the risk of an accident, use the
Audi connect services with a Wi-Fi hotspot
only in the rear seat when the veh icle is in
motion or only when the vehicle is station
ary.

Audi connect is designed for use only with the
provided SIM card. Audi AG is not liable for
the consequences of using other SIM cards.

Wi-Fi Hotspot
Applies to: vehicles with Wi-Fi hotspot
You con use the MMI as a Wi-Fi hotspot to con
nect up to eight Wi-Fi devices to the Internet.
While driving, restricted use
of non-secured,
light, small wireless devices is only possible from
the rear of the vehicle.
Requirement: the ignition must be switched on.
.,. Select: I MENU I button >Telephone > right con
trol button > Wi-Fi settings.
The
following settings can be modified in the Wi·
Fi settings menu:
Wi-Fi mode
The MMI Wi-Fi hotspot is deactivated at the fac
tory. Switch the Wi-Fi hotspot to Hotspot before
establishing a connection between your vehicle
and your Wi
-Fi device.
-
Hotspot: the MMI Wi-Fi hotspot is active and
visible
to other devices. A connection can be es
tablished with new wireless devices.
-
Hotspot and client: the MMI Wi-Fi hotspot is
active. An internet connection to a personal Wi
Fi hotspot (such as a smartphone) can be estab
lished. Using Network searc h c:? page 126, you
can search for your personal hotspot and con
nect to the MMI.
-
Off: the MMI Wi-Fi hotspot is deactivated. An
Internet connection is not possible.
Hotspot settings
The Wi-Fi connection between your vehicle and
your Wi-
Fi device (laptop, cell phone) is e ncr ypt
ed. To establish a connection, you must enter the
following values when setting up your wireless
device.
You can change them if necessary.
- Access
point (SSID): name of the Wi-Fi net
work.
-
Passwo rd: a random password was set at the
factory for the MMI. The password can be
changed. The WPA2 encryption method
re
quires a password to be at least 8 characters
long. Select a secure password.
- Visible
to others : your Wi-Fi network visibility
can be switched on or off.

A list of available Wi-Fi networks in your area is
displayed.
A WARNING
~ --As the driver, do not allow usage of the Wi-
Fi hotspot to distract you from driving, as
this could increase the risk of an accident.
-
It is only safe to use laptops and similar mo
bile devices when the vehicle is stationary
because, like
all loose objects, they could be
thrown around the inside of the vehicle in a
crash and cause serious injuries. Store these
t ypes
of devices securely while driving.
-
Do not use any wireless devices on the front
seats within range of the airbags while driv
ing. Also note the warnings in the "Airbag
System" chapter under "Important Informa
tion on the Front Airbag System"

You are responsible for all precautions taken
for data protection, anti-virus protection and
protection against loss
of data on mobile de
vices that are used to access the Internet
through the Wi-Fi hotspot.

-A separate, paid mobile subscription may be

obtain more information from your cell
phone servi
ce provider.
- Being able
to receive the data packet from
th e internet via the Wi-Fi hotspot, may re
sult in add itiona l costs, especially when op
erating in foreign countries, depending on
your cellular phone plan: the use
of a flat
rate data plan is highly recommended! You
can obtain more information from your cell
phone service provider.

To use Audi connect services, a data connection
must be configured.
~Select: I MENU I button> right control button>
Connection manager .
~ Select: right control button > Online settings>
Data connection settings.
Using the Data connection settings menu, you
can set when an Internet connection should be
made. The Internet connection disconnects auto
matical ly once
the requested Audi connect serv
i
ce no longer req uires any data packets.
The follow
ing options can be selected:
Connect
-
On request : a data connection is only establish
ed when confirmed.
-Without request : a data connection is auto
matically established to use Audi connect serv
ices.
- Never : a data connection is not established.
Audi connect services cannot be accessed.
When a data connection is established, the sym
bol for an active data connection and the signal
strength appear in the status line in the Infotain
ment system display@/@~ page 101,

An active data connection can be ended manually
by setting the Connection setup to Never .
Data roaming
Data roaming is switched off at the factory . To
use a data connection outside of the country, Da
ta roaming must be switched on(~). The setting
is stored for the current SIM card or the cell
phone that is currently connected.
Audi connect (MMI)
With this function, you can Allow or Deny the use

The connection is configured automatically based
on the SIM card being used. These values can be
changed. You can obtain more information from
yo ur cell
phone service provider.
-APN : the access point depend s on the cell
phone serv ice provider and is assigned auto
matically.
-User name : the user name for your on line pro
file
is assigned by the cell phone service provid
er.
-Password : the password for your on line profile
is assigned by the cell phone service provider.
Storing changed connection settings: press the
IBACKI button.
Reset configuration
An online profile is saved and configured auto
matically. The Connection settings that you
changed manually are reset to the default set
tings.

-As the driver, do not allow usage of the Wi
Fi hotspot to distract you from driving, as
