Audi side assist
-Never rely only on side assist when chang­
ing lanes.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make
sure that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side assist cannot detect a ll vehicles under
all conditions- danger of acc ident!
- Please note that side assist indicates there
are approaching vehicles, or vehicles in your blind spot, only after your vehicle has
reached a driving speed of at least 19 mph
(30 km/h).
- In certain situations, the system may not function or its funct ion may be limited. For
example:
- if veh icles are approaching or being left
behind very quickly. The display may not
turn on in time.
- in poor weather conditions such as heavy
rain, snow or heavy mist.
- on very w ide lan es, in tight curves or if
there is a rise in the road su rface. Vehicles
in the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they are outside of the sensor
range.
(D Note
The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. This can affect the system. Have
your authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Serv ice Facility check their function.
(D} Tips
- If the window glass in the driver 's door or
front passenger's door has been tinted, the
display in the exterior mirror may be misin­
terpreted.

Adjusting the display brightness

The display brightness can be adjusted in the In­
fotainment system .

The display brightness adjusts automatically to
the brightness of the surroundings, both in the
i nformation and in the warning stage . In very
dark or very bright surround ings, the display is
al ready set to the minimum or max imum level by
the automatic adjustment. In such cases, you
may notice no change when adjust ing the bright­
ness, or the change may only be noticeable once
the surroundings change.
Adjust the br ightness to a level where the display
i n the information stage will not disrupt your
view forward. If you change the brightness, the
display in the exterior mirror will briefly show the
brightness level in the information stage. The
brightness of the warning stage is linked to the
brightness in the information stage and is adjust­
ed along with the information stage adjustment . .,,.

Dynamic -gives the driver a sporty driving feel
and is suited to a sporty driving style .

Pay attention to traffic when operating the
drive se lect to reduce the risk of an accident.

Coasting downhill w ith the transm ission in N
and the engine not running will result in dam­
age to the automatic transmission and possi­
bly the catalytic converter.
@ Tips
- If you accidentally select N while driving,
take your foot off the accelerator pedal and
wait for the engine to slow down to idle be­
fore selecting Dor S.
- If there is a power failure, the selector lever
will not move out of the P position. The
emergency release can be used if this hap­
pens

Selector lever lock
The selector lever lock prevents you from select­
ing o gear occidentally, causing the vehicle to
roll.

• Move the selector lever into the desired posi­
tion. The engaged selecto r lever position is

Automatic transmission
Automatic shift lock (ASL)
The selec tor lever is locked in the P and N posi­
tions when the ignit ion is switched on. The re­
move it from these positions , the driver m ust
press the brake pedal and press the lock button
at the same time. The following message ap­
pears in the instrument cluster display when the
selector lever is in the P or N position to remind
the driver:
Press brake to change gear while stationary.
The automatic shift lock only funct ions when the
vehicle is stat ionary o r at speeds be low 1 mph
(2 km/h). At higher speeds, the lock is automati­
cally deactivated in the N position.
The selector lever is not locked when shifting
quick ly through N, for example from R to D. This
makes it possible to free the vehicle when it is
stuck by "rocking" it. The selector lever lock en ­
gages if the lever stays in the N position longer
than 2 seco nds when the brake pedal is not
pressed.
Lock button
The lock button in the selector lever handle pre­
vents you from moving the selector lever unin­
tentionally while in some selector lever positions.
The positions that require the lock button to be
pressed are marked in color in the illustration
¢fig . 91.
Driving tips
Starting the engine
• The se lector lever must be in the P or the N po­
sit ion.
Starting from a stop
• Press and hold the brake pedal.
• Press the button on the selector lever and se­
lect the D , Sor R selector lever posit ion
¢page 82.
• Wait a moment until the transmission shifts.
You will notice a slight movement when the
gear engages.
• Release the brake pedal and press the accelera-
tor pedal

rarily to the manua l shift program in o rde r to ad­
just the gea rs to the d riving conditions by hand

On inclines, act ivate the park ing brake first and
then move the se lector lever to the P pos it ion
c>page 72. This prevents the lo cking mechanism
from being loaded too heav ily and w ill make i t
easier to move the se lec tor lever out of the P po­
sition.

A WARNING
- The vehicle can also ro ll when the eng ine is
stopped.
- Unintended vehicle movement can cause se­
rious injury.
- Never leave your veh icle with the engine
running while in gear. If you must leave
your veh icle w hen the engine is r unning, ac­
tivate t he pa rking brake a nd move the selec­
tor lever to P .
- Power is still transmitted to the wheels
when the engine is running at idle . To p re­
vent the vehicle from "creeping", yo u m ust
keep your foo t on t he b rake when the en­
g in e is ru nning and the selector lever is in D/
Sor R or "tiptronic" mode is se lected .
- Do not press the a cce le ra to r peda l when
changing the se lec to r l ever posi tion while
the vehicle is s ta tionary and the engine is
r u nning .
- Never sh ift into R or P whi le driving.
- Before d riving down a s teep sl ope, redu ce
your spee d and sh ift into a lower gea r w ith
"t i ptronic" .
- Do not ride the brakes or press the bra ke
pedal too of ten o r too long when dr iv ing
down a hi ll. Constant braking ca uses the
brakes to ove rheat and substantially re­
duces brak ing performance, increases b rak­
ing d istance or causes comp lete failure of
the brake system.
- To prevent the veh icle from rol ling back
when stopp ing on inclines, always hold it in
place with the brake peda l or park ing brake .
- Never hold the vehicle on an incline with a
slipping clutch. The clutch opens automati­
cally when it becomes too hot from the

gine speed may set the vehicle in motion,
even with the parking brake applied.
(D Note
- When stopping on an incline, do not try to
hold the vehicle in place by pressing the ac­
celerator pedal whi le a driv ing gear is se ­
lected. This can cause the automatic trans­
mission to overheat and can damage it . Set
the parking brake or press the brake pedal
to prevent the vehicle from ro lling.
- Allow ing the vehicle to roll when the eng ine
i s stopped and the selector lever is in
N po­
s ition w ill damage the automatic transm is­
s ion because i t is not lubricated under those
ci rc u ms tances.
- The transmiss ion can over heat and be dam­
aged under certain driving and traffic co ndi­
t ions s uch as frequent starts, creeping for a
l ong time, or stop -and -go traffic. When the
• indicator light turns on, stop the vehicle
at the next opportunity and let the trans­
mission cool down

@ Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
leased automatically only when the driver 's
safety belt is fastened and the dr iver 's door is
locked.
Hill descent control
Hill descent control assists the driver when dr iv­
ing down hills.
Hill descent contro l is activated wh en th e se lec­
tor lever is in the D or S position and you p ress
the b rake pedal. The transm ission automat ically
select s a gear that i s suitable for the incline . H ill
descent control tries to maintain the speed ach ­
ieved at the time of braking, within phys ical and
techn ical limitations . If may st ill be necessary to
adj ust the speed with the b rake pedal.
Hill descent control switches off once the hill lev ­
e ls out or you press the accelerator pedal.
Aut oma tic tr ansm iss ion
A WARNING
-Hill descent control cannot overcome physical
limitat io ns, so it may not be able to ma intain
a constant speed under all conditions . Always
be ready to app ly the brakes .
Shifting manually (tiptronic mode)
The tiptronic allow the driver to shi~ the gears
manually.

Shifting with the selector lever
You can shift into tip tronic mode wh ile stat iona ry
and wh ile driving.
"' To shift into tiptronic mode, push the selecto r
lever from the D/S setting to the right. As soon
as the transmission is switched , the M trans ­
m iss ion se tting will appear in the ins trument
cluste r display.

Shifting with the shift paddle s*
You can operate the shift padd les in the D, Sor M
selector lever posit ions.
• To sh ift up one gear, tap the
0 shift paddle

• To shift down one gea r, tap the O sh ift paddle.
• If you do not press a shift button within a short
time whi le in the D/S position, the transmission
will return to automatic mode. To keep shifting
using the shift buttons, move the selector lever
to the right out of the D/S position.
The transmission automatically shifts up or down
before critical engine speed is reached.
The transm ission only a llows manual shift ing
when the engine speed is within the permitted
range.
@ Tips
- When you shift into the next lower gear, the
transmission wi ll downshift only when there
is no possibility of over-revving the engine.
- When the kick-down comes on, the trans ­
mission will shift down to a lower gear, de­
pending on vehicle and engine speeds.
- Tiptronic is inoperative when the transmis­
sion is in the fai l-safe mode .
Kick-down
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
When you press the accelerator peda l down be­
yond the resistance point (called kick-down), the
automatic transmission downshifts into a lower
gear, depending on vehicle speed and engine RPM. It shifts up into the next higher gear once
the maximum specified engine RPM is reached.
A WARNING
Please note that the wheels could spin on
slick or slippery roads when kick-down is ac­
tive.
Transmission malfunction
• Transmission overheating! Please stop the
vehicle!

The transmission is too hot and can become dam­
aged. Stop and let the transmission coo l with the
engine running (at idle) in the P se lector lever po­
sition. Then the indicator light and the message
turn off, drive to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to have
the malfunct ion corrected.
If the indicator light
and the driver message do not turn off, do not
continue driving. See an authorized Audi dea ler
or authorized Audi Service Facility fo r assistance.
Selector lever emergency release
In order to tow a vehicle due to power failure,
the selector lever emergency release must be ac­
tivated .

The emergency release mechanism is located in
the right area under the selector lever shift gate.
Using the emergency release can be complicated .
We recommend contacting an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility for as­
s istance, if necessary.
A maintenance tool from the vehicle tool kit
must be used to release

Preparations
"'To prevent your vehicle from ro lling un inten­
tiona lly, set the parking brake<®) or press the
brake pedal¢_& .
"' Insert the flat side of the maintenance tool
sideways in the s lot near the shift cover and pry
off the shift cover¢

fold the cover up over the sh ifter knob.

If you re lease the parking lock using the
emergen cy release , secure your vehi cle with
the parking brake or the brake pedal if the
parking brake is not work ing. The vehicle can
roll away if it is not secured and cause a crash.

Parking systems
General information
Applies to vehicles: with rear parking system/parking system
p lus/rear v iew camera
Depending on your vehicle 's equipment , various
parking aids will help you when parking and ma­
neuvering.
The
rear park ing system is an audible parking aid
that warns you of obstacles
behind the vehicle
~ page 88.
The parking system plus assists you when park ­
ing by audibly and visually indicating objects de­
tected
in front of and behind the vehicle
~ page 89.
The rear view camera shows the area behind the
vehicle in the Infotainment display . This display
assists you when you are cross or parallel parking
~ page 90. In addition, you are assisted by the
functions from the park ing system plus
~ page 89.
& WARNING
-Always look for traffic and check the area
around your vehicle by looking at it directly
as well. The parking system cannot replace
the driver's attention. The driver is always
responsible for safety during parking and
for all other maneuvers.
- Please note that some surfaces , such as
clothing, are not detected by the system .
- Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
which people and objects cannot be detect­
ed . Be especially cautious of children and
animals.
- The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the radiator gr ille, bumper,
wheel housing and the underbody . The park­
ing systems may become impa ired as a re­
sult . Have your authorized Audi dealer or
qualified workshop check their function.
- Make sure the sensors are not covered by
stickers, deposits o r any other obstructions
as
it may impair the sensor function . For in­
formation on cleaning, refer to
~ page 168.

-Some objects are not detected by the sys­
tem under certain circumstances:
-Objects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, vertical poles or fences
- Objects above the sensors such as wall ex ­
tensions
- Objects with specific surfaces or struc ­
tures such as chain link fences or powder
snow.
- If you continue driving closer to a low-lying
object, it may disappear from the sensor
range. Note that you will no longer be
warned about this obstacle.
(D Tips
-The system may provide a warning even
though there are no obstacles in the cover­
age area in some situations, such as:
- certain road surfaces or for long grass.
- external ultrasonic sources e.g. from cleaning vehicles .
- heavy rain, snow or thick vehicle exhaust .
- We recommend that you practice parking in
a traffic-free location or parking lot to be­
come familiar with the system . When doing
this, there should be good light and weath­
er conditions.
- You can change the volume and pitch of the
signals as well as the display

- Please refer to the instructions for towing a
trailer ~
page 94 .
-What appears in the infotainment display is
somewhat time-delayed.
Rear parking system
Description
Applies to veh icles : with rear parking system
The rear parking syst em is an audible parking
aid .
There is a sensor in the rear bumpe r cover. If
these detect an obstacle, audible signals warn
you.
Make sure the sensors are not covered by stick -
